Hole in the wall family place that offers authentic tex-mex at great value. Incredibly huge portions. Amazingly friendly service - the people here make you feel like you're part of the family. Food will fill you up and more. This place is frequented mostly by locals so you know it's good. :) Also they have homemade pies for dessert that sell out quickly. Worth braving a long walk through an empty and dodgy street to get here. The neighborhood is undergoing gentrification.

Jesus Family Restaurant is incredible! They WERE a BBQ restaurant pre pandemic. Now an amazing Mexican joint! They have been in business for 53 years. The 92 year old grandfather still in the back cooking!! Grandkids running the front. Went yesterday for the 1st time. I HAD THEIR AMAZING CHEESE ENCHILIADAS IN HOMEMADE CHILI SAUCE. Some of the best I've ever eaten! I'll definitely go back often. This is a hidden gem.

Overall 3 1/2 stars. BROWN CHILI & RICE IS THE REASON FOR LOW RATING. Ordered (TO GO) a Chicken Enchilada Dinner & Beef Enchilada Dinner with beef taco (included Rice, beans, salsa, chips & guacamole), also Peach & Cherry Cheese fried pies. I like the fact that nothing was real salty & you have the choice of adding salt yourself, if wanted. Makes this place a jewel to someone with a low salt diet. I personally don't want too much salt. The lady taking my order was nice. If I ever go back, it will probably be only to pick up a couple of homemade fried pies to go. ⭐⭐⭐ - CHICKEN ENCHILADAS - Good but not excellent. Good portions of chicken, large in size, tasted ok but couldn't really taste the chicken because of the Chili smothered on top, that tasted just like canned Wolf Chili??? When I ordered, I asked what kind of sauce & was told Chili...so I totally was thinking they meant green chili sauce..so I was surprised to see regular Brown Chili. I've heard that restaurants are improvising right now because of supply chain issues & maybe they "used" to use a different OR homemade Chili, idk since this was my first try, so I'm not sure if the current Brown Chili is actually canned Chili or not but it definitely doesn't taste homemade. IF they had used a homemade sour cream, Chili Verde sauce or even a traditional Red sauce, these Chicken enchiladas would probably get 5 stars! They have a whole lot of potential with a different sauce. ⭐⭐⭐ BEEF ENCHILADAS - Good but not excellent. Good ground beef portions, large in size. The Brown Chili (that tasted like canned Wolf Chili) tasted better with the beef enchiladas than the Chicken. IF the Chili was homemade, these Beef Enchiladas would probably get 5 stars! ⭐⭐⭐ BEEF TACO - Good but not excellent. Really had that homemade taste in a soft (slightly fried, semi hard) corn tortilla shell, which I loved, but the only reason I gave this 3 stars, is because the ground beef was lacking in flavor. The ground beef tasted plain, like it had no seasoning. Don't get me wrong! I did say it was good & it was. Maybe I'm just used to taco seasoning in my ground beef, but just a "little" taco seasoning OR a little crushed red pepper even, would have easily bumped my rating of this taco to 5 stars! Oh! how I wanted to give this 5 stars! ⭐ - RICE - It was "ok," fresh & seemed homemade but definitely lacked flavor, it was really bland & didn't seem to have any tomato taste like you would expect for Mexican rice. So even if you add a tad of salt to this, it would make it only slightly better to 2 stars. I actually quickly refreshed mine when I got home with a little tomato chicken bullion that made it taste better. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ REFRIED BEANS - Pretty good actually. I think they tasted homemade? ⭐⭐⭐⭐ GUACAMOLE - Pretty good! Nice & chunky, fresh & homemade. ⭐⭐⭐ CHIPS - Good but not excellent. I like that they were real thin. ⭐⭐⭐ SALSA - Good but not excellent. It was fairly hot (not too hot for me though) but seemed like it was missing something though..idk what. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - FRIED PIES - Excellent! Very large & price is very good for these too! Just $2.50 & worth every cent! My favorite of this meal. The pastry is definitely homemade & the filling seems to be too? They weren't real sweet, which is why I liked them so much, just the perfect level of sweet...like natural sweet, no icing on them, which is fine by me. Although, if I was owner, I would make that an option for those that like them sweeter. Only one problem I had was...I ordered a Cherry Cheese one & they accidentally gave me a regular Cherry (no cheese) Pie. But still give the...

I’m sorry but it was a bad experience. I do not normally leave reviews but hoping the owners and staff can take note of it. I really wanted to like this place as it had so many good reviews. I went there with a few family members and at first it was nice. The waitress was friendly. She took my order and I stated no chili and cheese in my burrito (thought that was very weird that it is even an ingredient in there) she brought my food out before the other person got hers and said it would be right out. Well my burrito was full of chili and cheese. And no guacamole and pico like I asked. I sent it back, it came out less than 5 minutes later and without the pico again and with sour cream. I waited a couple minutes so my niece didn’t have to watch me eat. I tried my burrito and it tasted like some weird canned beef Like corned beef and hash canned meat. And filled with retried beans. Was so gross. Another 10 minutes later still no meal for my niece. She tasted mine and agreed it was gross. Another 5 minutes without her meal so about 15 total. I couldn’t stomach my burrito. We had ordered 2 iced teas and barely drank any and I politely told the waitress we were leaving as my other family members left and didn’t want to eat there. I was told I had to pay for the 2 teas Even though we barely touched them. No apology or anything from the older lady at the register nor another male staff member/cook? Just an unfriendly smirk and they walked away. I’ve never felt like such an unwelcomed unimportant customer before. Would never return here or...

Chips werent bad, but no flavor at all, added my own salt so it was ok. The salsa is the worst I've had anywhere. Not sure how this place got so many reviews on the salsa. It is tomatoes from a can warmed up with some cilantro and garlic mixed in. Absolutely no flavor or spice at all, more like a tomato soup than a salsa. The chicken fried steak wasnt bad, but had no seasoning either. The cheese enchiladas were ok, they looked alot better than they tasted. Way to strong of chili in the chili. Crazy that nothing had any flavor, but the one thing that should ahve been light on seasoning should have been the chili. The rice was flavorless and the beans were nasty as well. The salad dressing that was on the small salad that came with my chicken fried steak was good and the mashed potatoes were also good, again after adding salt and pepper. The gravy was just a very bland gravy made with chicken stock/bouillon.

To sum it up absolutely no flavor in anything and the best thing was the salad dressing and the mashed potatoes that were part of the chicken fried steak lunch special.

I didn't try the bbq so cant attest to any of it, but I wont be...
