I generally never leave a review unless I absolutely LOVE the restaurant, which means no less than a 5 star. Pho is my absolute go to comfort food so this one hurts a little. Had friends visiting who have never had pho before so was excited to try this place because they had great reviews. The pho was pretty good, I'm not going to lie. The food portions were bigger than most Vietnamese restaurants. We also ordered the grilled pork chop, chicken fried rice and the seafood pan fried crispy noodle. The flavors were good on everything, the seafood was slightly overdone but that happens. What was most disappointing really was the service. With Covid it has been understandable with staff shortages and all but I don't think that was the issue. I mean maybe they had a ton of delivery of pickup orders. I don't know. When we walked in there was maybe 2 tables with 2-4 people at each table, so not that busy. Someone came to get our order...fine. Then someone starts bringing the food. Sets each dish at the end of the table and I basically pass it down. No silverware or plates. Had to ask for it. Started eating...still haven't received our drink orders. Had to ask for it...twice. We ate and then waited...and waited...finally went up to the counter to ask for containers to take home leftovers and for our check. Grabbed our own containers and then was told (by the gentleman seemingly annoyed that we took his attention away from his phone) to come up to the front pay the check. My friend visiting paid the check and as we were getting in the car she asked "why is there a service fee?" We were a table of 4 and they added their own tip! So for the worst service ever they were given 35% tip (my friend added tip as well!). If that didn't happen I may have given this place another chance cause the food was decent. But no...there's no excuse when you're a paying customer and you leave feeling robbed. I doubt my friend would ever want to try Vietnamese...
Read moreOur recent visit to House of Pho in Orlando left us with mixed feelings about this Vietnamese spot. While some dishes impressed, others fell short of expectations.
We kicked off our meal with the classic pho, opting for meatballs and adding tendons. The attendants were generous with their portions, and the soup itself was flavorful and comforting. A promising start to our dining experience.
Next up were the summer rolls with grilled chicken, which did not disappoint. The freshness of the ingredients and the well-grilled chicken made for a satisfying appetizer.
However, our enthusiasm dwindled when my husband's bu loc lac arrived. The shaking beef was disappointingly tough, and the dish lacked the flavorful punch we were hoping for. It was a letdown compared to the other dishes we tried.
In terms of ambiance, House of Pho is far from fancy. The atmosphere is casual, bordering on outdated, and cleanliness was acceptable but not outstanding.
Service was hit or miss, leaning more towards mediocre. While the staff were attentive to our needs, there were moments of delay and inconsistency.
Overall, House of Pho offers generous portions and some tasty dishes, but the inconsistent quality and lackluster ambiance detract from the overall experience. If you're in the mood for Vietnamese cuisine and don't mind a casual setting, it's worth a try, but don't set your...
Read moreI heard that Vietnamese food in Orlando was something that one must try when in town. My boyfriend and I were only in town for the weekend, so we didn't get a chance to go to the downtown area where all of the good Vietnamese restaurants are located. That area was a tad far from our hotel. So I did a quick Google maps search and found House of Pho, which had pretty great reviews and wasn't located too far away.
We got there at around 8:30 and they welcomed us, even though the place closes at 9. We placed our orders - shrimp and pork egg rolls to share, large pho (Beef Tenderloin, Brisket, Flank, Meatball, Tendon &Tripe) for me, and fried rice with chicken, beef, and shrimp for him.
The egg rolls had a nice filling but the egg roll wraps they used were the same ones you'll find at a Chinese takeout restaurant. Wasn't the best but wasn't bad either - just something different from the typical Vietnamese spring rolls in NYC that I'm used to. The large pho was larger than I expected. I was only able to eat half. The noodles were kind of stuck together, which was my only gripe. The broth was great but again, not the best ever.
I would say if you're nearby and you're craving Viet, House of Pho is a pretty solid option. Otherwise, I'm sure downtown has way...
