Unfortunately, the dishes were hit or miss, mostly miss. The shrimp tempura roll was good, comparable in flavor to other spots around but did not shine. The beef sticks appetizer were alright. They reminded me of a higher end quality of the ones from a Pupu Platter at a Chinese restaurant flavorwise. Nothing wrong with them, but not really my thing, so i probably would not have them again. The vegetable fried rice was not bad, but also would not reorder since I have had better at other places and would not go out of my way to order it as an extra item. I had the teriyaki salmon from the grill, which was quite good. It was served with Miso Soup or Salad, which I opted for Miso Soup and came accompanied by white rice and vegetables. Unfortunately, they would not substitute for fried rice in the meal when asked, which was not only disappointing, but also the reason I was convinced to order a side of fried rice when prompted. I also was a bit disappoint you do not get both a Soup and a salad, like other restaurants of its kind would offer. I also tried a bit of my girlfriends grilled chicken meal from the grill, which she got with similar sides. I would not recommend as I did not enjoy the flavor of the sauce. It did not remind me of a traditional asian flavor that i am used to. Id say more of like a Mediterranean flavor since it reminded with notes of lemon and peppers. In summary, it was a bit pricey, and only one item I would say was super enjoyable, so I probably would not return. It's not a bad spot as the service and order accuracy were on target, but would not be...
Read moresince we got there, whomever was there just rudely told us to sit wherever. Waitress comes and while she's the only one attending 5 tables at a time...which is not her fault...she's rushing us. Food gets out in a timely manner but...my dancing shrimp roll was missing something kind of significant being spicy tuna...the avocado. Ihave two more rolls left and iask for the menu just so iknow im not crazy and yes, there was no avocado on my roll. She takes a fork and pokes at my food to see if iwas lying and then tells the "chef" that there was no avocado so she comes back with three slivers of avocado and asks if everything was okay....OBVIOUSLY NOT# iwas already annoyed by the lack of consideration. she finally got us the check...hesitated to give her 20% because im in the industry and the tip is based on service but this time ihad to do 18%. By the time we were done signing checks she comes and opens the book looks at the check and leaves. needless to say, pricey for the rolls that were messed up and super small. Service was terrible. Ambiance was eh. It was a sunday at like 8pm. My friend said give them a negative 50 butttt they were open late on a nonbusy night. So...
Read moreI go here twice a year, on my birthday and on Christmas, and have been doing so for years now, as part of my birthday/Christmas presents to myself ... I was lucky enough to have my brother introduce me to the restaurant based on the 5 star reviews this place has received - reviews that are deserved and completely accurate as far as I'm concerned!
My wife is an incredibly fussy eater and still loves the fried fish (I think it's number 18 on the menu?) , which I get her every year as part of her birthday "treats"... I have only eaten the sushi but I can assure you that it's top notch, I particularly enjoy the celebration rolls but I found the other sushi to be REALLY good too..
I've always found the staff to be very friendly and highly efficient... oddly enough another Japanese restaurant (can't even remember it's name) decided to open up RIGHT NEXT DOOR to Sushi Yama, which in addition to being a poor business decision seems downright rude (as far as I'm concerned ;) ) .. I've flat out ignored the rival opening up next door and plan to ignore them in the years to come - I'm perfectly happy with my Sushi...
