ISTA INDIAN CUISINE - FLOWER MOUND — Restaurant in Flower Mound

I have given this place three chances to see if they are sensitive to their customer's feedback. All three times they have disappointed me. It is safe to say I will never go back there again and strongly encourage you to do the same. If you ever do go back, save face and don't take your friends with you, coz they will serve you bad food. The first time around I ordered Vegetable Biryani, I mentioned a few times that I want it spicy, what I got was lots of white rice with what I could only imagine as frogen mixed vegetables from walmart, forget being spicy, it was not even mild, it was actually bland. The second time around I ordered Gobi Manchurian, what I got instead was Gobi is spices and ketchup, anybody who knows Good Gobi Manchurian knows what I am talking about. The third time was over this last weekend, I took two of my friends who have never been there, but love Indian food. What do we get? Mediocre to non existent service and below par food. This time around, I ordered Samosa Chaat and Gobi Manchurian. I stressed again and again that I want the Gobi Manchurian spicy and dry. I was assured that it was always served dry. When I got the dish, it was fully of gravy, there were about 5 ot 6 Gobi pieces, none of them had the chewy taste of good Gobi Manchurian. The Samosa Chaat was average, but not as tasty as it should have been. My friends who love Indian food ordered what they usually order at other Indian places, Chicken Tikka Masala and Chicken 65 and both had bad things to say about the food and service. We tried complaining about our food and gave our feedback, the guy listened to us patiently and then promptly gave us the check with a smile. What did we do, we just silently signed the check and vowed never to come back to this place.

Do yourself a favor, there are plenty of good Indian restaurants in the DFW area that serve great food, have great service and listen to your feedback and ensure customer satisfaction.

Visited this restaurant on a Saturday afternoon for lunch with friends. There is ample parking, the seating area was nice and spacious, the Buffett section was very well laid out and the price was reasonable given the selection of food.

I often try to search for places that offer lunch Buffett to get a glimpse of the quality of the food offered and this place didn’t disappoint, apart from a few things that I’ll touch upon later. The food options (both for vegetarian and meat eaters) was good and they offer complementary naan bread (not Garlic Naan). As far as drinks were concerned, there was lemonade and masala chai.

I tried almost everything that was on display, from chili chicken (which was a must try), tandoori chicken (which was colder than a beer kept in a refrigerator, unfortunately), andhra chicken curry coupled with puri (YES, you read this right, they had puri!!!) and Naan along with methi paneer curry and veg jalfrezi. There were also fried pakoras and deserts (rice pudding and carrot halwa).

Let’s talk about the pricing, we paid $15/ person excluding taxes and tip. For the price, the Buffett was a steal. My only regret was that the food was cold, maybe we went a little too early for lunch that they didn’t have the time to heat everything. Also, I was expecting some kind of shrikhand or amraas to pair with the puri (all the desi crowd would definitely agree with me on this :D), maybe I’m overreaching here with that puri shrikhand, but the pros far out way the cons here. I’ve had this restaurant on my list to visit for a long time and finally had the opportunity to. I was instantly disappointed. The buffet spread looked good but the food itself was disappointing. The food was too bland. They had chole bhatura and the bhaturas were crispy, and chole was bland. I had to add onions and lime on the side and it still didn’t do justice. They had sort of aloo gobi that looked so watery and again - bland.

The aloo gobi tasted nothing like aloo gobi and it was more of a mush, even serving it on to the plate mushed it up. The paneer butter masala was sweet. Kids actually liked that, but not the adults. The Gajjar ka halwa was very good and that’s the reason why I gave the restaurant 2 stars. The Biriyani was dry, but the only item that had any taste or spice in it. It was more of a pulav than Biriyani but still tasted okayish. The rice was dried off and when eating it was getting dried pieces. They had some sort of beans fry and it looked too unappetizing to try it.

I’m not sure about the meat options, but I think they might have been better as people were going back for seconds. If you are a vegetarian and a die hard Indian food fan this place isn’t for you.
