Went here for Mother’s Day after seeing raving reviews but was quite disappointed of the food and service for the price point of the restaurant.
Food: 2/5 Best part of the night was the lump crab dip which is quite disappointing for a steak house. The French onion soup had very little cheese and just wasn’t what we expected. The wedge salad was excellent. My prime rib and my sisters boyfriend’s ribeye were both over cooked. I was able to get mine corrected so that was much appreciated. The lobster Mac and cheese was disappointing. A good amount of lobster but the mac and cheese was watery and too salty.
Service: 1/5 Our server was very sweet but clearly lacking in training or experience for the price point of the restaurant. My mother had a question about the prime rib and she didn’t have an answer for her which had me perplexed. We were not checked on as frequently as we would have liked especially when we were ready to order drinks and food. When we did pay for our meal the check still had the returned French onion soup and my overcooked prime rib. Partly our mistake for not asking to see the check before handing her our credit cards but we were just ready to go. It took 30 minutes to get this corrected and we’re not sure if the server didn’t ask the manager on duty or help but he was just sitting at the bar doing another task when she was clearly struggling! The second time we got our checks it was still wrong on my sisters credit card but we were fed up so we just asked for a free drink for my mom and called it even.
Ambiance: 1/5 Nice decor and volume of music is fine but that’s not reason for the low rating. When I went to go use the restroom there was urine all over the toilet seat. I know everything can’t be perfect but when we’re paying over $100 a person for a nice evening out with my mom I’d expect the restroom to be clean.
Save yourself the money and just go to Texas Roadhouse for the same level of service and food quality for a quarter of the price. We did receive a gift card from the manager for all the trouble but we’re unlikely to even come back...
Read moreTL;DR - Brunch on Sunday with friends was excellent on every level. Highly recommend.
Brunch has its own menu at Tycoon but their regular menu is available as well. Since it was our first time in, our group of four opted for a combination of entrees from both menus.
When I saw the double-bone pork chop, I had to try it since I love them when cooked properly and loathe them when cooked poorly and I was feeling gutsy. I verified with our server that the normal cook is "medium" but they'd accommodate other temperatures. I confirmed that "medium" was perfect and that I expected the chop to be lightly pink on the interior. It arrived at the table perfectly cooked and very flavorful. Huge win.
My wife found the steak tips very flavorful and loved the sauce and duck fat potatoes that came with it. Since she's no fan of mushrooms, I was able to enjoy the mushroom and onion sauce and enjoyed it greatly.
The smoked salmon board was one of the brunch selections and was beautifully composed. The only oddity is that it did not include capers, which is quite traditional. However, they were promptly provided when requested and that made the board perfect.
The ahi tuna entree was also perfectly cooked and flavorful. Of particular note was the salad that accompanied it. The friend who ordered it is European and noted that it was "the most European salad I've had in the US". That is a high complement as she's constantly disappointed here. She particularly noted the use of fennel and a couple of other items that made the salad's flavor composition particularly noteworthy. She ate it simply with olive oil and truly enjoyed it.
We ended brunch with dessert, because... why not? We opted for the 13-layer carrot cake and it is as stellar as it is large. We didn't come close to finishing it, but will enjoy it all eventually.
In addition, atmosphere is upscale and quiet and the service was prompt, knowledgeable and professional. Nice job Joel.
We plan on becoming regulars and will no doubt be returning for...
Read moreThe service is seriously lacking. After being seated at a booth by the bar, 20 minutes went by without anyone coming by to acknowledge us. My husband went to the front and had to wait there to get noticed by the manager who apologized to him but did not come by the table at all to apologize. Once once our server showed up, also no apology for the wait, I think it took an hour just to get drinks to our table. Our server was not at the experience level I would like for a restaurant that charges what they do. Nobody came to check on us after our entrees arrived and my chicken was way over cooked and very dry. The salads served on the side of the entrees were really lacking and flavor. My husband had the ahi tuna and the only flavor was spice. Which I like but there was no depth of flavor. The manager did pass by and asked if we needed anything before our entrees arrived, and my husband ordered another drink. That drink never came. If the manager is making these kinds of mistakes, then it makes sense that the staff will as well. There was zero attention to detail. The cocktails were just okay. Safe to say we will not be back anytime soon. Hopefully they can work on their service standards and menu which is already not very large. You would expect each dish to be impeccable.
The highlight of the meal was the French onion soup. It was absolutely delicious. Side note: It is supposed to be Truffle French Onion Soup, but when our server brought it to our table, they asked if we would like and I quote “ONE drop of truffle oil on top” we said yes and they literally put one drop of oil. While comical to me, you could not taste truffle at all. It was still...
