All right, I love me some barbecue. When you first enter this place the line starts at the door. It moves pretty fast. You order your food at the front, and pay. Then you find somewhere to sit and they find you when your food is ready. Somebody actually walks through the place yelling your name. It's pretty awesome, lol. There is not a lot of seating inside, but if you can find a place, it is very cool, thanks to the wonderful air conditioning. There is a bar, and then a fountain drink station to the left of that bar. It gets a little bit crowded but not too bad. If you need to use the restroom, they have a couple both inside and outside.
There is not a lot of parking on the side of the street where the barbecue place is. We actually parked across the street and a dirt lot. But, crossing the road is not dangerous at all, so you don't really have to worry about that.
We sat outside. It was a warm day, of course. A little bit humid, but shockingly there is a ton of shade. It was great to be outside, and it was definitely family friendly.
Now, to the food. The way that I decide if barbecue is to my liking or not is based on my own system. So, take this with a grain of salt. The metric that I use is, do I need to put sauce on my food or is it moist enough and has enough taste on its own. Not that I don't like sauce, because sometimes that's one of the best parts of these barbecue places. But, if I cannot eat my food without having to douse it because it's too dry, then it's not that great, in my book.
The food here was very moist and to tell you the truth, I don't even think I used any sauce at all! Everybody gets something different when they go to barbecue places, and I know that certain regions of the country are known for certain kind of parts of the barbecue. Because it is texas, I do always get the brisket. In this case, the brisket was some of the best I've had. I also got some of the burnt pork ends, which were definitely my favorite. They were sweet and pulled apart really easy. Pretty incredible, actually.
Besides were really good. They were not big portions, but that's cool because otherwise I'm just stuffing my big fat face. The beans had a really good flavor to them and they were not too soupy. They were just right. The potato salad is a mustard base, which is my favorite. Sometimes potato salad can be too slimy. This potato salad was just right. The mac and cheese was really good, and had some jalapenos, which I love. But of course they are on the top so if you don't like them you can just pick them off.
Any of the desserts are going to be really good. The problem is, they were out of most of them when we were there. They only had one, the Nutter Butter pudding... it did not disappoint.
All in all I would have to say that this is probably my favorite barbecue place so far. Granted, I am pretty new to Texas. So I have to get to a lot of places. Did you go here, and if so what are your thoughts? Where else...
Read moreArrived on a Saturday around 11:25 with only a few ahead of me in line. Apparently they decided to open at 10:30 this day so maybe that helped get the line down initially but the place still wasn’t packed by any means with plenty of seating. Waited just a few minutes to order and received my order within 10 mins. I ordered to go since I already knew I would be packing things up as we would spending the day in Fort Worth and I told myself to take it easy.
I ordered the 3-meat plate with brisket, jalapeño n cheese sausage, ribs, mac n cheese, borracho beans, 3 Flaco’s tacos, nutter butter cheesecake pudding and 2 cokes and a water. My total came out to less than $50, which for today’s bbq prices seemed very reasonable.
The brisket was a nice and fatty piece from the point, perfectly rendered fat, fork tender with a good bark and smoke flavor. If I’m being extremely picky I generally prefer just a little more salt on the bark of my brisket but that’s just if I’m trying to find a complaint. The sausage had a good flavor, a good snap when bit into. The pork spare rib was great. A nice peppery season but finished with a sweet rub/sauce. My wife preferred the rib over everything else.
The Mac n cheese was perfect. Creamy, tender, flavorful, a nice little kick. The borracho beans were really good as well with a lot of flavor.
The Flaco’s tacos were a great add on. Brisket, cheese, cilantro, onion grilled on the flat top just right, served with a really good salsa with a nice kick of spice.
The nutter butter cheesecake pudding is a great dessert, wouldn’t change anything, just a really solid option for something different than the standard banana pudding at bbq shops, and I love banana pudding.
Overall, it’s easy to see why Panther City is a Texas Monthly Top 10 spot. There wasn’t a let down on anything I tried, it was all great with unique flavors. It’s a nice set up, easy to order, ample seating, bar right next door and the owners were walking around working/and greeting guests.
Returned again on 7/17/22 for my birthday lunch. Awesome again. Tried the daily special, Angel’s Burger. So good, juicy, flavorful, will definitely get again. Everything was awesome, very consistent with...
Read moreI had lunch with friends at Panther City BBQ in FT Worth, Texas today. I have seen this recommended by many people so I have wanted to try it for a while, today was the day!
We ordered a variety of meat and sides as well as a couple desserts.
Brisket: I ordered half lean and half moist. The bark was heavy and each portion was a little dryer than I prefer but had great flavor.
Smoked barbacoa: this was great, the consistency and flavor was as good as I have found at any of the taco shops that I have had it at. This was chopped so there were not many large pieces.
Jalapeño cheese sausage: smooth grind with small pieces of jalapeño and adequate cheese pieces. This was great.
Garlic beef sausage: smooth grind with lean meat mixture so it was a little dryer than the jalapeño version but had great flavor.
Smoked half chicken: great consistency and flavor throughout. I had smaller pieces of the white meat due to it being dryer than the dark meat.
Pork ribs: great crust and flavor, the bone end was perfect, the tip end was not rendered well enough to eat all of it.
Texas twinkie: one had a small amount of cream cheese, the other did not have any. The bacon wrap was loose and had large gaps so the chopped brisket inside was a little dryer than I prefer. The flavor was great.
Spicy smoked Macaroni and cheese: creamy cheese in al dente noodles with jalapeño slices and breadcrumbs on top. The breadcrumbs added flavor but I would have preferred to have much less of it.
Borracho beans: great flavor and the toppings that were added amplified this to be a great side.
Dill potato salad: great consistency and flavor, this was as good as I have found at a BBQ restaurant.
The indoor seating was full so we sat outside, there were plenty of tables between the indoor and outdoor dining areas. I added another stamp to my Texas Monthly Top 50 BBQ joints in Texas passport- they could not find the correct stamp so they used a previous one instead.
This was a great place, I plan to return in the future to try more of the menu items.
