Tacos Del Gordo is mostly 4-stars with occasional off days.
FOOD: I have had many entrees from here.
The Queso Birria Tacos are FANTASTIC!!!! The presentation could be a little better but the meat is flavorful, the tortilla has a slight crisp and the Consomme is ELITE!!
The Carne Asada Fries are decent with mostly crispy fries that are not too greasy. They put a lot of meat.
The Carnitas Tacos are delicious and has some of the best Carnitas that I have had from a taco shop in this town. They fill the tacos with meat.
The Rolled Tacos are good with a decent crisp but I can only recommended them to be eaten while dining in as they will get soggy and soft from the guacamole if taken to-go.
The Pollo Asado is mostly good but on occasion they have given me what was obviously old, dry, reheated multiple times, chicken and they were not good.
One complaint that I have about the tacos is that they heat up the corn tortillas with oil. This makes the tortillas very greasy. See my photo.
SERVICE: I have had mostly good service however, it depends on who is taking your order. A few of the girls are super friendly, one of them looks like she hates working there and it shows in her lack of engagement. The guys cooking in the back are always friendly.
ATMOSPHERE: The place is pretty standard. It is mostly clean but the bathrooms are a little iffy. The tables are rarely dirty(they still say Borrielo Brothers, lol). The Salsa Bar is always clean and offers good options. All 3 Salsa are good.
Overall I would Recommend Tacos Del Gordo with a few of the caveats that I...
Read moreTheir food was very good. We're normally a little skeptical about newly opened restaurants, as there are usually a few kinks to work out, however they were close and busy (definitely a good sign). The menu is fairly standard, but does have the typical variety of our local Mexican restaurants. I ordered the tamale and chile relleno, and my friend ordered the rolled tacos and a carne asada taco. Both of mine were excellent-flavorful, spicy, and filling-but my friend was a little underwhelmed. She said the corn tortillas didn't have much flavor, which is her favorite part about rolled tacos, however the carne asada was very good. The refried beans were also packed with flavor.
The staff was very friendly, and patient (considering we couldn't hear them over the din of all the other customers and they had to repeat themselves a few times). Additionally, they verified that we had received everything, including drinks, when we picked up our food (excellent customer service).
The only reason they didn't get a 5-star rating is because they had an issue with flies. We surmised that their ventilation system is on the fritz and so they had to keep the doors open to ventilate and cool the restaurant (it was somewhat smoky as well). If they can get that under control, this restaurant could shape up to be one of the most popular Mexican restaurants...
Read moreWanted to try out this new place as I do all of the time with new spots that I hear about. Especially with it being a new mexican spot on this side of town because I'm crazy for a good fish taco. Anyway, Getting here is pretty easy and they have way more seating than the average taco shop. Since I went on a Sunday afternoon, it wasn't too crowded so that made for a fast in and out trip. (Note:no drive thru here). So how's the food? The adobada taco was really good. The fish taco's were pretty decent. Wasn't the best I've had but they put this reddish sauce in there that's very different from the tacos I've had in the past. I could have did without it but my fiance' loved it so hey. The Churros were very basic in my opinion. Wouldn't reccomend. The Horchata my fiance' had was good from her viewpoint. However, the way they do the Carne Asada fries was a little upsetting to my fiance'. When you get through a quarter of the box, you're left with way more fries than the toppings and the fries get so stale and cold so fast. The texture of everything is so soggy and unenjoyable. So there you have it. I would still recommend that you try this and I would definitely recommend it over Albertacos down the road. Hope you enjoy...
