Big Dave's Cheesesteaks — Restaurant in Forest Park

I recently visited Big Dave's Cheesesteak at their new location in Forest Park, a spot I've been eager to try for months. While my experience was mixed, there were some definite highlights.

Parking and Location: One of the first things I appreciated was the ample free parking available. Although the parking wasn't directly adjacent to the restaurant, it was still convenient and easy to find a spot.

Atmosphere: The establishment itself is quite small and not particularly exciting in terms of decor. Unfortunately, there was a noticeable fly issue during my visit, which detracted from the overall cleanliness and comfort of the dining area.

Service and Wait Time: Upon arrival, we placed our order immediately. However, the preparation time was longer than I anticipated. On the bright side, when the food did arrive, it was piping hot and freshly made.

Food Quality: The highlight of my visit was definitely the food. I ordered the Dave's Beef cheesesteak with fries, and both were delicious. The cheesesteak was flavorful and satisfying, living up to the hype that had made me want to visit in the first place. The fries complemented the meal well, adding to the overall positive culinary experience.

Value for Money: While the taste and quality of the food were impressive, I found the prices to be on the higher side. This might deter me from making frequent visits, even though I was pleased with my meal.

Overall: Big Dave's Cheesesteak offers a tasty cheesesteak that is worth trying, especially if you're in the area. However, the combination of a longer wait time, higher prices, and a less-than-ideal dining environment might make it a one-time visit for some. Despite these drawbacks, the quality of the food itself was undeniably good, and I left satisfied with my meal.

Travelling through we decided to stop at Dave's, and MY! MY! MY! are we happy that we did. When we walked in the young lady that served us gently asked me if I was a mother. I replied, "yes," with a smile, she replied, "Happy Mother's Day, I'll be right back." She walked away to retrieve what happens to be one of my favorite flowers, and just happen my favorite color. She then told us of the special treat that I would receive and I must say this was a pleasant surprise. Sometimes small things make all of the difference and giving back to a patron in this manner is admirable. The young lady that served was kind and patient, as this was our first, but definitely not the last, visit. She took time to show us what was offered, she asked about add-ons, and called our order back to us. The most helpful thing she did was point to everything that she mentioned and gave us time to read for ourselves. The customer service she provided was top notch and we could not have been more pleased with how polite and patient she was. We are not an elderly couple, but we were newbies. Between the taste of the food and the customer service that this young lady provided, we will return when passing through the area.

I ordered the Philly Chicken Combo, which came with fries and a drink. My husband ordered the Philly Cheesesteak Combo, which came with fries and a drink as well. We also enjoyed one chicken egg roll, and 1 buffalo chicken egg roll of which both were delicious. Additionally the dipping sauce was tasty and the fries that came with the meals were not at all salty, something each of us appreciated.

Dave, you have an amazing front of the house worker, I do not know the young lady's name, but she is has beautiful dark skin, and if I remember correctly she had braces. In our opinion, she deserves recognition because as stated, she went above and beyond to assist us with our order.

I highly recommend this restaurant as one of the places that should be on your list to eat. On August 3, 2025 @ 4:25 PM, I placed my first order at Big Dave’s Cheesesteaks at the Jonesboro Road location. I only heard about Big Dave’s restaurants this year, and I placed it on my list of restaurants to try. I’m so glad I did! I ordered the regular beef sandwich and made it a combo. So I got a sandwich, fries, and a drink. I asked for a side of lettuce and tomatoes for my sandwich. I wanted to try it with and without, to see what it’d taste like. I also got a couple of mayonnaise and ketchup packets. The fries were crisp, well seasoned, hot and delicious. For their drinks, the restaurant carries Pepsi products. The bread on the sandwich was good, the steak cooked to perfection, and plenty of cheese. I throughly enjoyed eating the sandwich both with and without the added lettuce and tomatoes. It was delicious! 😋

The staff is friendly, helpful, and fast with the delivery of food. It’s an open kitchen display, so you are able to see them prepare your food. They do wear hairnets and cooking gloves. Quinton J. waited on me. He politely took my order. He was so kind, patient, understanding, and very helpful. I explained to him that it was my first time ever coming to the restaurant and my first time trying the food. He told me what his favorite sandwiches are. He gave me time to look at the menu without feeling rushed or pressured. He answered all of my questions. Before giving me my bag of food, he made sure my order was correct.
