Was craving sushi last night and went with my husband for his first time there (might be his list...more on that later) and my second time. The first time I came was with a big group over a year ago and I remember enjoying it because I ordered the udon soup and a roll (but I don’t remember which one). This is why I wanted to come back here yesterday.
We ordered three rolls: the resolution roll, some like it hot roll, and the Roulette roll. All were pretty tasty, but I’m taking off a star for two reasons: 1) the rolls weren’t wrapped tightly enough so the bottoms would fall apart the second I picked them up with my chopsticks. I went to Sushi Jeju just for an appetizer the night before and this did not happen with my friend’s roll that I tried. The presentation could have been a little better too... for how expensive the rolls are here, it felt like these 3 rolls were all just thrown together on a plate and kind of chunked together. But that is more of a minor point.
So yeah... not a fun way to end the night. Maybe the roulette roll needs an additional description of what peppers are used in it. We will also be more cautious with spicy foods for my husband now. I think he learned a hard lesson.... and since we’re not sure whether it was the spice or his oddly sensitive stomach that cause this to happen, I can’t justify taking off more stars.
Overall, I was little underwhelmed by the sushi this time. With food, drinks, and taxes/tip, we spent like $100 and didn’t feel like we got that much value out of it. We were also seated by the walkway to the restrooms, which ended up being a high traffic area (my husband told me to just let it go since he was fine with it...but that still bugs me). We wanted an inside table due to the smoke levels outside. I just felt like there were many other table choices than the one we got.
4 stars may seem generous but I’ve pretty much only complained so far. I do like the decor, lighting, and atmosphere of Suehiro! Service was good. It was easy to call and reserve a table just 20 min before we got there. Love the huge menu and variety of options. The sushi was still pretty tasty and fresh, so I would still go back again to give it another chance. Not sure if my husband will though.

Read moreThis has been my favorite place for sushi for the past 3 years that I’ve lived in Fort Collins. I’ve actually never tried another place because this was go-to. At one point we came in 2-3 times a week because we were introducing our friends here. I’m not sure what has happened recently but the service has gone down hill. My boyfriend always orders his sushi with a heat level of 4x… not once but 2 times the server has gotten mine and his confused and they gave me the 4x. I can’t handle much heat, I ended up having horrible anxiety that almost lead to a panic attack. At that point we decided to stop coming here. We finally came again and the service was terrible. We got our soup & salad after about 15-20 min of sitting there after putting in our sushi order. The host had to bring it and she said she was helping our waiter out. Our edamame was over cooked, I ordered a drink and the waiter forgot to put it because after I asked the host about it, I seen it go through the bar printer. Then they brought 2 of the 3 rolls and said one would be coming out shortly, almost 20 minutes later I finally go tell another waitress to take it off my ticket because I didn’t see my waiter since he last brought my drink. Then he brought it to our table.. but at that time we had to ask for it to go. I believe the manger was drinking on his shift, I thought he was a customer but then shortly realized he was a chef because very loud and clear he fired one of the chefs to where everybody could hear it. That should have definitely been done in private. The entire sushi bar was filled with clients because for some reason they were not setting anybody past the middle host stand for the last 45 minutes we were there. I noticed they were cleaning the floor (somebody must have split something) but the table was nearly dirty from the time we got there until after we left.
I don’t know what has happened to this place, but I know I won’t...
Read moreAs an Asian person who's eaten lots of sushi and Japanese food, this is maybe a 2.5 star restaurant. If I had no prior/limited exposure to Asian food, I'd maybe give it a 4 star. Service is a bit slow (time between things being served was definitely dragged out; it was a Saturday night) but overall fine and pleasant but the food... sake sashimi is always hit or miss. My husband ordered one serving (2 pieces) and one piece was stringy and hard to chew, the other one was smooth and silky as expected. I ordered their beef udon noodle and it was just terrible. The only redeeming factor was the noodles had a good texture. The "veggies" that came with the udon consisted of one large barely-cooked floret of broccoli, 2 bites of over-cooked cabbage, and 2 slivers of onion. Lots of beef but they did not clean the broth so there were lots of bits of beef fat/blood floating all over the top, which is incredibly unappetizing and a testament to the little care they give to their cooking methods. The beef had no other flavor other than whatever the broth tasted like, which was just one-note: salty. And the beef was just well-done beef chunks inconsistently sized cooked in the broth. Made the broth overly beef-y tasting. Another annoying thing about their menu options is the number of rolls with cream cheese and/or jalapeno peppers. Those are not traditional Japanese fillings, which is fine, but to have those ingredients in nearly every roll on their menu is maddening. Also, why does this place use disposable chopsticks yet have cloth napkins?? You are an Asian restaurant: Please get some real chopsticks. I brought my own chopsticks to avoid the disposable bamboo ones that are heavily bleached and splinter-y and simply wasteful. Bottom line: you can get better quality sushi at...
