MAY’S SEAFOOD RESTAURANT
If I could give this place zero stars I would. We ordered the Seafood Feast for Two to go under the, ultimately wrongful, assumption it was a seafood boil. That was our honest mistake no doubt. What made our experience sour was what transpired afterwards. We went back into the restaurant to express how unsatisfied we were with the untouched product. We asked if there was a way to get our $64 back and to return the Feast. The woman then stated that there was no way to return it. Okay, that is completely fine and understandable. We then asked if she could simply give the Feast to the employees. Which we’re sure they would appreciate. She declined that notion as well. She also declined the option of switching it out. An option we never asked for. The food looked flavorless as it was. The only seasoning it had on it was clumped up old bay which graced the sides of 5 out of ~10 shrimp. The rest were plain, as with the rest of the seafood. We left without any progress. We decided then and there to call a different seafood location. One we had ordered from weeks prior and knew in our hearts had better quality and put more effort into their food and placed an order. We asked for more sauce and seasoning as we knew we’d need it for what we got from May’s. At least this restaurant was more accommodating to our needs and requests. They even provided bibs and gloves out of kindness. On our way to pick up the other order, we decided to call May’s and try to get a different result. This time with speaking to a manager. We once again explained our displeasure with the product. All the manager could say was “We’ve been in business for 31 years and have never had a bad complaint” and “You’ll love it and won’t be disappointed”. Listen, we couldn’t care less about how long May’s has been in business and we highly doubt the restaurant has never received a negative review. We asked “Well, what if we are in fact disappointed?” To which the manager, again for what seemed like the 100th time, stated we wouldn’t be and that May’s is the best. We even stated how we decided to get a REAL seafood boil from the other restaurant. The manager simply could not comprehend how “any seafood restaurant outside of the New Orleans area could do a proper seafood boil.” Was she just admitting that May’s can’t do it? The manager was incredibly combative and defensive instead of being courteous, respectful, and understanding of our opinions regarding the food. We simply wanted our money back. Instead, we left May’s with a bad taste in our mouths. Literally and figuratively. We very politely asked for the name of the woman whom we were speaking with. She herself promptly ended the call. It was “Ms. May”. We understand and respect that she is a proud business owner. However, word of the wise, when a customer doesn’t like your product, be a little bit more courteous and kind towards them instead of stating numerously repeated ego-inflated responses. Also, make sure you hang up the phone before exclaiming what sounds like profanities out loud. We...
Read moreI would give this place -5stars if I could. On august 2 2015, my family of about 10 people and I went to May’s to celebrate my birthday dinner. We picked the outdoor seating option because the restaurant was packed and it was quicker to be seated outdoors. We all ordered and waited to be served our food. The restaurant was really packed and the kitchen was backed up so each person’s food was coming out at different times. We had young children with us who began to fuss because they were hungry so the adults who had been served was giving the children some of their food until the children’s food was served. The waitress came by and said that sharing wasn’t allowed it was part of their all you can eat meal policy which some individuals in my party did order. My mother complained to the waitress explaining how the children where hungry and that our party should be served our food all at once so we could enjoy our meals together. The waitress got frustrated because of this and said “your kind stiff the bill anyways” referring to me and my family being black. My mom said “our kind meaning black people?” The waitress confirmed this and proceeded to say that “our kind” black people had the reputation of stiffing the bill and not tipping. We asked to speak to a manager, and the waitress actually brought out owner, who is an elderly white woman. We explained the situation to the owner and she agreed with the waitress saying that “your kind, does have that reputation”, she also told us to “hurry up and finish our meals and leave”. Another manager a younger white women maybe in her late 30’s early 40’s came and apologized and said that she had actually wanted to buy/take over the restaurant from the owner. Which didn’t fix anything because in a packed restaurant we were humiliated and discriminated against by the waitress and OWNER. We paid for our meal and because we had a party of 10 our bill had a gratuity already added to it. So not only were we racially profiled and discriminated against by the white waitress the white owner agreed and continued to be racist and to top it off we had to tip anyways due the gratuity. Ive been telling everyone about my horrible experience for years, but it never dawned on me to write a review...
Read moreOhh my, not sure where to start. We use to live not far from the area and are in town visiting and staying at a local hotel. My husband was going to write this review, but thought it best if I did. He’s not a happy consumer right now. We called and order carry out and when I went to pick the food up, I was mistakenly given the wrong food. I noticed the order was wrong after my credit card was ran. When the correct order was found she stated “it’s easier to just cancel it and redo it”. It’s whatever but I knew that meant my card would be held for both amounts. She assured me she cancelled it. When we got back to our hotel, maybe 5 mins away we were in shock with what we had. My husband had a shrimp Po-boy. I had a shrimp salad sandwich. My daughter had chicken tenders and fries and we also had mozzarella sticks. We had also order a slice of key lime pie and an apple dumpling. We just paid $70 for food that looks like I should have paid $30! My shrimp salad was chopped up and mixed with tomato and lettuce on stale bread; barely enough to cover the bread. It tasted like watery mayo. No flavor to the shrimp salad. My husbands sandwich was pitiful. It was literally a few fried shrimp on top of a mini hot dog roll. My daughters food was the only thing plentiful. The ketchup we were given for her fries tasted like a cigarette butt. When we got to dessert, omg! I was so looking forward to the apple dumpling. I took one bite and it tasted like it was in the fridge with something bad. It assumed the taste of whatever it was in the fridge with it. We are just really, horribly disappointed in the...
