I ordered the red fish and rice and the rice was so hard and burnt as if they scraped it from the bottom of the pot and gave it to me. Also they put that order on the bottom and hid the rice with the red fish covered in whatever nasty sauce that was. I knew it was done on purpose because I had a side order of red beans and rice that was well cooked. The bang bang shrimp was nasty and the crab claws had no season. While sitting I felt so uncomfortable because they acted as if a black man like me shouldn't be there ordering food or something. While sitting waiting for my food I don't know if the waitress said something to someone but a guy came and literally sat 1 chair across from me, pretending to do some kind of paperwork but observing me as if I was doing some kind of scamming. I felt so uncomfortable with that and the service and will never visit this place again. As a culinary alumni, now a truck driver for 10 years from the United States Virgin Islands. I felt like I wasted my money and I wanted to go back and return the food but I said to myself. "You know what I have to deliver my load and just the confusion wasn't worth it" so I took the loss of almost $100 but will never go back. The service you give to everyone should be equal and none should ever be judged, treat everyone the same because you never know who's walking into your establishment. Angels are in disguise the Bible tells you so. God won't be happy. I know whoever reads this from this restaurant knows exactly who wrote this review because you all know what you did. Honestly you all don't even deserve a half star but I have to give a star so I had to put 1 star. MY ADVICE DON'T EVEN WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE. Oh and before I forget to mention the guy who was doing the paperwork sitting across from me was a black man who might have been the owner or manager. You remember me I know you do. You all are the worst, please don't treat every black man that walks in there looking like me the same way. That's my...
Read moreAbout 2 weeks or so ago I found myself in quite the conundrum. I'm a man of very particular tastes, you see. Burgundy wines, as "red" simply won't do, sort of thing. So when I found myself craving some local shrimp, as being a native Gulf Coast Floridian has me wont to do, I thought to myself, "Surely there must be a better receptacle for such wondrous food. Perhaps deeper than a plate, but not so deep as a bucket."
Lo and behold, my utter bewilderment when I discovered whilst deep in thought on my journey down Davis Highway, none other than Shrimp Basket! Utterly Brilliant! Naturally, as a Pensacola resident, I immediately swerved across 3 lanes of rush hour traffic without so much as a turn signal to enter this mystical place and discover what delicacies awaited me within!
I took a seat at the bar, and was met by Julianne (lovely lady, very seasoned customer service voice and it shows). "Good evening!" I say to her. "A menu, and one locally-appropriated frozen dessert cocktail, please!"
"One bushwacker coming right up!" she says to me.
I ended up allowing my utterly refined tastes to shine, and ordered the all-you-can-eat shrimp with a side of fries and an appetizer of fried pickles. A distinguished meal for a distinguished gentleman, of course. The shrimp were crunchy and tender, and the seasoning was well balanced, like a artisan-crafted sabre.
In the end, I had one more locally-appropriated frozen dessert cocktail, and found myself with significantly too much food. Had a lovely conversation with Julianne and some of the other staff who came to chat. Fine, distinguished people. Like myself, of course.
Great/10....
Read moreI was really expecting a great dining experience with fresh seafood, especially considering we're down by the beach. The smoked tuna dip tasted like it was out of a can, and then it came out with packs of saltine crackers instead of the chips we had to order extra(which were really good). The fried oysters we ordered didn't taste fresh either. They had a very strong taste to it and we couldn't eat them.
The blackened redfish topped with sauce was good, but it wasn't great. It didn't taste fresh. The popcorn shrimp and shrimp skewer we got were good as well, but again they didn't taste like they were fresh seafood items.
Lastly was our dessert. We got the chocolate lava meltdown. It was good, but didn't taste like it was freshly made. Tasted like it came out of the freezer and was microwaved. The server mentioned that y'all were looking to change it soon to just a chocolate cake. From the other items we tried, it sounded more like y'all were looking to change it to a cheaper option instead of a better option.
I don't want to sound like a bitter customer that is just never satisfied. I read lots of reviews and generally they write short snotty reviews that come off as someone who is never satisfied. The food was good, and the service was great. Our server was the ABSOLUTE BEST! She was super friendly and made sure we were totally satisfied with our experience. If we were to come back, I would most definitely want her to wait on us again. If you can, make sure she knows that her great attitude and professionalism was very much appreciated and that she made her customers...
