This was serendipity at work. We didn't know the neighborhood, just drove by and was intrigued; a buffet restaurant at a strip mall... Partner went in to investigate, then reported that it had lots of choices. Ever skeptic of AYCA, especially when the price looks too good to be true, I went in with no expectations. It was truly surprising to see the large number of options. One long counter for cold (salad etc), 3 long counters of hot mains, 1 table of soup and carbs, 1 long counter of various type of sushi rolls, 1 long table of desserts, and most astonishing, another one with seafood including butterfly shrimps, large prawns, mussel, and (what looks like) langostines. There was even a cut of roast beef and a filet of salmon. One cannot eat that much but the ones I tried tasted pretty good. The kitchen staff clearly knows how to cook.
Unfortunately, it was a Monday night after the holiday. The dinning room was almost empty. So, the less popular items have been sitting on the steam table for a while and past the optimum eating time. I was wondering how they did not skimp on the offerings on such a quiet day.
When the server overheard my comment about the crab has dried out, she went and got the kitchen to make a fresh batch! I didn't realized it until I tried a second piece that was so much better.
This is not a fancy place so one can't expect high end restaurant type of service. But it is impressive how they are committed to be consistent with their food (risking lost and waste) and try hard to give customers a good experience.
So many restaurants these days just push assembled dishes with little or no cooking (salad, tacos) to save paying for real trained chefs. Any place like this one that employs people who actually can cook deserve dinners' support.
I was told that that during the busy holiday, the line up was right out of the door. I would love to go back at more popular times to taste more. At their price point (couple of burgers), it is value just to sample a few items. Venturing off the beaten track can be risky but this time it...
Read moreI really don’t know where to begin with this review. I came to this establishment with my two friends around 7:45 PM on 3/30/23 to grab a quick bite before our movie at the AMC nearby. In the beginning, the staff seemed like nice individuals and were tentative to customer needs. That’s where the good ends. It cost each of us 16 dollars before a tip, and there was little to no food to choose from up on the buffet. The hibachi tasted alright, but half of the ingredients weren’t available to choose from due to them not restocking. The food on the actual buffet was no different, and honestly looked like what was still there had been sitting there for an eternity. It made me wonder if I would fall ill after eating it to be completely honest. It didn’t as I am writing this review in the morning, but nonetheless myself and my friends were very disappointed in the quality of food this place had to offer. After we were done, we proceeded to the register to pay, and had to wait for an attendent/hostess to ring us in for about 5 minutes. We were half tempted to just leave since no one would come help us pay, but we endured the time and someone finally came from the back and rung us in. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. Not quite sure if this is due to an understaffing issue, or a lack of passion from the individuals in the back making the food. Unfortunately though due to this experience, my friends and I will most likely never make this a destination to eat at again. There are plenty of options considering we’re in a city filled with restaurants that have better quality food and more...
Read more1st of all to folks posting negative feedback on a business due to food not being fresh when you walk in the door at a big buffet as this one at an hour prior to closing! You need to be checked for a common sense deficiency Seriously! On my visit the food was great. I tried foods I normally do not care for due to the fact of my postings of eateries for others. If you do not try it all then how can you accurately rate the food or establishment? Some foods as mentioned I do not eat where actually petty good. The help was kind and efficient. My only issue was the cheesecake was not as cool as I'd liked but it was still good! Drinks were kept up with. I will gladly return. My wife and son both agree the visit was worth the effort. When reading feedback on all establishments use your own judgement as I did. I read and seen the negatives to be mostly a visitor issue and not the establishment especially the one I seen on someone complaining on the food when they went at an hour prior to closing! I guess they need to cook a ton of fresh food and feed you and waist the remainder? When I post I post in a positive manner. If you've not visited this establishment and you like a mix of foods then you sure need to try out Great Wall!...
