I did have a couple issues, but first things first, the beer here is very good. They had 27 selections on tap, and I tried about a third of them, and was very pleased with them all. Their range of styles is solid, love to see a TX brewery have as many stouts as they have IPAs on tap, and to see English styles, and of course some classics to cover their bases.
Now quickly the issues I had. First of all they charged me for a crowler price when I ordered a pint. That's $14 vs $7. A simple slip up that anyone who knows to look at their tab before paying can fix easily. Second issue is I think they overcharge for their flights. I get that you charge more for less typically, but that's for when you order a 10/12oz versus a full pour (16/20oz). When you order a flight you are probably someone familiar with beer enough meaning you're there trying some things for the sake of trying. Beer aficionados shouldn't be penalized for this. $13 for a flight is a bit awkward in my opinion. Should be backed down closer to $10 given the quantity and typical motive for getting a flight in the first place.
Okay nitty gritty out of the way, as mentioned the beer is very tasty, esp for there being so many selections on tap. Hence my 5* rating. Well 4.5* but I rounded up because it's good to be nice.
One quality I noticed in just about every beer I tried was how much the character of the grain, almost like you can taste it in its raw form, came through. And honestly this is not a complaint, but instead I'm kinda impressed. It makes me feel closer to the process and what goes into a beer. Surprised as I was, for now I put this in the pro category instead of the con. I did ask, given how malt/grain forward the beers were, what's a good yeast forward beer they make. Was told the milkshake IPA and one of the lagers. Probably the worst answer possible to be honest, maybe the brewtender was grasping at straws, who knows, but it is what it is.
Last note, their atmosphere/vibe is fantastic. The outdoor seating is done right, with nice lighting and a good amount of space. Wasn't able to try the wood fired pizza truck (shame), but hope to be back for that.
TLDR: Beer is fantastically good. Vibe is good. Pricing is a bit sus, and beer knowledge is good enough for the ave person, but if you know beer, ask for someone who knows what they're talking about.
Overall, 5 stars, this brewery deserves it. I'll be back. And I better see you there...
Read morePicture this: you're sitting outside under an umbrella on a beautiful day. Your wife, who always says is "not really a beer lady", is enjoying a glass of delicious raspberry fields blonde ale, your child is munching on a hot & fresh classic Bavarian pretzel with beer cheese, and you notice your beer glass is getting empty. You walk back inside the big, spacious, and clean taproom, and are presented with a plethora of brewed-on-site craft beer options. Your mouth waters with opportunity: the cordial and attentive staff offer you educated recommendations and construct a delicious flight of 4 beers for you to enjoy. The bartenders notice your adorable dog and offer you a water bowl for your furry friend. As they hand you the water bowl across the counter, you catch a whiff of a fresh Neapolitan oven wood baked pizza. "What's that pizza?", you ask. "That's our Godfather pizza, with hot Italian sausage, goat cheese, basil pecan pesto, pecorino, signature hot maple drizzle, red onion, chili oil, and tomato sauce on our freshly kneaded house made dough", the bartender replied. You order one immediately. As you make your way back to your table, you not only see a variety of beverage and food options (such as sandwiches, soup, wines, and seltzers) but also a refrigerator that has bottles of your favorite beers from the flight. You go back to the register and get 4 bottles, because you couldn't decide on just one. Your pizza arrives at your table, and it is absolutely delicious, and the whole family loves it. Your wife is smiling, your child is smiling, your pup is smiling, and most importantly of all, you are smiling. What was supposed to be a lazy family day at home turned into a wonderful food and beverage experience that brought the whole family together with good vibes. What place is this, you may ask? Why, that place is the award winning and family run Maple Branch Craft Brewery, on 2628 Whitmore Street in...
Read moreWent to this place on a Sunday to partake of their Cheesecake beer pairing with a group of 4 people. First off we asked if they had it and they said yes so we ordered beer, mead and a pretzel. The pretzel came out burnt but I did not complain because of the group I was with. The mead was not good but I do not blame them for that (although they could have offered a tiny taste).
The atmosphere was fine and friendly but the music was very loud and due to that and the brick interior our group spent most of our time just yelling at each other. During this whole time we kept smelling bunt-smell and figured it must have been burnt pizzas being delivered. We then proceeded to order our Cheese cake flights and what do you know? They did not have them that day at all.
This is not the first time I have been told they do not have a certain tasting but this will be the last. I would say if you just want to try a local beer to say that you tried one, go ahead and visit, for anything else, I...
