I don't often write reviews, but this review is needed. I live in St Augustine, and eat in town often. My wife and I came on a Friday night for date night with high expectations and left very disappointed and with an empty wallet.
Staff: 10/10 very friendly. Environment: 10/10 it's a cool space. Food: 2/10 Drinks: 0/10 Wait times: 0/10
There were maybe 20 people in the restaurant when we were there, for context. We waited an hour for our drinks, which when arrived were watered down and tasteless. To date- one of the worst Old Fashioneds I've had. After our first round of cocktails we didn't opt for a 2nd- we ordered a bottle of wine instead.
Our Charcuterie board finally arrived shortly after our drinks, which also took an hour.
Our entrées arrived 20mins after the board- we ordered 2 chef select steaks. The steak came sliced and was SMOTHERED in the saltiest Salisbury steak type of gravy- it was like eating a hungry man TV dinner. We couldn't finish it. $68 per plate...
We cashed out pretty quickly after eating and ended up spending $300 for the board, a round of bad cocktails, a bottle of wine, and two disappointing steaks.
Lisa, our server- was the only obvious positive experience we had at the restaurant. She was a delight. Give her a raise- she was the glue that held it all together.
To the owner- hire more staff and train your bartenders. There is absolutely no reason to wait an hour for bad drinks and a basic Charcuterie board. Some chef training is needed too- lay off the salt.
It will take some convincing to go back to this restaurant; but I'll admit I'd like to give it another shot to see if my experience this past Friday was an anomaly. I hope to have a better experience next time- and if so, I'll gladly update this review. This place has a lot of potential and I hope to see it succeed, but the owner needs to invest in his staff and training them on how to deliver quality meals and drinks within reasonable time frames.
All-in-all, a disappointing experience at wayyy too high a price. I would not recommend...
Read moreThis was terrible. We ordered the Ultimate Bloody Mary & Maria Board and what arrived had nothing from the menu. When I pointed this out to our server she disappeared for a while then came back with a tiny portion of salami and three thick slices of bacon. Then a little while later two slices of mozzarella.
What did come out originally was terrible. Tomatoes were mushy. Pickled onions and string beans so vinegary they were close to inedible. Pickled eggs and beets were ok. But none of these were listed with what we ordered.
This is what should have arrived:
"Enhance your drink with savory olives, hearty salami slices, crisp celery stalks, tangy pickled okra, creamy fresh mozzarella balls, spicy banana peppers, zesty lime wedges, indulgent bacon skewers, peppery radish slices, fiery Datil peppers, briny capers, sweet baby corn, or flavorful chorizo."
We did have olives. No celery. No fresh mozzarella balls. No banana peppers. No lime wedges, zesty or otherwise. No bacon skewers. No radish. No datil peppers. No capers. No baby corn. No chorizo.
I don't know what we got but our server insisted she put the order in correctly. For a restaurant called bourbon and boards I expected the server and kitchen understood what is listed on the menu and someone should have noticed.
Even after we pointed out the error she just brought over a few items that were still not as described in the menu. No manager ever stopped over to speak with us.
For the price what we received was not worth it and downright awful. Maybe if we had received what we ordered we would have enjoyed it but we will never know as we will never go back.
Overpriced. Unexplainable disconnect between the menu and the kitchen. Terrible pickled veggies.
I recommend you avoid and save your money. There are many better...
Read moreWorst dining experience ever. A big HOT. MESS. I have never been so let down that I didn't tip, but a $2 tip was generous in this case. If I could give a zero star review I would. We waited forever at our table for someone to finally come to say hello and take our drink order. Then that person disappeared for awhile and another showed up to do it again, and we explained we had ordered drinks. They finally brought them. The food came out fairly quick after that, and wasn't bad. Our soup came out with no spoon, and after asking for one twice, it came. We had ordered another tapas dish that never came, which I finally cancelled when we waited about 30 minutes for it, and were ready to leave. After we paid, and were about to leave they brought it out! The waiter came to the table and told the kitchen to send it back. At this point it would have been a courtesy to comp it and send it home with us in a box, rather than throw it away. This may have garnished him a better tip, even though he seemed to hide from us most of the night. As far as the bourbon selection...a HUGE letdown. If you are really into bourbon, do not let the fact that bourbon is in the name fool you... go to Fish Camp instead (amazing selection). Nothing decent for top shelf. Most are just ok small name bourbons that are from states or areas that probably shouldn't be producing/ aging bourbon. I had the Brothers Bond cask strength because I hadn't before... and never will I again: from taste it was a 2-3 yr and tasted very hot with no depth... for $24/pour. I rarely leave reviews, but really wanted the public to not be taken...
