March 2019
Tijuana Flats, Cleveland Ave., Ft. Myers, Fl., Here is my 2 cents on the food and chatter.
I was in the mood for a taco but settled for enchiladas.
So I decided to try this place
The best things first. Outstanding staff. Very helpful.
Plus a believe it or not a hot & spicy sauce bar. Who would have known this of all things in Florida.
Now the food. $6 bucks seems to be the average price here. Which is a good thing.
Since Floridians have horrible taste buds this is a great thing.
The food is terrible with massive amount of SODIUM...For Floridian this means SALT. Just too much.
Now I know why they have this hot sauce bar. It covers the salty food.
Never more for me...Though I do not have any health issue with salt. It just taste bad.
Well my search for a authentic burrito continues!!!
First Staff is OUTSTANDING and its really clean even during a rush
As I read the other remarks I could tell these folks have NEVER had a REAL burrito..
This is a hybrid. The REAL burrito was made in the 40's/50's in the Mission District of San Francisco, Ca. I lived there for 35 years I know.
This is the place for the 21st century. OK but NOT great as old school.
My PORK BURRITO I will start the dissection of it with the GOOD points.. My pork was lean and pretty tasty. They used real fresh jalapenos ( added extra as my request..).. That had refried beans( a must) mmm that's it.
Other good. They offered 15 different types of HOT sauces. from eye opener to Kill your taste buds and sweat it out. EXCELLENT.
But really 10....., TEN DOLLARS FOR this mediocre imitation . They also offered lettuce on this ...really OMG. No salsa on the side. Chips alright.
Here is the ingredient's of a REAL stop your heart fill your belly for at least 2 meals. Choice of meats chile verde, roast pork, steak, ground beef, chicken, beef tongue. (Meats cooked on a grill.) 10 inch tortilla , your choice, cheese , salsa - home made mild -hot -to wild., Cheese. sour cream, black beans, pinto beans, refried beans. NEVER LETTUCE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! weight 8-10 ounces cost a year or so 7-8 dollars. For a pretty close REAL burrito go to Super Taco in North Fort Myers
But since choices are limited this is NOT...
Read moreVery friendly staff & clean dining room. I was the only one there, so I could see just about everything.
I arrived about 10 minutes prior to closing. At lesser quality restaurants, delaying the staffs' clock-out time will usually get you:
A. Moaning/groaning/Very dirty looks B. Lots of cursing (& hexing) C. Cigarette ashes used to spice your food (if you're lucky). D. All of the above.
But my late patronage didn't seem to affect anyone's mood in the slightest. The chef even chatted with me while making my food. Otherwise, he was cheerfully humming/singing the song playing throughout the restaurant. The music must have been on a loop, because THE ENTIRE STAFF knew EVERY WORD to the song, and what song was next...before it even started.
The tacos I had (one blackened chicken/one steak) were perfectly cooked & seasoned. They were stuffed with EXCEPTIONALLY fresh veggies, & were the biggest tacos I've EVER seen! The only criticism I could possibly have is that they skimped a bit on the sour cream. Perhaps they were just using the right amount of sour cream for a normal size taco... Rather than their super-sized taco.
My husband, Peter, got burritos. (1 blackened chicken/1 steak.) He typically orders 3--4 burritos & easily finishes them. When I asked the lady ringing up the order how big the burritos were, she showed me a menu picture and said it's bigger than it looks in the photo. It seemed so big I only ordered 2 and hoped it would be enough. She was not exaggerating. Even without any beans on his burritos, he couldn't even finish the first one.
My husband loves everything that is scorchingly 🔥🥵🔥hot & spicy, so I was sure to get a wide array of their hot sauce. jalapenos & habaneros are his candy! He now wants to go buy 10 bottles of the hottest sauces they have. I can't eat any of those hot sauces, but it will still be a fun shopping experience, though. Especially since I didn't include their 5 hottest sauces in the sampling...
Read moreI love this place! It's a clean and more fresh version of taco bell. The prices are fair for the quality of the food. The staff is friendly and helpful if you have not been there before. I visited Tuesday May 28th and Becky helped me out with my order. She asked if I had been there before and I told her just one other time and it was a long time ago. She told me it was taco Tuesday and explained the says promotion. I asked if I could upgrade to the tacos with the cheese between the soft and hard shell of the taco and she said I could. She was great at explaining how things worked and was patient with me while I decided what to order. For someone who works in fast food she was patient and professional and not just trying to get me in and out.She told me to download the app so that I could get a free dos tacos on my next visit and when I left she even reminded me to download the app. I appreciated that.
I went back today May 29th and placed the same order with another lady in the restauarant and was able to get my free dos tacos. This time however there was a bit of a wait and while I was ok waiting I was pretty hungry. Well Becky came out with my food and apologized for the wait and offered me a free queso with my tacos and chips. I appreciated that because I love queso and it's really delicious to dip the tacos in it. I kindly asked her name and told her i would give a her a review. I have been to many different restaurants and paid way more money and not have been treated as well for just waiting a little. I am forever a fan of Tijuana Flats and I sincerely hope someone in charge sees this review, and gives Becky a raise. She knows how to...
