Pizza Hut — Restaurant in Fredericksburg

For many of us who grew up in the 70s and 80s, Pizza Hut holds many memories. It was a place where friends and family met without the distraction of cel phones and the rush to pickup a to-go order. Pizza, coin operated video games and the excitement of it all was an event, not just a place.I traveled an hour to Pizza Hut because the Fredericksburg location is one of only about 20 Pizza Hut Classics. Pizza Hut Classic is a location with the classic architecture restored with vintage styled interior design. Before entering the building, a sign explains the Pizza Hut Classic as a celebration to their heritage. The dining room brings back in focus many childhood memories. The staff was limited but very personable. It had been years since I had been to Pizza Hut but the food was as I remembered it. I enjoyed it a lot more than expected. As I write this, I’m surprised that I am hungry for the flavor beyond nostalgia. I had the meat lover’s pizza. The sausage was particularly good, as were the crisp and chewy crust and pizza sauce. I would probably ask for extra sauce if I make the trip again. Some of the details of the celebration of heritage prevent a great experience from being excellent. They may seem trivial. But it is nostalgia that moved me to go to Pizza Hut after not having been for at least 20 years. It is the details that prevent it from being as immersive as it could be. I would love to see a coin operated vintage game, a reproduction is fine. The classic plastic red cups were replaced by contemporary cups. The carpet was a very utilitarian choice. I don’t remember the original carpet but there are probably a lot of better choices. I would love to see a vintage style menu. In all fairness, they may have them. The only menu they had at this location had been stolen almost 2 months ago on Halloween night. I was disappointed to see TVs on the walls but it is a detail that I understand. Went to this location last week on a week night. Walked in (dining room was empty) went up to the counter to place a carry out order. Young man at register needed order repeated twice which wasnt a big deal. We ordered 1 medium pan pizza bell peppers all over half ham half pepperoni and 1 order of cheese bread sticks. He said it would be 15-20 minutes, (again not that big of deal). So we waited outside. When it was time my husband went in to fetch our order. Employee who waited on him didnt recall it. Then looked by phone number as most who order off the app give a cell number. My husband told him I walked in 15 minutes ago and placed the order. He still could not find it. Finally he got a female employee involved and low and behold she saw it on the counter and said "this must be it." When we got home the cheese sticks were over cooked, dry and over seasoned. The pizza had empty zones where there was no cheese. Both times it seemed the staff wasnt much concerned with service and the young man needed more training. It's like everyone was doing their own thing. Was the worst pizza hut experience I have ever had. I didnt ask to see a manager but to me the staff acted like one was not present. Well, truthfully I was feeling a bit down. And I thought that pizza might would make me feel better. Then I remembered I had pizza last night so I decided to order the chicken alfredo. After I gave my phone number and all my other pertinent information I asked if could I have mushrooms with the chicken alfredo. I love mushrooms in chicken alfredo.

However, after a full 5 minutes of the young man behind the cash register playing with the computer screen left to asked his supervisor a question. He sashayed back and and told I was informed that mushrooms could not be added to chicken alfredo.

I asked why not? Just reach your little hand over and grab a handful, dropping it in the alfredo mix.

Which they inform me that "the computer doesn't know how to do that!" The computer does not know how to add the mushroom charge to alfredo.

I do believe I have been charged extra for mushrooms every time I have ordered a pizza. So, I see no problem in adding extra charge for mushrooms if you order chicken alfredo. The supervisor from the kitchen saw I was beginning to be a bit disgruntled, yet I was still polite.
