I recently dined at Keg South and overall had a delightful experience, though there were a few aspects that could be improved upon. Here's a breakdown of my visit:
Food (5/5): The food at Keg South is absolutely divine. From their perfectly seasoned steaks to their mouthwatering burgers, every dish is prepared with care and precision. The flavors are rich, and the ingredients are fresh. I particularly enjoyed the signature burger, cooked to perfection with a melt-in-your-mouth tenderness. The menu offers a variety of options to cater to different tastes, and everything we ordered exceeded our expectations.
Ambiance (5/5): The ambiance at Keg South is warm, inviting, and perfect for a casual night out or a special occasion. The rustic decor and dim lighting create a cozy atmosphere that's ideal for enjoying a meal with friends. The seating is comfortable, and the overall layout of the restaurant is well-designed, providing both intimacy and spaciousness.
Service (3/5): Unfortunately, the service at Keg South left something to be desired. While the staff was polite, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu, the overall service was slow and somewhat inconsistent. We found ourselves waiting longer than expected for our orders to be taken and for our food to arrive at the table. Additionally, there were moments where it seemed difficult to get the attention of our server when we needed assistance. Improving the efficiency and responsiveness of the service would greatly enhance the dining experience.
Kid-Friendly (2/5): One aspect of Keg South that may not be suitable for families with children, especially in the evenings. While the restaurant does not explicitly prohibit children, the atmosphere tends to be more geared towards adults, particularly during peak dinner hours. Families may find it challenging to navigate the limited options for younger diners and the overall ambiance, which may not be conducive to a family-friendly experience.
Parking (5/5): On a positive note, parking at Keg South is plentiful and convenient. There's ample space available, which eliminates the hassle of searching for a parking spot, even during busy times. The proximity of parking to the restaurant makes it easily accessible for patrons, adding to the overall convenience of dining at Keg South.
In conclusion, Keg South offers exceptional food, a cozy ambiance, and ample parking, making it a desirable dining destination. While the service could use some improvement and it may not be the most kid-friendly option in the evenings, the overall experience is enjoyable and worth a visit for those seeking quality cuisine in a welcoming...
Read moreUPDATE: APRIL 2025 We decided to order 40 wings and smoked fish dip for takeout today. I don't know if the business was sold since our last visit, but our unbreaded, fried wings were way overdone and they tasted of bitter, old fry oil. I had asked for extra hot sauce on the side and when I opened the bag, there was one medium and one small container of hot sauce, which even with putting that on the wings, they were still barely edible. The blue cheese sauce tasted like basically bottled blue cheese dressing (no flavor and very little cheese). I was really disappointed - we have been customers for well over 40 years and to spend over $80 for barely edible food was inexcusable. I guess that we will never be going back to Keg South of Kendall.
UPDATE: June 2023 It's still a great place to stop for some pub style food, great service and a friendly atmosphere! The food is always consistent and the wait staff are tremendous and attentive. Try it soon!
ORIGINAL REVIEW My wife and I (along with many friends) have spent many hours at Keg South Kendall (by Tamiami Airport) - this is over 30 years. The atmosphere is very relaxed and friendly. If there are major sports games on, be aware that it CAN get loud sometimes. The staff are all friendly, competent, and get all food on the table hot, orders together, and in record time. Most of the servers, when seeing that my Diet Coke was almost empty, automatically brought a fresh, full glass without my having to ask for it. The food is great! SUPERIOR to fast food. Here are a few of my personal favorites: Smoked fish spread - great to spread on crackers as an appetizer 1/2 pound or 1/3 pound keg burger Fish & Chips (and yes, they have malted vinegar for an authentic British taste experience For those of us who want to drink something a little stronger, they have a TON of beers on tap, as well as a variety of canned beers. There are pool tables and arcade type games if you want to hang out an have some fun. All of the patrons get along, and I've NEVER encountered a rude person in a customer in 30+ years. I HIGHLY recommend that you give Keg South, Kendall a try. You won't be disappointed. It's a great Saturday afternoon to spend with friends, food, and pitchers of...
Read moreI have been coming here since maybe 1993-1994. We used to eat here every weekend for the longest time. I have been coming here since people used to smoke cigarettes inside. As a restaurant that I grew to love, it has left me disappointed the last 5 times, which forced me to speak up in hopes of a radical change of what it is currently becoming to what it used to be. The only reason I am not leaving a lower rating is because I truly cherish the family business and have fond memories, which is also the reason why I am leaving a review so they can be fixed.
The place is run down - bathroom dirty, ceiling falling apart, tables stained and dirty, etc.. The service isn't as friendly as before. I have had issues with the food the past 3 times and issues with service prior to that in the past 2 years. Today, for example, I received my mozzarella sticks frozen in the middle still. I returned it to have it served frozen again. The waiter knew my soda was flat yet still gave it to me. The fries weren't cooked all the way. They didn't have a few things on the menu, such as popcorn chicken, as they no longer sold it. They charge a credit card charge of roughly $3, and the prices of the food items are overpriced.
It's not so much about the price, but when there are so many different factors than it becomes value over experience instead of experience over value.
I received no apologizes for the lackluster of poor quality food/drink, which bothered me even more. As a previous restaurant manager, the management needs to step it up. You guys need to read the room and ensure that people are enjoying their food. Swing by each table and quickly ask how everything is. Do not trust your waiters to do everything. It's a temporary job for most of them. They generally do not care the way an owner should care.
I hope you take my criticism as something productive and step it up. I am a loyal customer but also a customer who expects to get generally good...
