It’s hard to put into words just how disappointed I am in my dining experience at Shula’s Steakhouse last night. My girlfriend and I were at Wild Horse Pass Hotel Casino location in Chandler, AZ, the day before Christmas Eve.
I ordered a 14 ounce ribeye with creamed spinach and my girlfriend ordered the salmon with a loaded baked potato and a glass of red wine.
The bill came out to $118 before tip and I gave our server $97 cash and explained to put the rest of the bill ($21), on my Bank of America debit card.
When my server Alejandro returned, he explained to me that he ran my debit card on the wrong check for a different table but explain to me that “it’s OK sir, not a problem ”. He didn’t seem concerned at all by his enormous mistake.
Immediately panicked, I asked him how much he ran on my debit card and very nonchalantly he replied “like $400”.
I was absolutely stunned. Minutes later I learned that it was exactly $518.75!!!
I was OVERCHARGED $500!!!!!!!
I immediately went to the Bank of America app on my phone and saw that my balance in checking was $0.00.
ZERO!!!!!
I asked to speak to the manager and after what seemed like an eternity a man named Damon Kemp approached our table. He claimed that he was the Manager of the Day.
In his defense, yes, he did apologize but I tried to explain to him as nicely as possible that I have not done ANY Christmas shopping whatsoever and I had every intention to do that after a nice dinner at Shula‘s, right next door at the outlet mall in Chandler, AZ.
He simply told me that there was nothing that they could do for me. He told me that he could not reimburse us our money at that time.
He said that I would have to “reach out to my financial institution” in a tone that implied it was simply not a big deal to him, Shula’s, or Wild Horse Pass, for that matter, and to let them know of the mistake and that I should be refunded my money in 3 to 5 days.
What a joke!
Maybe the majority of clientele at this upscale steakhouse have $500 laying around but unfortunately, I don’t.
I simply wanted to surprise her with a nice dinner before Christmas shopping and that was obviously ruined by this establishment.
I don’t feel like I have to apologize or justify and explain myself to anyone at Shula‘s since this all happened to me through no fault of my own.
And as for our waiter Alejandro, yes, you guessed it—that walking slime ball scurried away and disappeared into the kitchen, not to be seen again for the rest of the night like some kind of giant gutter rat.
Of course, I did call Bank of America this morning and they told me there was nothing they could do and that it would take five days before the charge would fall off.
This whole situation is completely ludicrous. Any time of the year is completely unacceptable but the fact that it was the day before Christmas Eve makes it 10 times worse.
I’m at a complete loss. I tried to reach the general manager Mathew Davis twice this morning, leaving voicemails both times but he has yet to reach back out to me. Let’s see if he has the stones to do the right thing and call me back and fix this immediately.
Believe me, I’m not a vindictive person who flames restaurants on social media and review websites every time his steak is overcooked (it was perfect, by the way).
But what’s right is right and I feel that by not posting a review online, it would be doing a huge disservice to future customers of this place.
It's sad because the food really was, and always is, excellent. I’ve been here at least half a dozen times in the past three years and they never disappointed us until now.
Damon told me that they would comp our next meal or give us $100 credit, to be honest I’m not sure which because I could hardly think straight at that point.
Damon also said that they would give the both of us $75 each for free slot play but in all honesty, I would rather have Christmas with my girlfriend and be able to buy my family gifts this...
Read moreLet me tell you about our experience here, it is of two nights one being our wedding anniversary and the other being my wife's 50th birthday. We stayed at Wild Horse Pass for our anniversary at the end of February 2019 and our first night there we had dinner at Shula's and we're just blown away by the menu and quality of the food and the hospitality. It is not a normal thing for us to spend $100 per person for a meal, but we both made the comment several times that there is a difference. Our waiter was just over the top in his attention to detail and truly helped to make the experience memorable. Now mind you we enjoyed the time we spent there so much that I reserved a table for my wife's birthday a month later. We got there and were seated imeaditly after we walked in the door at our reservation time by a kind welcoming staff. We sat down and to our surprise we ended up with the same waiter, we expressed out happiness to have him again and completely expected to have the same great experience. When he said hello he asked us if we wanted the democrat or the Republican menus....being taken a back by the question we laughed and said what? Then he said (you know, the devided states of America) and again we laughed and made lite and said yes it's a shame right. Then he said (so do ya want the Trump wall or no Trump wall?) first of all..... WTF is my waiter doing and second who the does he think he is? So again we made light of it and ordered our food (hope that wasn't a mistake? ) and our drinks. And just let it slide so as not to ruin my wife's birthday dinner. When our food was ready it was presented perficlty and it was beautiful to look at much less how good it tasted. After that we didn't say anything about the awkward experience and just sat and enjoyed our meal and eachothers company and then the mid meal check came and we were asked how everything was, we both said it was wonderful and thanked him, at that point I asked for my drink that had not been brought yet (no big deal) and when he brought it to the table he bowed low and said please forgive me I'm on Mexican time. Again WTF is this guy's problem and why the is he acting like this to us? I have to tell you if this had been anywhere else and any other day than my wife's birthday that I had planned for several weeks this would have been handled in a much different way. I kept my cool and I even tipped the kind little fellow very generously to save the mood of my wife's birthday. I never ever do any keyboard bashing but in this case I am doing this for the owners of an otherwise wonderful establishement to know who is reprepresenting them. Baring some kind of an unlikely attempt to atone for such a disrespectful unwarranted unsolicited experience by a very small person we will never ever walk through the doors of...
Read moreMy partner, daughter and I came here last week for dinner reservations at 6:45 pm. The restaurant is beautiful and overlooks the beautiful sunset while you’re dining. During better weather, I would have opted for outdoor seating.
Service was great. We started with drinks — I don’t remember the name of the drink I ordered but it was well-balanced, bright and refreshing. My partner ordered the fun drink that comes in a wooden smoking box. The server brings out the drink and there is a pair of dice. If you call out a number and roll that number with the dice, they comp your drink. We tried 3 times and didn’t win but it was a super fun experience and opportunity!
To start, we had the short rib croquette — it was a great plate to share and came with a pickle herb salad and an aioli for dipping. Super tasty! I really enjoyed the herby brightness that the pickle salad brought to the dish.
For our entrees, we both ordered ribeyes and shared truffle Mac and cheese. My daughter shared with us and loved the steak. However, my partner thought it was extremely salty. In fact, he thought everything was too salty (the steak and the Mac and cheese). I feel like my steak had spots that were definitely over salted but I think his was much more saturated. He ate it still regardless.
To end our meal, we had the Basque Cheesecake. It was a different style than I’ve had but tasty nonetheless. Again, my partner felt like the dessert was also salty (I believe it was the graham cracker crust that he felt was salty). It was also served with fruit that I felt didn’t go well with the cheesecake (I would have preferred something like strawberries).
For the price, I would have liked my partner to have enjoyed his food more. It was disappointing for that reason. I’ll give them another shot again eventually — perhaps it was a one...
