I’m pleased to be one of the first reviewers of Spinato’s off of Via De Ventura. They have a few other locations, however this one is very new. We have tried them twice for lunch, yesterday and today.
The atmosphere is really nice. The restaurant is brand new and they are supposedly building a patio too. The hostesses open the door for you- which is a nice touch. I do feel like the dining area is pretty small- there are only about 10 tables and then there is a bar area with flat screens and seating.
The staff are nice, but they are a new restaurant and still working out some kinks. We have had Milan twice, she is super sweet and they are accommodating to some of our guest’s dairy sensitivity. Most places look at us like we are crazy but it’s no problem here- if you have allergies you know how hard it is to find a good Italian place.
The food has been hit or miss so far. The Chicken Wings are decent, they are nice and crispy but there are only 7 or 8 of them for $16, which seems a little overpriced to me. We have also tried the Antipasto Salad- we weren’t very impressed with that and wouldn’t get it again. Once again the portion size was pretty small and there were very few slices of meat, however the lettuce and meats tasted fresh which is always good. It came with some Garlic Bread- which was good but contains dairy, so only one of us could have it.
As far as Entrees, we have tried a “Personal” Chicago Calzone, and a variety of “Small” Vegan Pizzas. We can have meat it’s just a dairy thing. The Calzone was slightly disappointing, it was burnt on the outside and had hardly any meat on the inside. However, we did like the Vegan Cheese in it, it looked and tasted almost like real cheese. I think we’ll stick to Pizzas- they have all been really good! The Cheese is impressive- it’s one of the best we have ever tried, and we’ve tried some bad kinds. This kind has a good consistency, and isn’t very salty.
I’m pretty impressed so far! I would definitely recommend this to anyone with sensitivities. There aren’t that many places with Vegan options so we...
Read moreI will start this review saying that the food was good but our server was awful along with the greeter. I was not initially aware of an issue until my friend mentioned what he was told by the greeter. This is not a family friendly place. My good friend and our kids were seated outside because there allegedly were no inside seats available even though we saw plenty of empty seats. The greeter told us we could sit at the bar, or outside due to the lack of seats. My friend informed the greeter we will take outside seating because we have kids with us and a bar will not be suitable. As we were seated outside our server comes over and takes our orders but was pressed by the older boys wanting wings from the appetizer section. She continued to question their dad about them ordering wings as if he couldn’t afford to pay. The line of questioning, “are you sure?”, “they are ordering wings for themselves, is it not for the whole family?”, “are you sure, are you sure?” She was told that it was okay and that’s what they wanted to eat.
As time goes on, she barely came to see how we were doing yet when an older couple and another family came out she was very attentive to them. She came and asked us once out of the hour we were there if we needed anything. It was really a big turn off, and we will never go there again, nor will we recommend this so called “family” restaurant to others. The food was amazing but the service was extremely poor! Very disappointing that we were discriminated against and questioned as if we couldn’t afford to eat there plus being seated outside when there were plenty of...
Read moreI've enjoyed Spinato's many other times at other locations. The other night was my first time at this location and it just didn't go well.
The pizza was absolutely Terrible. The cheese was almost burnt while the crust wasn't even cooked - Maybe the oven was too hot. Anyway, it tasted like they dumped a pound of sugar in my sauce, way too sweet - I know Spinato's sauce is traditionally sweet, but never this sweet. The crust wasn't even cooked, you couldn't even fold the pizza it was so soft and doughy still. Red Baron Frozen Pizza that you buy at the grocery store looks and tastes better than this pizza.
Eric the server was great, professional and sympathetic when I brought the pizza issue to his attention. He offered to remake the pizza but I didn't have time. Eric was hard to find, didn't really check on me that often, I had to ask for the check.
$30 dollars for a horrible large thin crust pizza and a drink with tip. OK, it's Scottsdale, so I have no problem paying good $$$ for a Great dinning experience but this experience wasn't even close to GREAT. Didn't even finish the Pizza, ended up in the trash.
Don't waste your time or $$$ on this Spinato's location, just go to Yo Paully's or Lorenzo's Pizzaria - where you can expect a great dinning experience and GREAT PIZZA.
I was hoping for a GREAT Experience but this Spinato's location let me down and probably will let you down too. Get with it Spinato's - I would love to enjoy the GREAT pizza you...
