Super Bowl Sunday and thankfully, it wasn't as crazy busy as my husband had anticipated. yet, we did wait almost a full 10 minutes after sitting down to be greeted. I ordered the Mango Tea which, per the menu, was simply Pinnacle Mango Vodka +Tea. And I had to clarify with the server no, I did not want flavored tea but the alcoholic tea featured on the drink menu. It came, once again after quite a bit of a wait, and it tasted like Monin Sweet Tea. Which would be that flavored syrup that comes in a variety of flavors. Working at Longhorn for 10 years where we had Raspberry, Blackberry, and Mango, I know the flavor well. I could also see that syrupy sheen in the drink; once again a sheen I am all too familiar with when flavoring teas. My hubs taste tested it too and it truly tasted sans alcohol to both of us. We informed our server who came back to say they "just ran out" of the Pinnacle Vodka so another could not be made (maybe that's why it was weak? there was barely any vodka to begin with as the liquor was out?) and perhaps I could try a Mango Rum. Sure, whatever. Y'all I promise I'm nothing to close to an alcoholic but that didn't taste too much like alcohol was involved in this version either. But at that point, I was over it. $7 later for an "eh" drink. We got their loaded cheese fries which I love, but for $9 one would expect there to be more content to it, aka more fries. The serving is a little skimpy for the price. Liquid cheese, bacon, and jalapenos, what's not to love!? There was a sprinkling of what appeared to be paprika or cayenne pepper; hadn't had that before. And I had their cheese fries 2 weeks ago and on our last visit 3 months ago. I used to have a love affair, 8 years ago, with their Hot Teriyaki Wings. I mean all the time I was craving and getting them. But that stopped. However, I'm happy to report I got them on Sunday and they were just as delicious as ever! I split the flavor of my 10 count of wings, and got Fire & Ice as well. And I was disappointed in this flavor. Described as a buffalo sauce meets horseradish, there was no horseradish flavor to be had. And barely any heat to the sauce. And barely any sauce on the wings! And of my 10 wings, I had 2 - only 2 wings and 8 drumsticks. I also had a nubbin'...a malformed tiny drumstick that makes you wonder if it even belonged to a bird. Boo. We got their Cheese Fries to go and were charged for Ranch...something which would have been free on a dine-in visit. As well as extra jalapenos. I've worked in the restaurant industry long enough to know that that can of pickled jalapenos is cheap, and enough people request NOT to have them on their items so that my request for extra (aka make sure there's more than 3 on there like last time) shouldn't have cost $1. It was our third time to Hurricane Wings, second to this particular location, in 2 years. Can't say it'll be a place...
Read moreMade a visit Saturday, 2-26-22 between 9pm & 10pm, Hurricane's is open till 12am. Had 3 other people with me, I made it to the bar, sat down & my friends were rudely stopped by the "hostess" & told they had to leave because of a 45-person party, that was already seated, & weren't taking any customers. Even though the bar had many empty seats & the restaurant was still open. She pointed to a tiny sign on the hostess stand that said reservations only, I said since when. Bar is first come first serve. We've been coming here for years & have never heard this. After asking for a manager twice, which she refused to do, I was accused by the so-called "hostess" of threatening her. I explained that the restaurant is open for another 2 or so hours & the bar is first come first serve with many available seats. It didn't matter, she was extremely rude to me as well. As she continues to argue with me, people are walking in & sitting down. We probably could've done the same but the attitude with this girl was horrendous & at that point we wanted to leave. This chic shouldn't be dealing with customers AT ALL. I didn't get her name, but she had black hair & piercings on her face.
Hurricanes also responded to my friend's review & said they would check the cameras. If they actually do this, they will see that paying customers walked through their door, during business hours, & were kicked out for no reason.
I called on Tuesday 3-1-22 and was told by Alan/Allen, the Manager, the restaurant was open till 12am that night. We should've been able to sit & he doesn't know why we were told that. If this girl in fact was told by a manager to not let anyone sit, that is problem #1. Problem #2, she should most definitely be fired or put in the kitchen, FAR AWAY FROM ANY & ALL CUSTOMERS.
I hope this gets remedied, as we've been coming here for years & would like to come back. As for now my recommendation is to go across the street to Brick Oven. They have great customer service, food, entertainment, & you won't get kicked out of an open restaurant that has plenty of places...
Read moreAfter leaving the movies yesterday, I was in the mood for a chicken wrap. What better place to try out than a restaurant that specializes in chicken and was even within walking distance?
Hurricane Grill and Wings had been on my radar for a long time, and now I finally had the perfect opportunity to check it out. Located in the heart of Fleming Island, similar to some other places I've reviewed over the past year, the business is in a great spot no matter whether you're looking for a spot to watch sports or grab a quick bite to eat while out running errands.
I walked in and was immediately greeted by the hostess who got me seated and arranged for the waitress to come by within 2 minutes. I chose to sit outside to enjoy the beautiful weather North Florida's having now that it's finally starting to cool off a little (comparatively). It was also a little quieter too with a good view of three separate football games... at least until a family with a baby chose to sit at the table right next to me. Nevertheless, I didn't let that bother me and continued to enjoy the games while also getting some online Christmas shopping done.
For the order itself, I chose a staple Blue Moon along with the Cancún Chicken Wrap served with natural-cut fries. This was exactly what I was looking for, and the meal hit the spot. The tortilla was grilled perfectly crispy on the sides, and the fries needed no additional sauces or seasonings to make them better. Perhaps the only thing that could have made the wrap better would have been a choice of sauce (aside from the sriracha ranch offered) or a side of sauce/salsa included in the meal.
Service remained great throughout the meal with my assigned waitress checking on me multiple times to ensure that my drinks were filled and that I did not need anything else. She was also very knowledgeable on the restaurants numerous drink options.
Give this place a shot and you won't be...
