It's been quite a while since I've been to Frida's. I walked up to the counter and ordered a sandwich to go.
The bread was hard and dry, but the fillings were good. But, at the start of my order and when they asked again, I said it was to go. They asked what to drink and I said just a cup for water. After they already rang up my sandwich and I paid by credit card, I saw they had given me a dine-in cup. I reminded them it was to go, and they said they charge for cups. Okay. I've been one other place that charges for the to go cup - a very small amount of $0.10 -$0.15 for the cup. Here they charge $0.75 plus tax for a cup. I don't carry cash, and they'd already rang up my credit card payment. I asked "don't they have a minimum to put on the credit card?" They said no, so at least that was good. I paid another $0.75 plus tax on a separate credit card charge to get a to-go cup for water.
Also, if you want to substitute chips for the coconut bread it's an extra $1.25. I can't do coconut, and I really didn't need the chips, so I said I wouldn't need a side (when I got the meal, there was coconut bread in there anyway). I get that places charge you to substitute, but there didn't used to be an extra charge here.
I wonder when they started charging for these things? Obviously it's been too long since I've been here. On top of this, I don't recall if they ever allowed for refills but they don't now. And I read another reviewer's comment that they don't have the donuts they used to which were really good.
So all in all, with the extra charges and the dry bread - I just don't know if I'll be back. The experience wasn't horrible, but it was disappointing. Ending on a positive note, I'm glad the ingredients in the...
Read moreWe came here today for a late morning treat from Frida's. It had been a year or so since I had been so I was in the area with my husband this morning and we decided to visit. The restaurant was actually not too busy for a Saturday morning surprisingly. There was room to sit inside or on the covered patio with ceiling fans. We chose outside for the quite garden setting. We ordered a pastry each from the counter and a couple coffees. The double espresso was good, but the coffee was a bit light. Felt maybe they were stingy on the grounds. The lady who took my order stated they were unable to warm our order so we had cold apple crumble cake from the display counter and cold chocolate chip pecan cookie with our hot coffee. We did a couple glasses for ice water from fountain machine
We chose to sit outside and it was so nice and peaceful. The road noise of Ulmerton rd wasn't too bad and there were big yellow butterflies all over in the garden. The whole time we are and drank and talked; the butterflies kept flying all around. We did enjoy our visit and will return again for another visit. Next time I may bring my own coffee as theirs left me wanting. The bathroom was spacious and clean and there was a nice big hand wash station outside bathroom so you could just wash hands and not have to wait for the actual restroom. The array of pastries, fresh baked cookies, donuts, cakes and pies is very impressive! We had been before and have ordered cakes for bdays before also. Everything is marked the name and price which is very helpful with so many options. Very kid friend and the patio is pet friendly.
Thank you for a nice morning...
Read moreOk... the adjective. perfection never fit so seemlessly than when describing Frita's. In the 2 years we have lived in the area my wife and I have driven by over a thousand times and had never stopped in, until today. The facade is highly unassuming. The building sits bleakly on the side of the highway. Not very attractive or impressive, until you walk inside. Everything is fresh, organic and home made. The menu is just one great choice after the next. Dynamic attention is paid to the ingredients and this establishment boasts a full breakfast and lunch menu. No processed foods here. Did I mention the baking area? Three large displays feature a myriad of freshly baked bread and cakes. Over 4 dozens choices. You can peek into the back of the facility and get a glimpse of the large baking/prep area. We ate one of everything and didn't die. Can't wait to come back tomorrow and the next day. But, make sure you get there before noon or else you will have to contend with a line out the door. Hibiscus, pomegranate and green tea/mango water available as well. No sugar. Our server Angie was an absolute sweet heart. Process ate incredibly feasible. Your body, wallet and taste buds will be very happy you choose...
