Blue Mound Cafe is the kind of place that reminds you why diner-style comfort food will never go out of style. I stopped in recently and ordered the chicken fried steak with eggs and hashbrowns—and I’m still dreaming about it.
The chicken fried steak was downright legendary—perfectly crisp on the outside, juicy and tender inside, and smothered in creamy, peppered country gravy that tasted like it came straight from a Southern grandma’s kitchen. The eggs were cooked just the way I like them (they actually listened), and the hashbrowns were golden, crispy, and piping hot. Every bite was pure comfort.
The portions are generous, the service is warm and genuine, and there’s a laid-back, welcoming vibe that makes you want to linger over your coffee just a little longer. Read moreI love the food at Blue Mound better than the previous restaurant that was in that location. We go 2 or 3 times a week to Blue Mound on Vickery in Fort Worth and get great service. But one thing I really hate is you have to go to the counter to pay and they ask you how much tip to add. They should never put a customer in that position and make them feel pressured like I do. It needs to be a receipt that it's added to like 99% of places we eat. I hope they change it soon, it bothers me more and more everytime I go, so much that I leave thinking I have to find another place to have breakfast just to eliminate such an awkward, high pressure situation. Please change the way customers pay, I don't want to have to find another place to eat breakfast or lunch 3 times a week...

The pancakes were the best I’ve ever had, and that’s saying something as I’m 68 years old and I’ve had pancakes at nearly all the notable (and not so notable) breakfast places around the DFW area. The pancakes were plate-sized and had a dollop of real whipped butter in the center. I couldn’t finish both pancakes. The coffee was delicious and my cup was kept refilled. My waitress, Mona, was friendly and efficient. Final bill for short stack and coffee with tip and $.40 surtax for paying with CC was $13.89. I highly recommend you...
