So right from the beginning, I think the location is a little weird. It's attached to a gas station and you can't even tell from the road that the restaurant exist. When we walked in the waiter seemed nice and sat us down immediately. Also, got us our drinks in a timely matter. However, from there it all went down hill. Some of us wanted to order their "dosa specialties" which was highlighted on the menu and we were told that they don't have that set up yet. Bummer! When it came time to order, the waiter was rushing us to order, apparently they were trying to close early because of the weather but they never mentioned that to us until he said we already closed our doors for tonight. So we ordered your typical vegetarian dishes you would find at most Indian restaurants. I ordered mine to be spicy and it came out overly sweet. That was the problem with a couple of the people's dishes at my table. My friend ordered a samosa chaat that was priced at $2.95 on the menu however we were charged $5.95. When I asked what seems to be the problem they said it's a mistake on the menu. The samosa by itself is $2.95 but the chaat is extra. We were never told that from the beginning and they did not want to apologize or give us some money back. The shahi paneer, most Indians know it has an orange color to it, but ours was green and had a weird sweet taste to it. Lastly, they didn't know how to split checks, which was questionable since after all it's a business. Also, some of us paid with cash and didn't receive change back, they just took it as tip. I'm really disappointed with this experience because I expected more.
Helpful tips: If you are starting a restaurant, please have the menu perfected before you open the freaking place. (that's just common sense) Don't open until you have everything ready and available that you advertise on the menu. If you are going to close early at least let the customers know ahead of time and not try to rush them. Put a sign on the door or something. Lastly, learn proper business etiquette, if something is incorrect then respond properly because your customers are...
Read moreLet me start off by saying, I'm no Indian food expert. Mostly what I eat, I compare it to the flavors I'm used to tasting in Little India in California.
We desperately needed an Indian restaurant on this side of the city. There's only one in Jackson and in Clinton, so I've been more than exited to get one 5 minutes away! The restaurant is conjoined to a gas station, but it definitely isn't gas station food or a fast food joint. It's a nice sized dine-in restaurant.
The buffet is pretty limited with about 9 options. 3 were chicken, the rest was rice and all veggie dishes. I was looking forward to at least one paneer or goat/lamb dush, which they didn't have offered. When I asked, they said the buffet menu changes daily and they will be offering it eventually.
The tandoori was very well seasoned, the chicken curry wasn't as creamy as what I'm used to. It reminded me more of a Karahi chicken which I love! The chicken marsala was a tad sweeter, reminded me of the one at Spice Avenue, which is from another region of India, so the spices are slightly different. In the end it's all preference on what spices you prefer more. The chicken dishes were nicely cooked down.
Service was a tad slow, but they just opened and still trying to get into the rhythm of things...so we completley understand. I'd be back to try the paneer, because I so crave paneer anything! Lunch is $10.99, doesn't include a drink, but they offer garlic naan during the buffet, most places only offers...
Read moreMe and my gf went there to eat and she does NOT like spicy dishes so I asked the young guy about Chicken Pakora and he said it would be OK. I ordered a dish of mashed chicken, peas, onion, garlic and ginger. And Paneer Naan. The Chicken Pakora was an appetizer and he said free rice. He popped down 2 bottles of water which we didn't order but we were not offered any other drink. After 30 minutes we finally got food(we are alone in the restaurant) The Chicken was too spicy and the rice was dry but he never checked on us. The other dish with the chicken and peas was ok. We never got refills on Naan bread as the (non related) Clinton location or fix the rice. We sat there and finally I asked for a Togo box. He got up from listening to TIk tok or whatever and plopped 2 boxes down. He NEVER brought a bill so we went to the counter and he charged us 31.45. I don't see what my gf paid but she was just so ready to leave after the poorest service we have had. She is a server BTW and a good one to boot. I told her that he overcharged us like $10. Well I called him and he said he was outside and he would call us back. Well... He never did and I tried to call him again and he hung up or blocked me . Called my Indian friend and he was embarrassed by his performance. Bad name for the Indian community.. We will be visiting soon to discuss...
