Been coming to Mister Coney for years. It's definitely not Coney Island, but a good second string. Today, however, we were MOST disappointed. We stopped in for a late lunch - hoping to grab a couple coneys, a couple bowls of chili and drinks. We went in and found our usual table to be available - corner table (southeast corner). Sat down, and while at least two employees looked over at us, at least one was a waitress, as she had straws in her pocket. There were only 4 other tables in use. Three of them had food, and the other had drinks. We waited about 5 to 8 minutes with no one approaching us for our drink order, yet a couple employees walked around, checking other tables, only looking our way a few times. We weren't holding any menus. Instead, we were looking around the restaurant hoping someone was going to take our order. After nearly 10 minutes, a woman and a child came in and sat down. Almost instantly, a waitress approached them and took their drink order. I told the wife, "That's enough... we're leaving". We got up and as we walked past the cash register, a young girl said "Have a great day". I said "We would have if we'd gotten served... We waited almost 10 minutes with no one coming to our table. Even though at least two of your girls looked our way, while walking around checking other tables who already had food and drinks, no one approached us. We decided it was time to go when two more people came in and were served right away". She just looked at us and smiled. It was my wife's birthday, and we were just spending the day together, hoping to grab a bite to eat. What a slap in the face. I could understand if they were busy, but with only 4 other tables... That's not an excuse. I felt we were shunned for some reason, like we weren't welcome. After visiting this hot dog stand for nearly 30 years, I doubt we'll go back. If we do, it will be a dog or two in the drive thru only. It's worth it to us to go downtown to Coney Island, even though Mister Coney is much...
Read moreMister Coney used to always be a hit, great food and great service. Recently the food is becoming a hit and miss. Sometimes the coney’s are great and sometimes they are not. Today our coney’s were not so good. The buns were not steamed and tasted like they were pulled right from the bag and there was less than half the amount of coney sauce as usual. Sometimes the chili cheese fries are amazing and other times the fries are not fully cooked or there isn’t as much chili and cheese on them as before. I made a comment to the cashier about our recent experience, there was no sorry to be said. What she did say was that the quality of the food depends on the cook…. I had hoped that mister coney had standards as a restaurant and that the standards was not decided on the cook. It should be the same experience each time and not depend on the cook… Unfortunately we will be taking a break from eating at mister coney for awhile, I hope they start consistently caring again at...
Read moreMy family lives in the area and I ALWAYS make it a point to visit Mr. Coney whenever I visit the Fort Wayne area (I live in Colorado). It has really been my favorite restaurant since the early 1970s!
I have always been pleased with the coneys - they are CONSISTENTLY the best coneys I have ever had! I have tried them at food trucks, etc, whenever there is a restaurant that has coneys at them and NO ONE has ever beaten Mr. Coney!
I went through the drive-thru last week while visiting the area. Caleb took my order and talked with me while Max made my coneys. They were the best I've ever had! I didn't even know that was possible! Both of them were friendly and went above and beyond during our short interaction. I don't know why I've never taken the time to do a review, but they made me want to do it! Keep up the great work! ...
