Unfortunate Decline in Service and Standards. I’ve tried to give this place the benefit of the doubt. The food is good, the location is convenient, and I genuinely want to support a local business. But what happened today — and frankly, what’s been happening for a while now — shows a serious lack of professionalism and leadership.
I showed up a full hour before closing on a Sunday, intending to grab food before heading to the gym next door. Instead, I was told the kitchen was already closed because the staff “needed to clean.” Not because they were out of food. Not because of equipment issues. Just because they didn’t feel like working through posted business hours.
This isn’t the first time either — last time I came in, they shut down the kitchen 15 minutes before closing. Annoying, but forgivable. Today, though, was something else. To look at a case full of bagels and be told the only thing available is a toasted bagel with cream cheese while the team complains about being "busy” earlier — that’s not just bad service, that’s poor business. Google analytics say different. I bet the numbers in the computer reflect it.
If I were the owner, I’d be furious. You’re paying rent, utilities, and payroll in what’s likely a high-cost location, only to have your team actively turn away paying customers. In the 20 minutes I sat nearby, I watched multiple groups walk in, then leave empty-handed. That’s not “busy” — that’s lost revenue.
Here’s a thought: if you want to make more money, try staying open the hours you advertise. Train your staff to take pride in their work instead of cutting corners. being told of staffing issues while looking at four or five people behind the counter & closing the kitchen, And maybe, if you’re really trying to level up, look into your product — things like filtering and balancing your water (like the New York bagel shops do) could take your quality from decent to outstanding. But none of that matters if your doors are figuratively closed an hour before your sign says they should be open.
I won’t be returning. If management would like to discuss how to run a business efficiently, motivate staff, and stop losing money by choice — I’m the guy with the curly handlebar mustache next door at the gym every day. I’d be more than happy to have a conversation as I AM a business consultant and would love to show you the short comings I've noticed above and beyond what's listed above. Would love to help you fix them. Aas this started as me just wanting to come in get food and give you money. Or I can buy you out and show you how it’s done when you want to come in at 1:00 p.m. on a Sunday and get a steak egg and cheese bagel 😉😘 (that your staff previously told me they couldn't do. But I made sure I showed them how to do that already)
And for full clarity — I DO NOT WORK AT OR AFFILIATE WITH THE GYM NEXT DOOR. I simply WORK OUT...
Read moreThe bagels really are delicious but the problem I had was I ordered six asiago bagels to go. I also ordered two breakfast sandwiches too. When I got home I noticed that my asiago had poppy seeds on the bagels. And one had poppy and sesame seeds on it. My big problem is it should be posted or told this is possible that seeds can be on bagels. Because apparently I called to ask to speak to a manager or owner and I was told they just left. The girl asked if she could help. I explained what happened and she raised her voice a little telling me what do I expect we make a LOT of bagels so of course this will happen. I comly said well someone she be telling us because there are a lot of people who can not eat seeds like me. I don't think the manager or owner who be happy on how my phone call was dealt with. My concern is, but trying to think logically, I never received a phone call back from anyone. I'm a positive person so I'm trying to believe that NO one received my message in management. I do love you breakfast sandwiches but I also know your bagels can also contain seeds. If this was just a one time experience I would love to know. I will now always have to check the bottom of my bagel. And if it is a common thing please post a sign. And maybe teach employees how to be polite on a phone call. Thank you for...
Read moreI just stopped into this bagel shop and flies were everywhere. I requested my bagel from the rack in the back because I saw flies on the ones up front. The person helping me stated that they are all the same . I had to insist that I have one from the back. Then when she went to the back she told the lady who I know now as the owner what I said and her response was flies are everywhere, they’re in our water. I later ask the owner to speak with her but she brushed me off saying she had an egg that she needed to flip but when she went to the back she put a bagel in the toaster. She then walked back out and said how can I help you. I said never mind and walked out to never return. This business needs to assure that customers health are not at risk by flies laying eggs and pooping on the bagels and pastries being uncovered. All food needs to be protected. I will also report this to department of health. But I will never go back. It’s a simple fix to cover the food from flies and open air. I am a local business owner and have been coming here a while now but I won’t be back after this. When people put ego and money over peoples lives I refuse to support and I’ll let everyone know...
