My husband is a regular there, so I had him bring a meal to me. Forgive the paper plate. Bayou Eggs Benedict w/cheese grits. Honest review. The concept is great, but the execution fell flat. As you can see, the jalapeno corn cakes are burnt, why? Too much sugar in the corn batter. They burn easily with too much sugar, when they should have a tiny pinch of sugar just to balance the flavors. The tasso ham was quite good, but a bit rubbery since it was overheated to begin with. The two eggs were done properly, but were a bit under cooked to stand up to transiting as a to go order. Slightly firmer egg yolks would not have collapsed as easily in transit. The devil is in the details. The cheese grits get salt from the added cheese, so cut way back on the added salt. Way too salty for health, and let patrons add more salt at the table. Be careful to not have too many items on your menu. Overall quality of products suffers if you are juggling too much in the kitchen. Yes! I will come back to see just how you grow and develop over time. Don't blow it in the first year by not controlling your overall food costs to low profit margins. That can easily happen if you try to be all things to everyone, especially with smallish seating and tight parking. First hand experience speaking here. Your long term reputation is an asset, without doubt, and you have a great thing here if you manage it correctly. We do not want to lose...
Read moreWoke up and decided I wanted to get some breakfast since it’s my birthday & this place has been highly recommended on Reddit.
Walked in, was told to seat myself so I took a seat at the front counter. The server, Tavia, said that this has been a weird day so I asked her why. She said a woman had sat down at a table in the corner, ordered her food, opened a book on how to read facial expressions to the first page, keep checking the clock on the wall above her then when the food came out, she took 2 bites of the sausage and when Tavia came by and asked her how things were, the woman said that sausage wasn’t very good so Tavia when and talked to the manager about giving her a discount on her food but the woman passed but asked for her check. She left a $20 and left and even left the book behind.
I order the breakfast Monte Cristo, crispy side of hash browns and a Dr. Pepper. When the Monte Cristo came out, she put powered sugar on it then tossed the side of jam onto the plate. I added some Cholula hot sauce to the hash browns. Delicious. Will be back again soon.
Tavia made my day with her story. Love hearing experiences from others on what it is like working in a restaurant. She’s very sweet, cute, and has a great sense of humour.
Restaurant is quiet. No music being played, TV’s weren’t on. Ladies are very efficient on what they do. They aren’t on their cell phones. They take care of...
Read moreWhen I walked into Vickery Boulevard Cafe, it was like I was stepping back into time. The inside was a throwback to the 1950s diner. Remember the diner in Back to the Future? That was Vickery Cafe. The only thing that was missing was the jukebox.
But what was present, was the family atmosphere. Families, neighbors, friends..... they were there. And the amazing thing? They were all talking to each other. It wasnt a diner full of people with their faces in the phone. Only one person, sitting at the counter was into her laptop. Everyone else was enjoying each others company.
The staff ran the diner like a well oiled machine. Everyone having a certain job to do, all working well with each other. It was amazing to watch. As me and my friend waited on our meal, the woman in the booth next to us was singing "Itsy, bitsy, spider " to her child.
My friend ordered the blueberry pancakes, sausage, and orange juice. The pancakes were huge, with huge blueberries all through it. And the orange juice? FRESH SQUEEZED.
I ordered the chicken fried ribeye steak, with mashed potatoes and okra. It was more than I could eat. Everything came out hot and well seasoned.
So if you're looking for a place that's perfect for friends and family get togethers, take a visit to the Vickery Boulevard Cafe. You wont be...
