A few years ago, I was coming back from getting my hair cut when I saw a new restaurant had opened. I didn’t know much about Vietnamese food, but I was really hungry, so I decided to give it a try. When I walked in, I saw a couple: a pregnant Asian woman working at the cashier and a white guy wearing an apron in the kitchen.
I picked up one of the menus, and while I was looking through it, the friendly lady patiently explained the different options to me. I decided to order Pad Thai noodles with shrimp. I took a seat and waited for my food.
When my food arrived, I noticed the couple watching me anxiously, hoping I’d enjoy it. I took my first bite, delicious. It tasted like good, homemade food made with care and love. I know it sounds cheesy, but as a Latino, I love food that tastes like it was made by one of my tias. I gave them a thumbs up, and their faces lit up with smiles.
I was hooked. From then on, every time I got a haircut, I stopped by to get some food. My favorites include Com Thit Nuong (White Rice Plate), Banh Mi (Steak), Pho Dac Biet (Specialty Combination), and their coffee. I don’t know how they make it, but it’s incredible, you have to try it.
Years passed, and I can proudly call myself a regular. I watched as they brought more people to work in the kitchen, family members, from what I could tell. The aunties and uncles cooking in the back were something truly heartwarming to see. I saw when they had baby number two and when they hired a young Latina girl with red curly hair. She’s the sweetest and most efficient cashier/server you’ll ever meet.
I also witnessed their growth. I went from being the only customer in the restaurant to having to sit outside because the inside was too full. They proved to me that the American dream is still alive, you just need to work hard, care about what you do, and pour your love into it.
Sorry if I went on too long, but I had to give honor to my favorite restaurant in Orlando.
P.D: Tonight I got some Pho, perfect for this weird, cold Florida...
Read moreWould love to give a better review however have been coming here for a couple years and the pho prices have gone up about 75% in that timeframe and quality has gone down a little . Owner tried to blame labor costs but florida wage only went up $1 in two years. Maybe food costs but hard to justify almost 100% increase in prices and then how do you explain the quality change? Still solid though if you’re in the area!
Okay in response to your timely provocative reply to an honest review. First off, i found the broth to be less tasty than before and i very much enjoy a beefy broth sorry you jumped to that conclusion but it actually tasted more watered down and on top of that i received 4 small pieces of meat and before I believe it was 6 please correct me if I’m wrong maybe you weigh them.
Second, I am also a local business owner and my wage is not reflect by any wage changes as you made the assumption also another jab.
Third, did you just draw a comparison with yourself and McDonalds? Thats a strange analogy coming from everything you described that your restaurant stands for but hey i think I get your point of rising costs
Lastly, no complaint was said about current price just noticed how the price has gone up so much in a short time as stated. Please spend more time looking to improve your small business in a “world filled with big corporate restaurants” instead of looking at ways to insult your patrons as you clearly have attempted here. I also finished the review with a positive note in support of your place. People value objective reviews when they search restaurants locally and if you feel insulted was not...
Read moreI don’t know why I haven’t posted a review sooner, as I’ve been going to P’s Viet for years now. This is my kids and my favorite place to eat in all of Orlando!! And that says a lot! Being half Asian decent, I miss my mom’s home cooking and when I found P’s it reminded me of my mom’s home cooking. I don’t know the background story but it just has a family feel to it. We only ever get take out because we drive 2 hours every other weekend to eat here from where we live in Lake Wales. When I first started coming here we got the sweetest hand written notes and stickers on the food, thanking us for supporting their business. That gave it an extra special touch. The main things my kids always want are their tofu summer rolls which they say are the best they’ve had (and they’ve tried them pretty much everywhere!), as well as their pho soups. I have to say besides a place near us in Winter Haven that has good pho, P’s is our favorite for authentic flavor. I really haven’t had a bad thing here, everything is delicious and full of flavor but most of all has that home cooked feel and taste. Gotta mention my favorite which is the steak bao buns!! You can thank me later! ;) Thank you P’s for being a breath of fresh air in Orlando 🩷will continue to support you as long as you are here...
