To start with, I have nearly no experience with any Nigerian cuisine, so if it's not authentic, I wouldn't know. That said, here's my experience with a small group. They had music playing when we entered. It was a bit loud for such a small space, but it did get a bit quieter after a bit. There's not a whole lot to say about the atmosphere, but it is clean and taken care of. The only person we saw ran both the register as well as waited the tables. That said, he was quite friendly and helpful. The food seemed fairly reasonably priced if you don't get the expensive meats. Otherwise, your $10 meal can quickly get up over $20. When our food arrived, it all looked tasty. By the time we were wrapping up, everyone seemed more than satisfied with the flavor. The only weird thing is that the chicken was served whole bone-in, whether it is in soup or on rice. My wife found it difficult to get the meat off in her soup. I do plan on coming by here again to try some other dishes.

It was my son, and I's first-time trying House Of Joloff, and I can honestly say we will be back. We did a quick google search for Nigerian food (my 13 year old son likes to try different foods). House of Joloff was the first restaurant to pop up on our good search for Nigerian cuisine. It was a 30-minute drive for us, and it was DEFINITELY worth it. We ordered the Joloff rice with Oxtail and mild spice, Egusi soup with Chicken and side of Fufu, and a delicious meat pie/empanda, which they have a veggie options but we ordered the beef meat pie and it was cooked to perfection, so simple but with so much flavor. Every dish we had was just packed with so much flavor, African spices, oxtail meat falling off the bone, to the egusi soup that was surprisingly delicious! We will definitely be back. Absolutely amazing first time. They did NOT disappoint. The father and daughter were so helpful when we needed to order and understand the menu. Thank you so much for a wonderful meal!

Wow this place certainly blew my mind! I had never tried African food before, and was just watching videos online about it and before I knew it, my mouth was watering. Googled for "African food" and this was one of the first results in terms of places close to me. Ordered online and got the jollof with tilapia, goat, and chicken. Also got a side of fried plantains. Was debating getting goat soup because I know I like goat but was worried it might be way too spicy for my weak stomach, LOL. But the lady there was so nice and let me try a small sample and it was so amazing so I bought some. Everything was so flavorful and very generously portioned. I will certainly be back for more goat soup. Nothing here was too spicy for me, I just got it mild. The fufu is very interesting, it's basically like a starchy paste that you dip in the goat soup which gives it flavor and helps fill you up. I would definitely order everything I had tonight a second time!

The owner has a HORRIBLE way of speaking to customers. He got frustrated and decided to start yelling because I asked a question and he didn’t clarify his response. He yelled at me then threw the phone down and left me on hold until finally hanging up. Very rude and condescending. You can’t get mad because you had to rig something and when asked for clarification you couldn’t. Very sassy and unprofessional behavior from a business owner.

Response to Owner on 6/22: I asked “whoever”was on the phone if they were the owner and their response was “yes I am”. Regardless, your staff is a representation of you as the business. As far as me “not getting my way”???? I asked if the jars of stew were being sold again(they weren’t for months even though they were still on the sight) which their response was “yes but we don’t have jars right now but we can put it in a BOWL”. I asked if the bowl would have the same amount as the jar and the person on the phone said “ma’am if it’s gonna be a problem then no because we have had people upset about the bowl” I asked why would there be a problem unless the amount or sizing would be less than what we are paying for and that’s when the employee/manager/owner/whoever started yelling and threw the phone down. I would never deny their food being decent but I won’t put hard earned money in pockets of a company that can’t be respectful to their customers. I asked a SIMPLE question, never cursed or raised my voice. So as i stated before HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE and that alone will keep me from supporting your business or ever recommending this restaurant to anyone ever again. And I know I wasn’t overreacting due to other reviews talking about how bad the customer...

I've been visiting House of Jollof for years because the food is delish and it's hard to find good Jollof in the area. I've since moved away and when back in the area I visit to stock up on Shito and Tomato Stew. This past week when going to get my restock on shito I ordered 3 jars for $15 a piece like I've always have. When I arrived i had to wait 10 - 15 mins in the lobby because my order wasn't ready yet mind you it took me 15 minutes to get to the restaurant after placing the online order. Once my order was ready they came out with 3 plastic bowls with sauce in them. I asked why weren't they in jars like in the past and they replied, "we don't put it in the jars anymore" I replied, oh I planned on shipping these back home through the mail. The guy said I can get you some empty jars and brought me 3 empty jars (If they had empties back there why not put it in there in the first place?) Once getting home i transferred the sauce into the 12oz jars and to my surprise it was not nearly the amount I paid for! The three bowls only came up to a jar and a half AND after settling half of it was oil and not sauce. I feel ripped off because I paid for three products and was deceived into thinking I got what I paid for. $50 for not even half the product I've paid for is insane. If it's different now, make the website reflect that so your customers can purchase accordingly. For some reason Google won't allow me to upload the photo proof but I do have them for future reference

Update: Talked with the owner Prince and he immediately made things right! I am appreciative of him ensuring a great experience...

I went there really wanting to love it.

There wasn't much chance of that happening.

The jollof rice was totally inauthentic. I can't imagine anyone going back there a second time for that mess. It was dry and tasteless. The chicken that went with it was both overcooked and mushy at the same time. I don't know how exactly you can even do that.

The peanut soup was an absolute joke. They've obviously never been to Africa and actually tasted peanut soup. It tastes nothing like that. I think they put some tomato sauce and half a jar of Skippy in a pan and heated it up. That's what it tasted like. It was disgusting.

The plantains were just greasy.

There was nothing to recommend.

After waiting for over 30 minutes at a restaurant that was not busy in the least.

Not to mention the fact that it cost over $60 for two people.

I could have gone to downtown St. Louis to a nice Italian restaurant across the street from Cardinal stadium and had change left my pocket after having a good dinner for $60.

This was $60 for rice, half a piece of chicken and some peanut butter in a bowl. Seriously?

Then to add insult to injury they have the most obnoxious music playing. It's actually not so much that the music was annoying as it was too loud and the videos are not appropriate for families. The cash register wasn't working until we had to pay $4 to get cash out of the ATM next door.

Inevitably we left and found a McDonald's. Because we...
