Update 9.21.24 This place has been awesome since the day it openped. 7.31.23 Haven't been here in a while due to medical reasons but this place is just as good today as my previous reviews. Y'all, Try the double chocolate cake! I ate here five times in one month and the service and food were spot on each time. This is an All Texas venue from the food, art, music and spirits presented at this restaurant. It's pretty casual place but can be a fancy night out. My only gripe is that they open at 4 pm every day that it's open. It would be a great place for lunch. If you're not in the door within the first hour I would suggest reservations. The bar gets pretty packed also within the first two hours. Mainly from the locals living within walking distance of the restaurant. This is a great place to take someone you want to impress for a date, prom or someone from out of town. They'll remember this place and the food. The menu is not long and tedious. They stick to the basics and do it over the top and with rich flavors. Most appetizers are for two, three or even four person servings. Order the 'Texas Experience' if you have a group of people (at least four)... It's not on the menu but your server can tell you about it. I've order all of the appetizers and you can't go wrong with any. The cocktail shrimp is my favorite. The queso with fillet steak pieces comes in at a close second.
My ten yo son keeps ordering the chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy. He will not order anything else. (Update: he order something else- the chicken fried chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries, and ate it all). He tells everyone he can that it's his favorite restaurant. All the salads are huge, well except for the house salad, it's larger than a normal side salad. The steaks have been perfect and made to your choice of doneness. Drinks have been made with a heavy pour too. So I think you definitely get your money's worth.
You will have to make room for the blueberry cobbler with vanilla ice cream. It's the house best seller and I can see why. Once you have it you'll make sure you order it again and even to go. It's one of the desserts that you can enjoy with someone else or by yourself. 8.31.2022 Update 10.14.2022 I've been here several times more, & it keeps getting better I think. The staff is always in a great mood and with a pleasant attitude. Jackie and Bobby are always ready to help and make things right although things can happen that is out of their control. Wait staff again is very knowledgeable and courteous. Nina, Tuesday, Seth and others I can't remember off the top of my head because I've only had them serve me once, are great folks to work with. My son finally tried something different than the chicken fried chicken that he loves. It's the chicken fried chicken sandwich. Go figure. He likes this with a side of gravy instead of the honey ranch and the sweet potato fries (they're really sweet). I celebrated my birthday this time around, so I ordered the Smoked Pork Chop with a side of asparagus. 😲 WOW! This thing looks good but smells even better! I knew going in that there is NO WAY that I could finish it and have desert too. Well at least without doing some damage to myself and having a wheelchair roll out service (not on the menu - yet) The Blackened Redfish with fish sauce was amazing once again. I will have to say that the kitchen knows what they are doing and I applaud their attention to detail, day after day because they have been on point - every single time I've been here. Bravo my friends, BRAVO. I hope they keep up the excellent work, all around this restaurant. Update: 02.13.23 I keep forgetting to mention the front of the house is also pleasant all the time and really try to accommodate us each time we arrive. They do read the comments in the reservations. We have a favorite spot now. We have requested it several times and have been happy to eat there. The reservations are through the Google maps and is extremely easy to use. It automatically puts it in your calendar, once...
Read moreMy party attended 1845 for my brother’s 21st birthday. Jordan was our server, and he was ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE, from attentiveness, clarity and knowledge on the dishes and drinks, whatever we needed, he was on top of it. Service was above and beyond.
It was explained the 1845 and all of its decor is in honor of Texas and Texas history. From the wall art to the music (all music played in the restaurant is music made by Texans, pretty cool if you ask me). But this doesn’t mean it’s like a ranch or a hacienda. The main dining area is comfortable and dimly lit as a high end restaurant should be, inviting and comfortable.
Our table of 5 shared the appetizer, “the Texas Experience” which is a sample platter of several of their other appetizers, Lockhart Fried Quail, Poblano Meatballs, Pork Belly, and Fried Jalapeños, all with their respective dips for maximized flavor. This appetizer is an absolute highlight of the restaurant and if you are with a party of 3 or 4 it’s almost plenty of food to get you through the night.
We all had drinks and cocktails (of course it’s a 21st bday party). I had the Woodford old fashioned (had 2 actually) and it was made exactly right, citrus and bitters, with the lovely flavor of Woodford Reserve (not a Texas whiskey, which…I think maybe a good idea to switch to a Texas whiskey of your restaurant is based on Texas and Texas history, but I digress, because the drink was perfect, just a thought.)
We all ordered different cuts of Steak for our entrees. I ordered the 14 oz ribeye, cooked medium rare. I ordered 2 sides to go with it, and added a side of grilled shrimp.
The steak is the interesting part. I was NOT blown away by it. Maybe it’s because the appetizers were so beyond excellent that they overshadowed the steak. However, even with the house peppercorn sauce the steak was underwhelming. It was cooked perfectly to medium rare like I asked, but the flavor was just not hitting me the way o was anticipating.
The shrimp however, were EXCELLENT! I remember thinking I should have ordered as my entree instead…The mashed potatoes were another dish that were slightly underwhelming. They lacked some of the flavors that I really look for in mashed potatoes at a good steak house, butter, garlic, pepper, a hint of chives maybe….none of that was present, to me they came off bland and a little dry.
The last thing I ordered was the Macaroni and cheese, and this is an absolute banger. It was a component to every dish I ordered and was another highlight of the evening for me. Creamy and delicious, the macaroni and cheese is a clear standout.
Finally the Bourbon Peach Cobbler with vanilla ice cream was ordered as dessert. We all got a few bites and it was a wonderful way to end the meal. I would highly suggest the peach cobbler.
In the end, I would definitely go back to 1845, I would try things a little different, and literally would try any entree beside the steaks…sounds weird I know. But if you are a Texan, as I am…you’ve had some really good steak, and their steak, at those prices, just wasn’t up to snuff with the rest of the food. I would highly recommend trying 1845 if you are looking for some unique, savory,...
Read moreI had the pleasure to visit this venue Friday night to celebrate my sister's birthday, we had a large party of 10 people in attendance. There's lots of places to park. However, this is located within an apartment complex block, so pay attention to some of the parking signs that are specifically reserved for residents only (this includes handicap parking as well). The outside of the restaurant has a nice large lounge area for a patio where u can sit down and relax and take photos. There are no dining tables outside. Inside the waiting area has lots of seating available while you wait for your table to be available. Immediately after you pass the waiting area by the Hostess there is a full service bar and booth tables on each side, further down there's areas to accommodate larger parties and also a back room for private parties. There are lots of items on the menu for those who don't eat red meat and / or are vegetarian or vegan. The restaurant only plays music of artists local to the state of Texas, so be ready to listen to some oldies but goodies (one note i want to make is that the music is slightly louder than usual so if u have a big party it may be a little hard of hearing the people on the opposite end, outside of that everything else was great). All food items are also locally grown or raised. The restaurant really does stick to their Texas theme, which includes photographs and / or artwork made by local photographers and artists. Their decor and vibe inside is very nice. It is tastefully done in a way where you don't feel like you're at the rodeo but instead at a fine dining location. Our waitstaff was extremely nice and accommodating. They were super knowledgeable about not only the history of the restaurant and our great state of Texas but also the menu and drink items. Overall, I am highly impressed by the whole experience. I personally ordered the red snapper with crayfish and mash potatoes with a house salad. I also ordered a cocktail with my dinner. This is a fine dining restaurant, so be ready to pay if you decide to order some of their specialty items and additional menu options. Everyone in attendance ordered lots of different items from the menu, anywhere from fish, to steak, quail, and their huge porkchop! The quail and spinach dip appetizers were delightful. My redsnapper was delicious, and it was a very large portion that I had to box half my meal to take home. Don't worry, it was just as delicious when I had my leftovers the next day. Staff was also nice enough to take a lot of group photos for us inside and outside of the venue before everyone went home. Overall, we had a great experience, I would definitely come back to dine here again. This is also a great spot for...
