So for context, I have eaten at this place a few years ago when I lived in the area; today was my first time back since then as I've moved back into the neighborhood.
Boy oh boy has this place changed for the worse it seems. We arrived around 7pm on a Wednesday evening and immediately were told that the large dining room was closed and we were to order food and eat on the bar side, a MUCH smaller space. There was a older gentleman playing some live music on flute and trumpet which is normally a nice surprise but the volume was more apt for a stage in a space 3-4 times the size; instead he was sat in one of the corners of the bar. The volume of the performance ultimately led to us changing our order to take-out.
The menu provided was not very accurate as it said the Mushroom Swiss Burger that I selected was $13 but we were charged $14, not a huge deal. Luckily we didn't end up waiting long for our food to be ready. My critique of the burger; not great. It was over seasoned and overly complicated. I don't know what part of mushroom swiss burger screams out for chipotle mayo, I also was not expecting wilted lettuce, tomato and pickles on the burger. The cheese ended up solidifying into a hardened blob with the scant mushrooms interspersed within in the whopping mile long drive back home. I honestly ended up just picking at the meat and eating the (store/vendor bought) onion rings because I was hungry.
All in all, it seems like M&O went from being a nice, casual burger joint with good food to some pretentious restaurant and lounge seemingly aimed at appealing to a ritzier clientele. I don't think I will be returning and that is really disappointing to say, knowing what it used to...
Read moreFantastic burgers, absolutely delicious!
Not everything was great, but the burgers were so so good I'll forgive the various problems below and give them 5 stars anyway.
So what were the problems: A turkey club sandwich came missing both bacon and salami, two pretty significant ingredients to just leave out My burger had avocado, and they used the teeny tiniest slices of avocado I've ever seen. Sure maybe that's just how the sandwich is made, but I think more likely they're trying to cut costs and seeing what they can get away with The tomato bisque soup was... I don't even know what that was, it was just bad. It might have had tomato in it, not really sure. It was heavy on the cream, which sounds like a good thing but it really wasn't. Don't get the soup
So with all those negative comments, why am I still giving them 5 stars? Because that burger was just so fantastic, seriously! I don't even mind the tiny avocado slices, it was positively delicious exactly as it was. And that turkey club was darn good too, even with two missing ingredients.
So yeah, some problems they need to work on, but fundamentally you're going there to get an amazing burger and that...
Read moreWe stopped here after our swim at the downtown Y because we were absolutely famished! We wanted beef and we had heard about their many awards on the "wall of fame". M & O did not disappoint! As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by the owner himself, Danny. He asked if we had been in before, and then gave us a lengthy rundown of his menu. I went with his award winner, the Bleu Cow, with a bowl of freshly made tomato and basil soup... and my wife had the Jimmy Jack Melt, and sweet potato fries, followed by a slice of home-made Pecan pie with vanilla bean and caramel ice cream! Incredible flavors and so... much... food! Enjoyed the retro furniture along with the vibe inside. The walk in freezer door with all it's graffiti glory displayed front and center is way cool too. What added so much value to our time here though...was visiting with Danny and his son Nathan, and hearing about the history of the place and their own success story. So refreshing when the establishment is family owned! Oh, don't miss the wonderful museum right next to the dining area...Leonard's Grocery! What a great experience and meal! We'll be...
