We finally made it to La Cocina last night, maybe the last of St Augustine’s high end restaurants that we had not enjoyed. We met friends there and had a great experience and will definitely be back! It is on the top floor of the San Sabastion winery and offers wonderful views of the river and downtown St Aug. While it’s location is a little off the regular St Aug beaten path, it does allow them to offer plenty of free parking. It is also certainly walkable from St George Street if you wish.

We sat inside as it was still quite warm outside though we walked around the expansive patio area which looks like a great time and included an outside bar. Note that they do not offer liquor at this point but they have applied for a license. They have beer and wine plus several wine cocktails.

Zach was our server and was both knowledgeable and attentive. I asked him what his favorite items on the menu and he did not just name the most expensive items on the menu. In fact, one of his choices was the cheapest entree.

For drinks, my lovely wife chose a wine mojito while I elected for a glass of Sauvignon Blanc from the winery downstairs. Both were solid. The food really stood out. I had the pear salad which was simply phenomenal….one of my favorite salads ever…. No exaggeration! My wife chose the ceviche and our friends chose the minorcan salad and charcuterie board….all were delightful.

For entrees, I had the gambas which included several large and succulent shrimp with a wonderful array of mixed vegetables and a not too sweet purée. My wife elected for a second starter as her entree which was the pork belly. Our friends enjoyed the lamb chops and the chicken.

Overall, I highly recommend La Cocina. It is a great combination of high end food with unmatched views of beautiful...

Another St Augustine win! Above the Saint Sebastian Winery is this lovely eatery. You can dine outside beneath an umbrella weather permitting, under the canopy by the bar, or inside in the air conditioned dining room.

You enter the building where you can partake in a free wine tasting tour, or make a hard left into the shop, another left to the elevator, and up to the restaurant. And many thanks to the lovely lady who was with her family but offered to take our picture -- we did not ask, she just kindly offered. So sweet. We arrived around opening time at 11:30 for an early lunch.

The sparking punch was delightfully refreshing. Fortunately we ordered a pitcher. I'd say you would break even at three glasses, and everything you pour after that is a nice cost savings over "by the glass". We probably got about six decent glasses in total. Warning, it goes down easy.

Food was awesome. We were starving and over-ordered as usual for us. Two wedge salads, one with a very lean and flavorful prosciutto. Excellent house made blue cheese.

Half a datil dog - messy but so worth it! Very good. Served with awesome house made chips.

Cheese platter with baguette - nice assortment, plenty of cheese, some dried fruit, olives, and more.

Baked brie in an amazing raspberry port sauce. I don't love brie, but would make an exception for this tasty treat.

House cut fries with an amazing beer cheese sauce, very cheesy with a nice little hint of spice at the end. Delicious.

The service was spectacular, so friendly and courteous. Only disappointment is they were out of the grilled cheese sandwich, which the brie was substituted for as a second choice.

We will definitely be back for an evening visit to sit, sip, and...

The food was delicious, no question about it. I had the duck, which was cooked perfectly. My SO had the salmon, which was delightful. The restaurant was quiet and softly lit. There is no dress code. Our evening was ruined because of our waiter, Victor. When it came time to pay, Victor asserted that all of our 3 debit cards were declined, and he denied that it could be an error on his end. In the end, he quietly admitted he must have made a mistake, proceeded to WRITE DOWN my card information (very sketchy), and then offered absolutely nothing to apologize after we sat for 20 minutes frantically calling our banks to make sure we had sufficient funds (which was only to humor Victor, as we knew very well that our cards/accounts were fine). I'm sorely disappointed by this and have experienced better customer service at Taco Bell. Maybe they just don't like young adults, but we recommend not chancing it here. Despite the quality food, there is very little effort to maintain the air of an apparently "high-end" establishment and the wait staff is shotty at best.
