Beware of this restaurant if you have any sort of dietary restriction or allergy. When asking what the dish "homestyle tofu" was since there was zero description, the woman responded with "tofu." I said, "I know it has tofu, but does it have any sort of sauce, or vegetables? How is it prepared?" And the woman said, "it's fried tofu put on vegetable." I said, " okay, is there any sort of sauce on it?" To which she screamed, "WHAT? It's brown sauce." I asked her what was in the brown sauce, specifically whether there is any sort of fish sauce added into the brown sauce (as it's a very popular ingredient in Chinese food sauces, and I cannot eat fish products, and I told her as such), and she proceeded to scream at me that she doesn't know because she doesn't make it, and when I asked her to please ask, she said "no one is going to tell you what's in it or how it's made." I'm thinking - I'm not trying to steal your recipe! I just want to make sure I won't get sick or have a reaction by eating this. The interaction continued with her yelling at me, and I gave up. I have lived here for three years and have always loved ordering from China Cafe. As someone who rarely eats out due to funds and allergies/dietary restrictions, this restaurant was one of the few who always had my business. The one time I want to try something new and ask what is in it, I'm ostracized for it. China Cafe has definitely lost...
Read moreIf you order online from the menu, you should realize that you will only have lists, not photos of the specific dishes or brief descriptions, so even if something like fish is labeled "crispy," you can count on it to be drenched in either soy sauce, a thin sugary syrup, or sitting atop vegetables with a corn starch/soy sauce mess that renders the fish quite the opposite of crisp: gummy! Even if you call and ask someone about the so-called Crispy Fish before ordering, you will be told it's fried whitefish, yet the cash register receipt will read, "Crisp Red Snapper," and I would never purposely order red snapper, an unsustainable fish. Even so, it is NOT "crisp." Neither is Coconut Shrimp crisp with actual coconut on top, but has more of that horrid sugary syrup (with a smell that might be slightly indicative of coconut flavoring) ladled all over it. Most of the container space will be taken up by fried dough strips. If you like Chinese/Asian food and have eaten and enjoyed it in many places, you will consider China Cafe's offerings to be not just mediocre, but poor indeed. While Flowood has no restaurants that deliver other than this one and several pizza restaurants, cooking at home is preferable. At least you won't throw good money away on bad food that ends up in the...
Read moreI should have taken heed to the customer's review that reported that she fell I'll from food poisoning after eating here. I knew better when I walked into this sketchy environment. This was the absolute worse Chinese food I've ever eaten in my life!!!! They should close this place down...ASAP!!! Word of advice: LOCALS, STICK TO ICHABAN!!! It may cost more, but I'd rather pay a bit more for quality...especially with the food that you fuel your body with. From the incompetent girl who took my order to the sketchy guy that was eating in who appeared to be a customer but walked freely to and fro behind the counter and back into the kitchen. If he was a part of staff, it sure didn't appear to be dressed accordingly with the shorts and muscle short he had on along with his tattoos that were exposed. Finally, the sketchy cooks that surfaced from the back on top of all of that were all red flags enough for me to run for the hills!!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!! The $8 plus would have def been put to better use in my gas tank. I'm sitting here now feeling queazy as I type this with a bubbly stomach...smh! An entire...
