I ordered the Souvlaki Gyro, it was a generous portion of moist and delicious, lamb meatballs in a warm, perfect pita. It was smothered in tzatziki and with sliced tomatoes, red onions, cucumbers, and lettuce. Get plenty of napkins and enjoy the sandwich. The meal comes with the gyro, a side, and a drink. Cafe Athens has 10 different Gyro sandwiches that include the lamb, beef, chicken, falafel and a vegetarian option. You also have a choice of several sauces that include Tzatziki Sauce , Spicy BBQ, or Gyros Hot & Spicy with Jalapenos and Tabasco. The sides includes the option of french fries, wedge potatoes, spinach rice, pasta orzo, pasta salad, mixed veggies, or a greek side salad. I ordered the pasta salad which was a rotini pasta with sliced black olives and feta cheese. I don't love olives, but the feta was delicious. The orzo pasta is kind of a soup and my husband said it was really good. My niece ordered a chicken platter and it looked like half of a chicken, shredded with pita, lettuce, and feta cheese. The service was good and prices were reasonable for the portion size. If you like Greek food, try Cafe Athens. They have a couple of locations in Northern Colorado. My sister placed their order online and it was ready when they arrived. We ordered at the counter and service was...
Read more"I loves me some Greek food!" My wife and I had our first experience at Café Athens last night, and both of us walked away fairly impressed. One of my biggest complains about some Greek eating experiences is that some tzatziki sauce is a little too "tangy" for my taste, and some restaurants seem to pour it on like it's going out of style...but that's not the case at Café Athens. It was GOOD tzatziki sauce and you get to control the amount that goes all over your food. The meats are amazing, the potato wedges are good, and the gallo pie they have for dessert, might just put me in an early grave. Portion size is good for the price. Café Athens seems to be a kind of in-between restaurant...you can come sit for a full blown meal, you can stop in for a quick sandwich, stop in for drinks and/or dessert, or just pick up something to go...and they seemed to cater to all four options pretty well. Sandwiches seemed to be around $6-8 while full dinners are around $8-15.
The décor is charming, with a lot of homage paid to Greek art and architecture inside the restaurant. The staff always seems to be pretty darn friendly and efficient. Oh, and Café Athens' back door leads to a gorgeous patio with a large...
Read moreDude where's my sauce? Let me start by saying that I love Cafe Athens! I've been eating/ordering here for years. I often order a pound of delicious gyros meat, and have dozens of times in the past. Each time, including last week, the order came with 4 small cups of tzatziki sauce. But unfortunately I had a disappointing experience today. My friend picked up my order, including the pound of gyros meat, and this time no sauce; and as any gyros fan knows, you gotta have the tzatziki! So as my food got cold I had to make the 20 minute round trip to go get the sauce. No big deal, it happens. However on arrival there was no apology, I was just informed that "the owner doesn't allow us to include the sauce anymore". While I understand this business decision, I would ask that you please inform your customers somehow! Perhaps updating your menu to note this change, lest you disappoint any further longtime customers. Also, your online ordering menu through DoorDash does not include a section for sauce orders, so if I must pay separately for sauce, I am currently unable to do...
