I was very surprised at the downfall of this place. I'll go in timeline order. Upon walking in, it looked like things were going to be ok. Bright lights, plastic ware and paper towels looked good in the middle of the restaurant. When I took a few more steps, I noticed that paper signs looked like they had been up for a year, walls in the bathroom were crumbling, but the cashier who took the order was nice enough. Then to find a seat: booth seats were duct taped where I assume they had broken.
On to The food: The sauce bucket containers (actually the tops where the pumps were) looked like there was something growing. The food was ready in a decent amount of time and looked good. I was hoping The food would make up for the decor. It was fine except that I am used to their food being great. My son loved the wings and fries special and my other son's bbq burrito was hiding burnt tortilla (it had been turned burnt side in). The bf's pulled pork sandwich was described as fine. My ribs and chicken combo tasted good - I had chosen Caribbean chicken and Memphis ribs. Caribbean chicken was really tasty. Ribs were also good, but not hot.. Overall, our sides were not steaming hot, more like lukewarm. I'm assuming they were not heated to code.
Worst, a rat ran by our table. And when I told the cashier, they said that they have tiny little ones. No - this one was huge and sorry, but we shouldn't have seen any.
I felt bad I had chosen to take my family here to eat. It was not how I would have chosen to spend $90. IHOP would have been better.
Tennessee's has been wonderful in the past, though I usually get takeout. I hope the owner/managent sees this review and works to bring it back to its former glory. There's not another good BBQ place until you get...
Read moreVisited on a Monday afternoon. Few ppl in the place, no wait. Although it is in a strip mall , once you walk in it does feel like a roadhouse and that is not all good. Place obviously has had a lot of use and some wear and tear adds to the roadhouse vibe but there is a line where it is just poor maintenance. Paint on the booths is worn away in spots, that's OK. Fabric on booths is held together (badly) with Duct tape, that's not OK. Rest rooms were usable, but that's as far as I would go. Over all the facility itself does not get any attention to it and crosses the line between rustic and just dirty. I got a burrito and it was very good and a good value. They did mix up our sides so we sorted it out ourselves at the table. My wife had a pulled chicken sandwich which was very disappointing. Chicken was not pulled it was just cut chunks , she said it took a lot of BBQ sauce to make it passable. Smashed potato side was very good, cole slaw was meh and my wife who loves sweet potato fries said they were also disappointing.( BBQ places should have awesome sides). Normally I would give the food a second chance but the overall grunge of the place means it is off our repeat list. The 2 stars was for the quick service and the...
Read moreI am currently in Mass for work, but I live in Tennessee. Naturally, I had to try the joint named Tennessee BBQ.
Service was "okay" at best, definitely not the southern welcome you'd except from a BBQ joint, but it's Massachusetts so I can understand.
Ordered a pulled pork sandwich, carolina tangy style. I took 2 bites and had to toss the rest. Arguably the worst "pulled pork" I've ever tasted. It was extremely soggy, tasted days old, and overall not quality pork. The corn bread was damp, almost soggy and the taste wasn't much better. The best part was the mashed taters and gravy, and those weren't anything to write home about.
Overall, I was extremely disappointed, and I went in with fairly low expectations considering the location and the fact I am blessed with actual southern BBQ back home.
With all that said, the absolute worst crime committed was the lack of real sweet tea. A BBQ resteraunt is not complete with out real sweet tea. A machine that mixes syrup and water, or bottle Arizona tea is the ultimate sin for a BBQ joint.
The decor was pretty good, right amount of wear and tear and rustic feel. Considering the building and surrounding area, the decor is the best part to make it...
