Newly opened and showing promise. Tasty chicken sandwiches and a good selection of beverages. I did find the fries to be rather salty but overall a good option, especially since nearly every other choice in that area is junk food. Starbird offers real food, fast. UPDATE 29MAR18 A second trip to Starbird, tried the Ranch this time and it was excellent. On my first trip I tried their signature Starbird and while tasty I feel the combination of both avocado and a rather wet slaw made the sandwich too sloppy and ruined the crispiness of the chicken. despite loving avocado, I'd like to see them lose it for this sandwich, it's overkill.
The ranch however had excellent balance, the slaw was perfectly moist without being too wet and the pimento spread worked well with the ranch sauce and despite it also having bacon it was not too salty overall, but I still feel they can take salt down a notch on everything, especially the seasoning for the fries which needs about a 50% salt reduction from the mix. My tongue shouldn't hurt after eating fries because of salt. Until that happens, I'll opt for the side of slaw instead of the fries. On the whole, I'm still really happy to see them move into the area. I know I'll be...
Read moreCame here because of a recommendation. I wanted to taste new ways to have fried chicken. Starbird is creative in their use of flavors: their food is mildly spicy. We came in a tried their tacos, the California Taco with avocado, tangy slaw, and fried chicken with wasabi aoli for spice. The taste was very good. We also had a Seoul Mate taco with sriracha mayo and kimchi as well as slaw for some acid zing. It was a good flavor combo with some spice. The chicken was fried in a corn meal and flour coating that was crispy but tended to hide the flavor of the chicken. It was like a crust more than a coating. The chicken tender was hot and juicy but it lacked flavor. I could tell it was chicken, but the meat needed something. They did have a cool wrinkle, your order, by your name, was listed on a TV screen that showed it was cooking or ready. It was good because you might miss your name with the conversation noise; it was loud. Not quite standing by a jet loud, but tough to hear well loud. The drinks were great, cane syrup soft drinks using no HFC. Very good. As I said, the place was a tad noisy: music, loud conversations may make you want to take your...
Read moreTo go order: So I just ordered at 7:30pm today and picked up my order at 7:40pm. Drove 5 min and when I got home the fries were cold and the chicken dry and was almost half the size of the bread. I was so hungry I ate it anyway but this was disappointing. I can tell that the fries and sandwich would have been good if they were fresh.
UPDATE: So I went back doing exactly what I did above (even same times). The fries were not that cold but not ideal. I think it's the packaging, it's open and the bag they give is open. So from making the order to getting home took 9 min that made them cold. This time I ordered the Nashville hot chicken and added Make it Blazin' which makes it hotte. It was medium warm when I got home, but it was spicy hot enough to clear out my sinuses! This has got to be, hands down, the hottest chicken sandwich of any fast service food place in the Bay area. I'm from Nashville, so comparatively it's about a normal Hot level there but wasn't as greasy.
UPDATE 2: so I went back and this time added a Star grilled chicken sandwich. I like grilled more than fried. And it was warm when I got home. So...
