Kickshaws Gluten-free Bakery — Restaurant in Fredericksburg

We went to cool cats for my niece and her cupcakes who had an egg allergy, and they were amazing!!! A week later I decided to visit kickshaws to pick up a few items for my boyfriend’s birthday. He is an avid health nut and doesn’t like to consume gluten. I only saw basic chocolate or vanilla gluten free cups cakes and noticed many patrons visiting the refrigerator for pre made treats. They had many more options in there vs what was on display. I was in a rush so from what I was able to view they had mint chocolate, key lime, and chocolate banana cream cupcakes. I decided on the chocolate banana cream.

I want to first point out that my boyfriend LOVED the pack of 3 I purchased him. He thought they were delicious. However I’m a little dissatisfied that they were labeled as chocolate banana cream… when the only banana element was the one piece of banana they placed on top for decoration. There wasn’t any other element of banana in the cupcake nor any element of a cream.

I have gluten and dairy intolerances, and we unexpectedly discovered Kickshaws while shopping, and were thrilled to explore it! 🎉😍 The staff were incredibly welcoming, and the cozy, colorful atmosphere was delightful. 🏡😊 Enjoying a barista's recommended cold brew and a warm cinnamon roll on a pink cushioned couch was wonderful! ☕🥐💖 Initially, I was pleasantly surprised by the extensive menu options available to me (unusual given my dietary restrictions), and the kind barista suggested the cinnamon roll and cold brew (which they were enjoying), mentioning the new coconut milk cold foam and that they were having a vanilla peppermint cold brew with it on top. 😋👍 I ordered mine with oat milk, and it was delicious! 😋🥛 The barista enthusiastically inquired about my opinion, and I gave it my highest praise; they even noticed me taking a picture. 📸😂 As a fellow barista, I highly recommend this place, especially for those with dietary restrictions and a fondness for sweets! 💝☕ I'm in town for another day and look forward to visiting again...

This bakery is not the place you want to go. While the sourdough bread and cinnamon rolls are decent, everything else is not so great. I went to Kickshaws on Friday. While waiting in line, I watched as a confused barista took her sweet time to make coffee, asking the manager what ingredients where which and what they were used in, visibly annoying the lady waiting for her coffee. I purchased a brownie, shortbread, carrot cake, and a few other odds and ends. By looking at the brownie, I believed it would be moist and fudgy. In truth, it was bland and dry. The shortbread was like eating hardtack, perhaps it was left over from the Civil War. What takes the cake here (no pun intended) was that the carrot cake, the worst I had ever eaten, contained not one, but TWO HAIRS. Yes folks, two long and stringy hairs were baked right in.
