Lunch at Abuelo’s Mexican Restaurant - A Pleasant Surprise
After wrapping up our errands at Hulen Mall, my husband and I, driven by a spontaneous hunger, decided to try out Abuelo’s Mexican Restaurant. The decision, influenced by the positive reviews we read, proved to be a delightful one.
Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly and our preference for a table in the bar area was graciously accommodated. The service started on a high note with our waitress, Vanessa, who was not only extremely pleasant but also instrumental in guiding my menu choice - a touch I particularly appreciated.
My husband kicked things off with an El Jefe Margarita. The drink, which I admittedly sampled more than once, was a refreshing twist on the classic margarita, enhanced by a grilled orange slice and Agavero Orange Liqueur - a delightful deviation from the norm.
Before delving into our main courses, we indulged in the chips and salsa trio. The Salsa Tropical, with its unique blend of tomatillos and pineapples, was particularly delightful. The Salsa Especial packed a lot of flavors, and, finding the Salsa Roja a tad bland, I found myself mixing the two for a perfect balance.
For my meal, I opted for an appetizer as my entrée, choosing the Green Chile Quesadilla on Vanessa's recommendation (Thank you again, Vanessa). The blend of chiles, mushrooms, and onions was a flavorful journey, although a bit more cheese would have been welcome to balance the filling. My husband, meanwhile, settled on the Fajita Trio - a combination of Angus beef, chicken, and barbecue shrimp. The fajitas were satisfyingly good. However, there was a slight textural oddity with the beef, possibly due to the cut or the thin slicing, that felt unusual but didn't detract from the overall enjoyment of the meal.
Our lunch experience at Abuelo’s was marked by great service and good food. It stands out as an excellent choice for a casual meal, managing to deliver a satisfying dining experience without being overly pretentious. Abuelo’s, in our experience, handles the essentials of a good Mexican meal with commendable...
Read moreApproached the restaurant with a pick up order from door dash and was prompted told to go the bar. Waited for 5+ minutes and was never greeted or acknowledged. There were dirty plates and empty beer glasses spread across the counter. After some time, I got up and approached the Bar Tender at the POS and was told that the food would be out shortly. As I started walking back to my place with the dirty dishes, a customer questioned him with what I had asked. He told the customer that I’m with door dash and not a priority to him, then he joked about with the customers as they all started laughing.
I understand I’m not their top priority but I could’ve at least been given a hey or some kind of acknowledgment so I didn’t feel like fool waiting at bar. For all I know, that order could’ve been done and sitting under the bar the entire time I was waiting. I’ve been offered water or soda at other bars while WE ALL wait for the order to be finished. And so what was your priority, clearly it wasn’t dirty dishes that had been left there since I came in
I get back to my my chair and the guy next to me asked what happened because he could over hear everything that he said too. And it’s like that’s what happened, I wasn’t acknowledged and then made fun of when I did ask for help. I felt humiliated by the bar tender and left without the order.
PS- Your Bar Tenders need to shave or your next complaint is going to be a hair in someone’s drink.
Thanks for the memorable...
Read moreGreat Tex/Mex good value for the money, lunch and dinner served. March 18 2025, called in my first delivery order from abuelo's normally I go there and eat rather than have it delivered but I thought I tried delivery one time since the last time I was there which is about a year ago. They can change one thing and I think would be great and that's put a square piece of wax sandwich paper underneath the food being put into the cardboard trays that they use for delivery, it causes a problem due to the moisture wicking of the cardboard and it makes the enchiladas that I got stick to the cardboard and I just had to basically tear apart all my enchiladas to get at the dinner they wouldn't come out like they went on a normal plate. So avoid those if you're listening one square piece of wax paper inside the cardboard containers that you use for the dinners and taking dinner out would be a lot easier to put on a plate and or eat it won't get absorbed by the cardboard. Other than that it's very tasty dinner just like I ate there just the hot plates are missing haha LOL. I attached one photo from today which is the one that looks like a dog had been through the box ripping up the insides that's what your food looks like when it adheres to the cardboard and I'm sure it was used as an environmental effort to use degradable materials but it also degrades your dinner. 3/22/25 - management reached out an accepted my possible solution to the food adhering to the...
