Stopped in Saturday 5/17 for a pickup order. Having ordered here many times through the past couple of years, we have come to expect delicious food, great quality, and above average quantity. This was not the case this time around. Not sure what has transpired, either internally or externally, since the last time we ordered but it was disappointing and not up to the standard Greek City usually provides.
Echoing some of the sentiment in other reviews, we experienced the same clear indicators that something has gone amiss in the quality, care, and quantity department when it comes to serving food.
To start, ordering was easy. Adding extras to items was a breeze as was paying. Order was ready when it was supposed to be and transaction was smooth. The dissatisfaction began shortly thereafter.
My California Greek Salad was a sad second cousin twice removed from what it usually is. It was all iceberg lettuce, no mixed greens and more akin to a side salad than one able to rightfully fetch the price we paid for it. The toppings were nearly nonexistent, 2 walnuts, three tiny cubes of tomato, and about 6 pieces of cucumber do not a Cali Greek Salad make normally. The bruised mushy avocado on top only added insult to injury but was partially blocked by the 3-5 slivers of feta cheese offered which were more a whisper of what could have been than a compliment to the entree. Sad. Not even the thimble cup of potato salad we ordered could raise this abysmal offering to a place of satisfaction.
My husband’s feta burger was also a letdown. Where we have come to expect a moist and tasty burger loaded with toppings and dressing on the side, we were alarmed to land somewhere far to the right of the norm. No dressing. The patties were so overcooked and dry we initially thought someone had snuck in flat charcoal briquettes by accident. They could have tap-danced their way into the off off around the corner and past the bridge Broadway production of Anything Goes, because they certainly were umm crispy. Barely any toppings, and again with the ghost of feta past made it less than enjoyable and barely edible even coated in ketchup which he had to add.
My side of falafel was decent, but they tasted off as if someone snuck in an additional spice not usually put in. It had a hint of chili powder or something else but were still edible. The lack of cheese visited again only this time what was offered had been dumped on top of the dressing container included thus forfeiting it actually making it to the falafel since it pretty much melted and collected on the plastic. There is where that quality thing comes into question. Who is expediting orders and dumping cheese on containers all lackadaisical and not paying attention?
Lastly, the biggest insult of the night were the two Ultimate Veggie Bowls we ordered for our guests. We added chicken, it came but was about as seasoned as a paper plate. Salt and pepper is ok, but when we’ve come to expect that awesome marinated chicken taste usually offered it sets a dangerous precedent on future ordering considerations. Both bowls were lighter than usual. One was almost 90% onion, the second 90% green pepper. No lentils, no dressing, and that sad excuse of feta made its comeback in spades. One was missing the avocado, the second looked as if it had dated Ike Turner after Tina left.
Please do better. The community loves what we come to expect and crave. This recent spiraling isn’t a good look. Start ensuring the food leaving the kitchen is the same as it was even if you have to raise the prices due to the economy. What starts as one bad experience can quickly swell to an inferno of negative reviews, much like this one. Something has changed, the train has jumped a track or is missing a wheel. Find it, fix it, carry on making customers for life. It’s too easy to drop the ball and lose the game, do better.
Before this incident, I would have recommended this location to everyone as it had become a golden example of great food, great service, and outstanding quality/quantity. Now, I’ll be...
Read moreEmployees don't have the fryer on because they're 'going to close soon' (in 45 minutes) and we weren't notified until after payment and tip were processed. We were told we could sub something else for the feta fries. So I asked for some pita bread with hummus and the employee says 'ummm I can't give you that.' We can't exactly split a soup so what else can you substitute?... 'Umm, I guess I can give you a little bit of pita and hummus. Would you like the pita grilled or fried? Oh wait the fryer is off, nevermind'. We get some tea while we wait for our food. Food comes and we get a few bites in before needing to refill tea. But now its 40 minutes until closing time so they have now removed the tea dispensers. About 20 minutes to close and we are done eating but there's nowhere to dispose of trash because the bins have been removed already. There were still 2 people eating and another ordering when we left despite the "Open" sign being shut off at 8:40 pm. I understand wanting to leave right at closing time but that's not how the restaurant business works. Will not be returning to...
Read moreI love this place. I usually order the power bowl. My boyfriend ordered a gyro with the fried chips. Everything was fantastic except for the chips. When an employee came to our table to ask how everything was, which I appreciate, he told her about the chips being soggy, stale and cold. 😝 the explanation was that they were made earlier and sat. Yup... We did come to that conclusion on our own. But she then proceeded to tell us to dip it in the sauce to make them taste better. 😳🤷 Listen.. I am a dipper and a sopper, no amount of dipping would help those chips....NONE. Rule of restaurants... Do NOT serve it if it is not good or up to standard. If it does slip by, never make the customer keep the substandard food on their plate and not offer to replace it with fresh food. This patron would have gladly waited a few extra minutes for fresh. I would normally give 5 stars, but took away 1 star for the gross chips and another star for expecting us to dip the grossness instead of offering...
