Imi recently had the displeasure of visiting this place for the first time as a new resident. I only ordered chicken fried rice and it was dry, no flavor, it actually tasted old. The chicken tasted like it was rotten. I went immediately back and asked for a refund of $8.50. Before I finished my sentence the lady who runs the front register and the server told me no. We do not refund we will remake. I didn't like it to begin with because it was the worse version of chicken rice I ever ate. They argued back and forth saying they cannot and will call the police! They called owner of the restaraunt and had her on speaker, she said "why is this happening everyday"? Do not refund. In 5 minutes Fortuna P.D. was there to ask me what I would like. I said just my $8.50. They explained that this establishment does NOT have to refund anything and to take the loss. I asked then remake something else. They refused service and I was asked to leave. I have only suspicion that this business is poor quality, uses days old food and will never treat customers fairly. They called the police. I mean doesn't the police have important things to do. Why would they go to that extreme? I will continue to report this business to the CA health inspectors, BBB, and the Chamber of Commerce of Fortuna. This is very poor business practice and unacceptable. Do not spend your money on what you would expect to be quality food and get...
Read moreOuch. I hate giving bad reviews, and I love Chinese food. Unfortunately, Hunan Village made me the worst food I've ever received from a restaurant. The black pepper chicken I received via takeout was cooked into hard balls. There was no sauce at all in the container since it had all been cooked off. It was dry, stringy, and basically inedlible. If I'd received it in person, I would have sent it back, and I've only done that one time in my 45 years. I would never have served that to a guest, let alone a client. Unfortunately, as I was visiting, it was also my first (and definitely last) meal there, so it's my only experience.
The frustrating part is that I'm the guy always fighting for us to eat Chinese. My friends and family never want to get it because "it is inconsistent and sometimes really gross." This night, I had begged my wife to get Chinese food because I had such a craving, and I not only got the worst food, but I won't be able to persuade her to get Chinese food again for long time.
I really needed you guys to come through! Both for my cravings and for my ability to eat Chinese food for the forseeable future. You biffed it about as bad as anybody...

Ordered on the late side, service (prep time,) was surprisingly fast. So I was was happy with that, but couldn't help but wonder if some ingredients are being prepared ahead since it was so quick.
Food tasted very good and seemed freshly prepared... Chinese chicken salad was fresh and not soggy at all. (which is prob my favorite of any Chinese restaurant, it's awesome)... Main course was very hot,and tasted really good. Got 'double faced noodles' a house specialty. Mmmmmm....
Quality overall was very good, but not great or epic. Didn't disappoint... but didn't stand out either. Basically what I expect from this location.
The biggest down side currently, in my opinion... Is that the 'take-out' or 'to-go' portions are never as impressive as when I am eating there. Take out is most often the quality I expect but not the size or amount I am used to when dining in. Although this is nothing new since covid. My family and friends have alway felt the in door dining is well worth the money, but the take out is hardly...
