BYOBS…. Bring Your Own Bug Spray. (See pics) My family and I stayed one night on June 22nd. The location of this hotel is very convenient; easy to get on and off of the interstate and has a ton of food options very nearby. But wow, the bugs! I don’t know if this applies to all rooms, but room 204 should be reserved for Steve Irwin or other critter lovers. As soon as we walked in we saw a beetle crawling along inside the window sill (see bug pic 1). We looked him up and it said these live inside the seeds of palm trees, of which there was one brushing up against our exterior window, so we removed him and didn’t think much of it. Later that evening, we pulled back the sheets to sleep and found another bug (bug pic 2) crawling around on the sheets. Our phone identified this one as a “four-lined silverfish”; whatever that may be. So, we pulled all the blankets and pillows off and looked under the mattress for more. We found no others under the mattress, but before we could even throw the bedding back onto the bed a spider (bug pic 3) ran across the top of the bed. At this point my wife asked if we should call the front desk and ask to switch rooms. Our two young kids were already fast asleep in the other bed so we decided to not try to make the move. So we slept the night in bug land and likely involuntarily ate a few critters or had some spiders lay eggs in our ears while we slept. Needless to say, if you choose this Courtyard Marriott in Pensacola, bring some bug spray! (See bug pics)

The hotel location was great. The check in was great. I was there for 7 nights. My issues started with the AC. For some reason the unit would not turn on unless I put it extremely low. I was either very cold or very hot. When I asked the front desk they simply came into the room and moved the thermostat down until it turned on. Not really the solution. The second issue is they informed me a couple days into my stay that the water was going to be turned off for a few hours to test the water sprinkler system. My issue was it was off all day and I was working from the hotel room. You don’t realize how much you need running water when you’re in the same space all day. When I asked at 5:30 pm when it would be turned on the front desk said they weren’t sure. My third issue is a common one now. I was told no room service for 7 days and let them know if I needed anything. If you know someone is staying 7 nights and you’re not going to service the room why not put a few extra soaps. I ran out on day 3 and had to go to the front desk for soap. Hopefully once everything starts working again we can have daily room service. Thanks for the time and hope this review was helpful. Only a few tweaks needing to be done to make this a 5 star stay. I just wonder; do they really want to make this a 5 star stay? Hum…

I’ve stayed here many times over the years, and have always been satisfied. But the stars collided yesterday! A faulty wheel on the shower door caused it to fall forward and break into 10,000 pieces while I was in the middle of a shower. Terrifying! Fortunately, my husband was in the room and helped me navigate my way through all of the broken glass. Front desk personnel promptly moved us to another room. However, the AC unit in the new room had been dripping for some time. The carpet was soaked and the room smelled unmistakably of mold. Too tired to move again, we threw a couple of towels over the mess and called it a day. Many family memories of this place over the years, but we won’t be coming back.

UPDATE BELOW!

I was surprised to see this was the only 4 star hotel in Pensacola, and was expecting it must be real nice! We were happy, but just a few minor things that made this less than desirable.

We checked in at 3 on Valentine's Day with the intentions of lounging in the hottub for the evening until our dinner reservations. Unfortunately they had the hottub closed off for maintenance.

The room was nice, but little minor things that I wouldn't expect from a 4 star were still encountered. The shower curtain bar was bent downward, and installed upside down. So the little curtain stays weren't in the right position to hold the curtain closed. With the bent bar, it would constantly slide open, getting lots of water on the bathroom floor. The glass in the bathroom picture frame was cracked. And there was only one coffee to make in the morning, however they quickly grabbed an extra when asked.

Lastly, we aren't typically late sleepers by any means, but we planned to sleep in due to the special occasion. We were woken to knocking between 7:30 and 8 for housekeeping. Again, not such a big deal, but an unfortunate jump out of bed and scramble to check the clock and yell towards the door that we were still there, just seemed unnecessary... Could easily check with the front desk who has checked out that early.

MAY 2016 UPDATE: We got an email from the manager, who apologized for our last stay and generously offered us a nice discounted rate if we were to return anytime soon. Just from that, I would have pushed the star rating up to 4 or 5.

However, we made our way down to Pensacola for a little weekend vacation recently. During dinner Saturday night, we decided we would go ahead and call to see if they have vacancy. Initially we were going to stay at a friend's place, but thought being alone might be nice. They did, and I reserved a room over the phone. We stayed out a couple more hours for dinner, met up with some friends, and had a few drinks around town. By the time the night had ended, we found ourselves pulling our bags in the door, walking up to check in. Unfortunately, they had given our reservation away. And completely sold out...

I asked where the disconnect was, and what I did wrong to make sure this wouldn't occur again. The guy at the front desk informed me that the woman before hand made this mistake with multiple people that night. And that she incorrectly gave away multiple rooms to others.

Well, I was a little angered, but accepted my fate and recognize it wasn't this individuals fault. I went outside to the car and began calling hotels in the area for vacancy. EVERY place was booked up. We called every hotel and motel, for almost an hour. Finally found a room at the creepiest motel possible, where everything was broken, water ran mucky, all drains clogged, no AC, oddly expensive for the value, and got into bed between 2 and 3 am. Unplanned, but salvaged the night, and didn't have to sleep in the car.

We survived, so all is well. But really makes me wonder if I've just had two unlucky experiences with the same location, or if there is some continuous under par going on. I like to stay optimistic, and rarely write reviews, but that last weekend was exhausting and embarrassing. Maybe have some kind of backup plan if your main plan is...

This hotel is located in a great place and distance from the beach.Had some trouble checking in because one of my cards did not work because of too many swipes that set a security lock on it. I made it to the hotel around 3:30ish and did not get into my room until 6 or 7 SMH! I was told I needed money on a differ card. So I ran down to Walmart put that money on the card, came back and that card did not work. So I had to buy another card, pay to get the money off that card and then pay some more money to put the funds on another card. I thought CASH was universal. Not at this COURTYARD! Would have been cool if they said that before hand. Next, once in the room I was meet with more disappointment. The room was not clean at all.sofa looked like it was just slept on. The sheets in the closet for the sofa bed was covered in hair and a red substance, and the outlet in the counter area did not work. I had to take the coffee pot in the room and plug it up to make a cup of coffee.walked down to the pool and was discouraged by the white foam I saw floating in it all day. When I asked an employee about the pool, she gave me the truth, which I respected the most.Thank you! The staff was probly the best thing in the whole hotel. Everyone at the front desk were nice. Including the new hire that was being trained, but I guess that's there job. Right! Called cooperate once I made it home,to explain the discomfort. They put in the report and told me I should be contacted within the next three days.if the hotel does not respond, call cooperate back.....lmao...the hotel then emailed me a survey. Im guessing this was there form of contact. I took the survey, basical explains the same stuff I'm explaining here and still nothing. After the survey....nothing. No call back ,no sorry for you inconvenience, no...
