This Korean chain restaurant is not authentic. I have tasted it in Korea.
Kimchi is not only fermented cabbage, it is a wide variety of fresh vegetables, bean sprouts, and other appetizers with various types of seasonings some pickled, sweet, sour, salty, sesame oil, etc. and it is the cornerstone of Korean cuisine.
All of the food we were served was bland and tasteless like they don't know how to make it. While I appreciate that they don't use MSG in their cooking, they also apparently don't use salt. They only had four types of kimchi one of which was mac and cheese!?! By contrast other family-owned Korean restaurants offer as many as 20 different types of kimchi you can choose from. Kimchi cabbage cannot be made without Napa cabbage, salt, and red chili pepper and requires weeks to ferment and pickle properly. Their Kimchi was newly made, unfermented and tasteless. The gochujang (chili paste) seasoning was watered down, excessively sweet, unsalted, and not spicy. The bulgogi beef cuts were poor quality and small portions for the price.
Their menus are filled with lots of fine print rules about what you can and cannot order together (law degree required). For example, the overpriced all you can eat options ($30-40) limit the premium cuts of meat to one per party (not per person) and impose a time limit of 1 1/2 hours to complete your meal (BTW you're cooking it as well, w/4 persons per grill) so you will not likely eat more than one serving. After that you must pay again as you will certainly still be hungry. Also if one person wants to order the all you can eat option, everyone in the party must order it (i.e., forced upsell).
We paid about $230 for six people and we all left hungry.
The only way I can explain all the five-star reviews is either they are fake, the people don't know what good fresh food is supposed to taste like, and they have been conditioned to accept every B.S. rule that someone shoves down their throat.
If you are a pig, like being told what you can and can't buy or eat you may like this restaurant. Don't be surprised if you're the one being glazed. We will not be returning.
Hmmm? It just occurred to me, perhaps I am wrong and it is North...
Read moreNot a very warm welcome upon arrival. We were then seated at a dirty table (with a bus cart right next to it, which should have clued the hostess in that it was still being cleaned,) When we asked to get sat a clean table, the hostess seemed confused and unsure of why we would want a clean table. No one came over for 15 minutes (there were only 3 other occupied tables) The server did not ask if we had been here before or ask if we knew how things worked. (We have been to the one in Centreville so we knew what to expect, nonetheless... Grant it, this was week 2 that they have been open and (and I have opened a dozen corporate restaurants) there will be some kinks, but first impressions are key in a new spot, especially in a place void of variety. The lack of AC also made the experience less than stellar. Overall, the food was decent. Unlike most Korean BBQ places, the grill sits up high as opposed to being recessed, this poses a good risk for burning yourself. The grilling surface is also just a solid piece of cast iron with one drainage hole and grease splattered everywhere. (Which apparently the one waiter was aware of, because he recommended that my fiancé use the hidden compartment in her seat to put her purse in to avoid it getting splattered) Highly doubtful we will return, they have a few different selections of meat than the other Korean BBQ place in town, but as far as atmosphere and overall experience,...
Read moreMy hubby and I were very excited to try and have dinner here for the first time. We recently moved here from Fairfax area and we’re very familiar with Kbbq as we've been to most of the Kbbq up north. We picked Option B to have the option to try most of the stuff on the menu. Sad to say we were not pleased with our experience. For their premium meats they limit 1 per person. If I’m paying for the most expensive all you can eat option on the menu there shouldn’t be any limit on what we can order. Our server kept forgetting most of our orders and we had to constantly ask for what we ordered to be brought to us. And halfway through our dining experience it went pitch black as they turned the lights off to celebrate someone’s birthday (which is fine if they kept the lights on) it was so dark we couldn’t see what we were cooking/eating. Our waiter kept limiting our meats to the point where we asked for the check and left without even trying anything else we wanted on the menu because there was a limit (we asked for 1 LA Galbi and 1 bulgogi and only bulgogi made it to our table and it was bland). Definitely not worth your money. Paid more than $100+ for the both of us to only get 3...
