Velvet Taco is the culinary equivalent of a wild night out that ends with glitter in your eyebrows and a story to tell. It’s chaotic. It’s bold. It’s everything your taste buds didn’t know they needed but now absolutely can’t live without. We rolled in six-deep for a birthday lunch, full of hope, hunger, and zero backup plans. The place? Tiny. Packed. Hotter than a habanero sauna. The AC was working as hard as the overcaffeinated staff, but neither could quite keep up with the crowd. The service? Let’s just say it leaned more “fast-paced fury” than “friendly flair.” We asked a question and got a shrug that said, “Girl, I’m surviving.” Respect. It was mayhem, but they were hustling. Now let’s talk tacos—because this is where Velvet Taco redeems itself like a plot twist in a telenovela. These tacos? They don’t whisper. They shout in five languages and then drop the mic. Global fusion. Crunch, spice, texture. Every bite hits like the headliner at a food festival, a love letter to your Southern soul. The spicy tikka chicken? Fire. And don’t even get me started on the chips and dip trio—I’d fight someone for that elote dip. The queso? So smooth it should be illegal. The guac? Fresh enough to make you weep. Was the food timing a mess? Yes. Tacos arrived like surprise guests at a wedding. Some of us were halfway through dessert (emotionally) before the rest of the meal showed up. But honestly? It was worth every awkward pause and “should we wait?” debate. 🍽️ Pros Next-Level Taco Creativity: These are not your abuela’s tacos—unless your abuela is a globe-trotting flavor queen with a passport full of spice stamps. Holy Trio of Dips: Elote, guac, queso = the Beyoncé, Kelly, and Michelle of starters. Fun, Loud, Wild Vibe: Perfect for when you want a meal and a mood. Central AF: Easy to find. Hard to forget. 🙃 Cons Space? We don’t know her. Tight quarters and long lines—claustrophobes beware. Hotbox Energy: If you’re visiting in summer, bring hydration and hope. Taco Tetris: Food arrives like your playlist on shuffle. Overwhelmed Staff: Not rude, just overworked and possibly astral projecting. Waits are Real: Good luck sneaking in quick. Velvet Taco lives on island time. Final Verdict: Velvet Taco is equal parts culinary genius and controlled chaos. It’s not a place you go for a quiet date—it’s where you go when your taste buds are bored and your patience is mildly intact. Bring friends, bring time, and brace for spice. You'll leave sweaty, satisfied, and slightly changed...

We were in town to go to the museum and were looking for a delicious lunch somewhere close that we hadn’t been before. Velvet Taco has been on my list for years, so I was excited to finally get to try it. We were there just after 11a on Wednesday. There is a small dedicated parking lot attached to the building, and a larger shared lot just across the alley. There was no line when we walked in and only a couple of people eating. Well that quickly changed! Lol and there was a line practically out the door by the time we ordered and sat back down. The interior to rather small, I’m not sure if this is the same for all locations, but the décor is cute and theme-y. So many of the tacos sounded delicious and I was having a hard time making a choice, so I went with two of the “favorites” the spicy tikka chicken and the Korean fried rice. My husband ordered the kobe beef smash burger and the sweet chile shrimp, and we shared the red curry coconut queso. The queso, unfortunately, was a bit disappointing. The description sounded delicious, but it tasted like a basic queso to me, there weren’t very many chips, and my husband felt the chips weren’t very fresh. We saw MANY people order the elote and chips, so may have to give that a try next time. The tacos, however, were wonderful! We both tried them all and we had similar opinions on our preferences. The spicy tikka chicken and kobe smash burger were our favorites. I would say the tikka chicken was better, mainly because it’s so unique, but tasted just as I wanted it to based on the description. I really enjoyed the jasmine rice inside the taco and the authentic flavor on the chicken. Be warned, it is a fried chicken tender, but this was really a delicious taco! The smash burger tasted like a delicious burger, on a taco, and you just can’t beat that. The Korean fried rice taco was tasty and well flavored, a bit hard to eat though as the toppings just kept falling off and I didn’t see any forks. The sweet chile shrimp taco was good, but nothing special. It did taste as you’d expect and had several large well cooked shrimp, so no complaints, just didn’t knock our socks off. We were too full to try any dessert, although my husband was very tempted by the large red velvet cake that was out tempting us. Overall, we had a great first experience and will definitely be back much sooner than it took us to make our...

As a frequent diner at Velvet Taco, I can confidently say it's one of my favorite spots for indulging in unique and delicious tacos. The ambiance is always lively, and the service is consistently excellent. What sets Velvet Taco apart is their innovative approach to taco fillings, which never fails to impress. From their mouthwatering tikka chicken to their flavorful paneer and inventive tofu options, every bite is a burst of flavor. The variety of sides and desserts further add to the experience, with the elote corn and red velvet cake being personal favorites. While prices may be on the higher side for tacos, the quality and creativity justify the cost. Overall, Velvet Taco never disappoints and remains a top choice for satisfying my taco cravings.

Updated review : “Had an amazing family dinner today at Velvet Taco, and it was a special one! We tried the new Peri Peri Chicken Tacos, and they were absolutely delicious—spicy, flavorful, and a perfect blend of ingredients that made each bite memorable. The atmosphere was vibrant and welcoming, making it a great spot to spend time with family.

A big shoutout to Alana and Josh for making our experience extra special. Josh ensured everything was on point, from the food to the service, making us feel right at home. Thanks to the team at Velvet Taco for a fantastic evening; we had a great time and will definitely be back for more. Highly recommend for anyone looking to enjoy unique, flavorful tacos in a fun and friendly setting!”

See they always do...
