Well my 23 year customer loyalty to Chick-N-Bones is at it's END!!
I've been frequenting this establishment since mid 1999 and never had an issue with the food, prices or friendly staff under the original husband and wife ownership team. However, since they retired a couple of years ago this new owner has raised prices 4 times while providing lower quality food and less of it. Things like changing the sweet tea (a Southern staple) from homemade real tea to a cheap, flavorless mass produced brown sugar water. Then yesterday I ordered the same meal as usual, and the price was ~$2 higher than last week and didnât match the video menu screen directly above the cashierâs head. She called over the neophyte owner who exclaimed âI donât know why itâs ringing up that price when I programmed it with this priceâ all still not matching the prices above his head on the menu board! I pointed that out to which he explained those prices were wrong. To which I said how can you raise prices without letting your customers know? I only received a dumbfounded look in reply. Add to that, I had a $1 off âloyalty rewardâ which they included but only for 93 cents, what happened to the other 7 cents?!! At this point I was done with their incompetent math skills and just said here take my money. Now about 10 minutes later I get my food and the portion size of the main entree and the included side order of fries were noticeably smaller not to mention overcooked. The chicken was very dry and the fries nearly burnt. At this point I was done, no amount of reasoning or logic can fix stupid and this guy has no concept of running a successful business that caters to the public food industry. The staff that has been there for 2 decades is gone, and regardless of the â$â google price category this place is not worth the trip!
UPDATE (May 11, 2022) I'm always amused by business owners "Peter Madson" that fail to do the right thing up front and only try to recover after the damage is done . While I do appreciate the last ditch effort, you cannot fix a mentality of poor business practices like when someone gives you 93 cents off a $1 off coupon! Unfortunately, we had an issue with our order, but I was very impressed by the restaurant fixing the issue so quickly (when DoorDash would usually just give me a refund and let me starve). As for the food, we ordered 2 No Names, a dark meat platter and a Cuban (which I was super reluctant to order from a non-cuban restaurant). The No Names, while ridiculously boring, were ridiculously tasty! I'm sure they'd be even better if you add toppings, but the as is version was actually very good! The chicken legs/thighs from the platter were awesome, as were the plantains, but the mac and cheese was a letdown. It was grainy and bizarre to us. Not gross but not good and not what we expected. However, the Cuban sandwich...OMG. Order it. I'm a born and raised Tampa native who has been eating Cuban sandwiches since I could walk. This was one of the best, if not THE best I've ever had. I recommended this place to my fiance and agreed this would be the place we would be having dinner from tonight but after walking in i immediately notice the awful foul smell that was coming from this place sort of smelled like sewer waste and I walked to the counter to place my order and the young lady who was standing there at the register just stared at me and gave me a very unwelcoming look a if I should have never came inside the restaurant she didn't speak welcome me or acknowledged me a customer so I decided to be the bigger person and speak first and she still didn't say anything so I spoke and she then nonchalantly spoke back being sarcastic so I just decided I wasn't going to spend my money there because she came off as she were a racist so I lift and went to spend my $60 at a nice chinese restaurant who were very friendly and welcoming to their customers.
