I absolutely love that this café opened up! The environment is very friendly and the cats are just adorable. However, there are a few things that can be improved upon. I do wish there were more seating options in the cafe area besides the tiny stools and the brick hard bench along the wall. Maybe add pillows or mix match chairs scattered about. I also didn't care for the few drinks I've tried so far and there aren't many options for food either. Maybe I'm just not getting the right thing but so far It's been ok.
The cat room operation system is also a bit wonky. There are large amounts of people and sometimes children scheduled to go into the cat room constantly and the cats are clearly tired. Some people think its a good idea to bring a school of kids into the cat room and let them chase the cats around until they are exhusted. When I got a chance to finally go in the cats were all tuckered out and not trying to be bothered. It's not good for the kitties and the people who paid to hang out with them. Although most people are understanding it could still be worked on. It's also a bit inconvenient that if you're looking to adopt you aren't allowed to hold or pick up the cats. It's hard to read a cats personality or temperament by just looking at them sleep.
The cafe has only been open a short time so it's ok to have a few bumps in the road. It's still a great place to visit and you should definitely check them out. There's something there for everyone and they may add things as they go! Check em out and enjoy the environment.
Edit: It's been about 6 months since opening and I went back in to see if anything has changed. The answer is not really. As a person with anxiety I go to the cat cafe because I want to chill out in a relaxing environment. I feel weird staring into the small windows trying to see cats but end up staring at another person who's just trying to enjoy their session in the cat room. I ended up adopting a cat from here, who I love, but I did feel very pressured at the time to adopt and with my anxiety I felt like I couldn't say no. I don't have a problem with him but he does have a very different temperament than when he was in the cafe.
The last couple drinks I've gotten were really bitter and tangy. I got the affagato last time thinking it was ice cream and espresso mixed or blended but it was just a scoop of ice cream in a cup with hot espresso shots on top. I also wish they had more food options then dessert. The hard rolls aren't really anything, it's just bread with spreads. I get that they have a German theme going on but I'm sure there's got to be more options in German cafes.
I say all this not to say the place is bad because it's not. It's still nice to see a cat cafe open, cats finding forever homes and they're making the most out of the location. I know they're still fairly new and small so its no big deal just some...
Read moreI had the absolute pleasure of visiting the Black Forest Cat Café two days in a row first, just to explore the space, and second, to adopt the sweetest orange-spotted cat, Sanders (now affectionately named Mr. Cheezit). From the moment I walked in, the environment was warm, inclusive, and welcoming. Not to mention the coffee is absolutely to die for!
On my first visit, the standout was Sairy, who went above and beyond to make me feel at home. She was incredibly helpful, even climbing a ladder to gently wake Sanders so I could meet him. Her kindness and attentiveness made a lasting impression.
When I returned the next day, the staff remembered me which was such a heartwarming touch. It truly felt like coming back to a place where both people and cats are deeply cared for. That day, with Sam’s help (and a few treats), we coaxed Sanders down from his perch and made it official I adopted him! The team provided everything I needed, including all of his medical information, a cozy blanket, wet and dry food to help with his transition, and a little goodie bag (sadly, not for me, but full of treats for Mr. Cheezit).
Now, over a week later, Mr. Cheezit has completely settled in. He refused to be kept behind closed doors and immediately bonded with our other cat, Buffalo Sauce. They’ve been inseparable ever since playing, cuddling, eating, and keeping us endlessly entertained.
Thanks to the wonderful staff at the Black Forest Cat Café, these two now have a lifetime of love and companionship ahead. I couldn’t be more grateful.
For picture sake, Buffalo is the almost all orange, and Mr.Cheezit is the...
Read moreMy first time visiting and it was better than I could have imagined! I didn't realize how much room there was, both in the cafe, and in the enclosed cat area. I immediately felt welcomed and accepted (thanks to the pride merch and rainbows all over!). The employees were so friendly and helpful. A lot of the cats were napping but there was a playful kitten and it was so relaxing to just be able to see all the cats and see how at home they seem to be. The whole setup is incredible. There is so much room for the cats to play, have enough stimulation and things to climb, along with air filters/purifiers and benches and tables and chairs for people. You can tell these cats are well-cared for and loved, and even if you just stay in the cafe, there are plenty of spaces to view the cats while enjoying the atmosphere. They also have such fun merch like socks, earrings, stickers, shirts, etc. I'd recommend the iced chai (served in a glass, that you can bring into the cat enclosure). Can't wait to come here again! Thanks for making such a safe, happy place available to all and to provide an awesome opportunity for cats to be adopted. This was literally better...
