I so wanted to love this place after reading rave reviews of the food, and I was prepared for it to be pricey.
But, what I found was pricey food that fell very far short of my expectations and left me patently unsatisfied.
The good: From what I could see, it was very clean. I didn't see the kitchen, tho.
They had a wide menu.
The person at the register was friendly.
The not-so-great: The prices are extremely high, compared to other Chinese restaurants in Fort Wayne. I expected them to be high, but I also expected correspondingly better food. That was not the case. I paid nearly $40 for one app and one entree, with chicken.
I ordered the pan-fried potstickers w/ pork and onion. These were about the same as what I have had at several other local places, and are likely frozen and not prepared in house. But, these were more like steamed and not browned even a little, as I would expect pan-fried potstickers to be. Oh, and the price tag - it was double what I would pay for the same things at China House on E. State St.
For my entree, I ordered chicken w/ basil and garlic. This also was not as expected. I chose this because of photos of this dish in other reviews. In those photos, it was loaded with Thai basil leaves and veggies, including peppers.
I found exactly 3 partial basil leaves in my entire dish. The chicken was mostly dark meat, no biggie, but it was loaded with fat and gristle. At $17.99 I expect them to have cut the fat out. The garlic was in whole cloves and it didn't seem any had been crushed, so the flavor was only prevalent if I chomped on a whole clove - instead of laced throughout the dish. There were no veggies, save the garlic and 2 pieces of water chestnut, and inexplicably - iceberg lettuce. The brown sauce it was in was interesting, but not spicy at all, and I asked for medium spicy.
I had asked for their homemade hot mustard, and that was excellent.
The reason I ordered Chinese food this evening is that I wanted veggies (that I didn't chop or cook, haha). I was horribly disappointed in this. My bad for not specifically asking what was included in this dish. I ordered based on other customers photos in online reviews.
I don't know if I caught them on a bad night, or not. It's unlikely I'll try again, since the food was sub-par and the prices...
Read moreLet me preface this by saying that the food here is delicious. BUT they mess up your order constantly, so you never get to enjoy the food you want and ordered. We always get carry out here. The same person takes our order over the phone every time. Every time, it gets messed up. From the wrong appetizer, to the wrong rice selection, to the wrong heat level. Today, we tried once again to order carryout, after our order being messed up twice before. The food is so good, we gave it another shot. When I was ordering, the man taking my order asked how hot we wanted our food. I told him medium and mild. He said “hot, okay”. I replied “No no no, not hot, mild. Sorry, I need it mild.” He said okay and moved on. I also confirmed fried rice for both entrees. We got the food, and it was white rice instead of fried for one entree. More importantly, both of our entrees were HOT. So hot, that I ate 2 bites and had to throw mine away and order pizza. If this were cheap Chinese food, I wouldn’t care. I would even expect this. But Wu’s is EXPENSIVE. We paid $42 dollars for 2 entrees and some soup, only for them to be inedibly hot (even after correcting the employee on the phone) and missing our fried rice. Let me say again, this is the THIRD time this has happened. I gave them three shots, and here we are. $60 later (the cost of the inedible Wu’s and then the pizza I had to order after) I’m FINALLY getting to eat some dinner (pizza) at 10:30 at night. We won’t order Wu’s again. No matter how good the food is, it’s not worth never being able to actually eat the food, and flushing $40-$50 down the drain every time we...
Read moreMy wife and wanted good Chinese food for dinner and were not disappointed by Wu's. We arrived about 6:30 and were promptly escorted to a table. Our server appeared rapidly and took our drink order. She returned and I asked what she recommended. She said that Three Ingredient Taste, General Tso, and Hot Burned Pork were very popular. We ordered the pan fried potstickers as an appetizer and Three Ingredient Taste and Garlic Chicken as our entrees. The Potstickers came out with little pots of soy and chili sauce. To say that they were delicious would be an understatement. Perfectly cooked with ground pork and fried just right. We just finished these tasty bites when the entrees arrived. The Three Ingredient Taste has chicken, beef and shrimp with broccoli in Chef's special brown sauce. I got mine with fried rice. I usually get fried to add flavor because normally I need to add Soy Sauce to bring it up to my liking. Not this time, not at all. It had a wonderful blend of beef, chicken and shrimp, big fat shrimp too. The sauce was great, not overpowering, just right. My wife got the Garlic Chicken with white rice. Generous portions of vegetables and a melt in your mouth chicken. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable. The atmosphere at Wu's is very nice and clean. The server mentioned that covid hit them very hard and their dine in business has suffered. This is, IMHO the best sit down Chinese...
