It's great to finally have a Puerto Rican bakery in Brandon. Especially one that knows how to make mallorca pastries. It's hard to find them here, and I've never seen one with cheese and guava. This was a first for me and it was delightful. The only other mallorcas I've had were on the island at La Bombonera in OSJ and at Panificadora Pepin. Heck, I don't even remember seeing them in Miami back when I was a kid. I just remember Mom saying that no one knows how to make them like they do in Puerto Rico. She was right. Well, these are very close to what I remember although these are a little bit thicker than the ones I've had. I'll definitely go back for these pastries. The café con leche was pretty good too.
The sandwiches were good but I've had better sandwiches in the area for better prices. Also, they ran out of pan de aqua the day I was there. All they had was pan sobao for sandwiches. I do like sweet bread but I wasn't in the mood for a sweeter type of sandwich bread. The pork on the Cubano was tasty but there was very little lettuce and tomato. The Yunque Tripleta is made with your choice of meat. It was very filling, but I couldn't taste any difference between the steak and the pork. Not that it mattered but it could have been any kind of meat because it was all chopped up together. It's similar to what you'd get at the food trucks in Puerto Rico but less meaty and small. I also got 2 empanadas (chicken & beef). The chicken was the better of the two. I really liked it and would get it again. The passion fruit drink was also very good.
They have breakfast. They open at 7:00 am which is wonderful. My most recent visit was better than the last 2 visits. I arrived at around 9:30 am on a weekday. It wasn't as busy, but still a steady stream of customers. I got a Las de Cayey sandwich and it was fantastic. It's a mallorca pastry sandwich with ham and swiss inside that is grilled with butter. Kind of like a grilled ham & cheese sandwich but you get the sweet with the savory. They sprinkle powdered sugar on top. It reminded me of breakfast in Puerto Rico, but without the egg.
There will be more visits, but not on a Saturday when it's super busy. The service was friendly and welcoming. You order at the counter and they will call your name when it is ready. You may get a pager/buzzer if they have one. It depends on how busy they are that day. The wait for food coming out of the kitchen can take a very long time on a busy Saturday. Keep that in mind if you're in a hurry. There's plenty of dining space inside so you might as well sit down and wait...
Read moreNice little hidden gem. I will definitely be coming back. This is more of a snack spot. You can get multiple items and call it a meal, but it's all mainly finger foods. I will point out that they still have realistic prices. I got 3 desserts, a sandwich, alcapurria, and 2 drinks for 21$!!!!
I am not a puerto Rican food expert, but I asked some of my ptorican friends, and they commented that the cream cheese in the quesito is supposed to be sweet. Honestly, I think it tasted great. Different, but great. The alcapurrias are a little on the smaller side, but that's not a problem. Just get two! I tried the "tornillo" dessert for the first time, and their Bavarian cream is delicious! I also got a ham and cheese on pan sobao (it's like a kings Hawaiian roll), and I like that they add veggies to the sandwich.
The staff is very friendly and the place is very clean. It's family owned. Everything looks fresh on display, and my food was made to order. I am excited to go again to try other puerto Rican staples. Like a taco with...

Where to begin with this? I figured as many Cuban sandwiches as I have tried and I'm going to try I would eventually find somebody that just makes a really bad sandwich. Today is that day.
The name of the page is respectful and I am going to do my best to keep it that way.
The smell was terrible the moment I sat down in my car. After nibbling each topping I found out what it was. The mustard was saturated with vinegar, and it was almost like eating sour candy. It was not traditional bread. It was not buttered. It was barely pressed. The mojo pork was horrible. It was flavorless and the most chewy pork I've ever had in my life. It was so tough that I was unable to even try to eat most bites. This which was the first one that I had to stop eating after three or four bites. I could not attempt anymore.
I was hoping I would never have to right a review like this but this has been the worst Cuban in our area by far.
On to the...
