I came to eat here with a friend before a concert at the Fillmore in late February. I meant to leave a review at the time but I have ADHD and forgot 😂 Two months later and I haven’t been able to stop thinking about this meal since then, so here I am now.
I used to eat Ethiopian food all the time. When I lived in DC and Silver Spring it was nearly weekly & I always pick it as my dinner spot when visiting my mom. I live in Baltimore now and it has become so much harder to find exceptional restaurants.
Elilta is exceptional. Elilta is worth the trip down 95 during peak rush hour traffic.
This was hands down the best food I have had in the longest time. The presentation was gorgeous, to say nothing of the depth and strength of the flavors. No watered down lentils or bland kitfo here.
Speaking of the kitfo, this was the most delicious kitfo I have ever had. The seasoning, the spice, the texture. Absolutely perfect.
Everything else was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Truly I have not a single complaint or suggestion on how the experience could be improved.
I also really liked how they cut the injera into strips. It made eating the meal so much easier, plus it was far more pleasant for leftovers.
The women who took care of us were so lovely & kind. Outstanding hospitality! They even gave me some mitmita to take home to enjoy with the food we couldn’t finish. I believe they were the owners of the restaurant, but I’m not sure.
Do yourself a favor and have dinner here, I’m already planning...
Read moreIf you're looking for a truly authentic Eritrean/Ethiopian food experience, then look no further than this amazing restaurant! I recently had the pleasure of trying their "Derek Tibs" dish, which is made with tender beef sautéed in herbal butter and cooked dry, served with injera. Let me tell you, it was absolutely delicious!
What really made my experience stand out, though, was the wonderful owner. When I mentioned that I was visiting, she graciously added a good amount side dish of "Gomen Wot" to my order. This dish is made with chopped collard greens simmered in a mild sauce with onions, green peppers, and peppers. It was cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor!
To accommodate my dietary needs, the owner kindly replaced the injera with whole grain bread, which was just as tasty. And to top it all off, I also had a lentil samosa that was out of this world!
Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for delicious Eritrean/Ethiopian food and fantastic service. The owner was incredibly friendly and made me feel right at home. I can't wait to go back when visiting DMV area again and try more of their...
Read moreThe definition of a perfect small business. The lady running the restaurant was super nice, remembered my name from my reservation, and was very kind in helping us choose what to order. In the past when I've gone to Ethiopian restaurants, I've been with a large group and we just ordered a giant platter with many different items on it in small quantities. I don't think that was possible here - the menu has fewer items on it (reasonable given the staff size and high quality of each item) and the portion sizes of each order are large enough to satisfy a single person - but I must say the food we did get was amazing, and we will definitely be going back to try some other options. The food was ridiculously cheap - we left a 60% tip and it was still less expensive overall than the last restaurant we went to (and the food was way better here). Genuine 10/10 experience and looking forward to going back soon. I never leave reviews but I felt obligated to for this. If you're reading this then you must be at least a little interested, so allow me to decide for you - you should...
