Not a 5 star restaurant but excellent food at the airport. My busy schedule and sequence of events did not allow me to grab a crab cake. Lucky for me I arrived early to airport and there was a 45 min delay. So google maps sent me to the DE connector instead if the sister restaurant in Terminal C
I was in A so had to leave security area and walk to D&E terminal. It was a short enough walk but through security 3 times
So why do I tell you all this? The crab cake was worth it. When I got there the bar tender server was slammed but he methodically and efficiently just moved through it all. He remained attentive and polite all the while.
He was bussing tables, making Drinks and taking food orders. Yet he got a glass of water to me right away with in 2 mins of me taking a seat. I ordered a crab cake and 3 salts oysters on half shell. Before shucking my oysters he refilled my water
He asked how I wanted my crab cake fried or broiled. I kind of shrugged so he offered that fried was faster but broiled was traditional. So I took traditional.
The open face sandwich showed up about the time I finished my oysters so it really was not much longer to get it traditional broiled.
He asked if I needed anything and I said I needed something for the salad portion because I intended to eat the crab cake alone. He brought out a aioli which was perfect for the lettuce and tomato.
I used malted vinegar for the fries.
The crab cake was light golden brown and had huge pieces of lump crab meat. Had very little of the binder in it. The crab was remarkably sweet to my surprise.
Crab is not my first choice in seafood but if I had eaten something like this earlier it could be. I have had various stuffed crabs, crab legs and fish dished with crab in the sauce. I have eaten crab cakes in Charleston SC before as well.
I looked at the ticket and it said Joseph was my server. He found time to make some conversation and assured that I had every thing I needed when my food arrived. Upon leaving I asked him if there was a easy way back to C terminal. He kind of chuckled and said they has a sister restaurant in A.
Then he said if your flight gets delayed again you get hungry go there and tell then Joey sent you. He offered more water and declined.
Frankly outside of having to go through TSA separately to get to this restaurant. I doubt that from C that A is any closer. TSA got me in and out quickly in both terminals so no big deal.
Might have been different if I had less than an hour but with 2 hours there is plenty of time
Oysters were clean and only $3 each and no minimums
The crab cake basket was $26. Based on menus I have seen that was a fair price and actually exceptional given I was at Airport. Yes I looked a lot of place with the intention to get one but just never did for one...
Read morePlease hire more people! The 2 ladies and 1 cook were SLAMMED!!!!!! And when i mean SLAMMED...i mean SLAMMED!!!! Packed bar, packed tables and a line. Ran out of wine glasses, clearing tables carrying 20 plates at a time, restocking silver ware, serving food, prepping sides on ready orders, taking orders, mixing drinks, refilling drinks... And more. Waited about hour for breakfast taco... and...
IT. WAS. WORTH. THE. WAIT!!!!!!
When i saw dishes coming out with tater tot's that actually just LOOKED crisp, bright and delicious... perfectly cooked... i got a little excited inside. I do think my order slipped through the cracks as the guy a few people behind me got his fish and chips, ate, talked and departed way before i was even kindly asked what i ordered again. But... they were working so hard that i didn't want to add to their stride. Even when a girl acting stupid on her phone dropped her glass bc she wasn't paying attention, the lady didn't break stride, but smoothly got the pan, cleaned up the glass and kept on going in high gear... turbo mode. And they were super kind to everyone!!! Then i took my first bite... MmmMmm Good, bebe! MmmMmm Good! Those perfectly crisp tots, the warm flavorful egg with green onions.... drool!! With the cheddar cheesiness to make it smooth... AND THE SALSA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Order EXTRA SALSA!!!! This makes the whole dish POP!!!!!! Extraordinary flavor! if you are ever at bwi terminal D, immediately after your security check, stop here to eat and relax in the rocking chairs by the window! Just make sure you have time if it's busy! Unless they hire more good people! They need to give those ladies and that cook a raise!!! Thank you Here's an update and another photo... there were only about 5 other parties being served, the cook seemed to be doing something bc the people before me waited a while then all of the sudden food started getting cranked out! I got an egg and cheese with avocado (i think) and tots... once again, AMAZING!! With any wait, it really is that good... and with a touch of sriracha......
Read moreFirst off - I don’t expect much when it comes to airport food if I’m being honest. Second - this place rocks. After being turned away by several eateries prior to 9pm as they were closing soon I was racing through the airport looking for another place to have a beverage and get some food due to my flight being delayed until close to midnight. Enter staff member who clearly sees me in distress and hungry after traveling all day say hey the kitchen is going to close soon come order! She gave me a stellar recommendation and placed an order for me just in time. Had she not called me over despite the full bar counter I think I would have missed the opportunity to eat ‘real’ food that evening. Quickly a spot became available so o was able to sit down before my food arrived. Thank you mysterious person! Although a bit pricey the crab roll was dynamite and worth every penny. Wine was also very good and the bartender was open later than the kitchen - another victory!
P.s. the tots were...
