I want to start this review with a few prefaces, them being: (1) I worked at Tommy’s for two years on and off because I was a student who went to school out of state but would always return to tommy’s to work (and retrain) every time I was home. (2) Daniela is a great manager, however this recent visit had put a bad taste in my mouth particularly with how she spoke to my invited guests. (3) I am writing this review in hopes of grabbing the attention of corporate because something needs to change.
In short, I have not worked at Tommy’s for over 6 months. I decided to visit because I wanted to see my old coworkers and have a familiar meal. My friend, who is currently working at tommy’s, had met up with us 5 minutes after being seated. Towards the end of our meal, and after I had asked for the check, our server told us that the manager Daniela was not willing to honor an employee/friends and family discount for the table. I was confused because i was not expecting a discount, but thought it was nice of our server to ask on behalf of us — given that one current employee and one ex-employee was seated at the table. Daniela shortly came over to the table and asked if everything was okay. I asked her if she was willing to honor a discount for our table given that I was an old employee and we had a current employee at the table and she responded by saying that she could discount our friends food but was not willing to lose her job over a 25% discount on the check. Daniela argued that my friend (the current employee) had joined the table late and therefore we were not eligible for the discount.
What really threw me off over the whole experience was what happened next — the reminder of why I left Tommy’s in the first place. My guest had spoke up and corrected Daniela that my friend had joined us at the start of our dining. Daniela then turned to her and said “i’m not going to argue with you” very rudely and went on to drag my friend away from the table to continue arguing about why she would not give us a discount. Overall, I don’t care about the discount. what i care more about is how this restaurant is rooted in greed and profit. they do not care about the customer/guest experience. they do not care if you worked there for 15 years , or if you are a regular/local, you are treated like any other joe shmoe. I dedicated holidays to this place and got no respect in return, during or after my time there. They are extremely strict with employees to the point where it is not an enjoyable work experience. That short interaction with Daniela had resurfaced all of the reasons why I refused to return to tommy’s. Their food is great but having been on the other side and having worked for the company, this is not somewhere I would want to spend my money again. especially after the treatment i received from Daniela having been a loyal employee for 2+ years.
yes Daniela could’ve chose to speak to my guests differently but the larger issue lies in the company values and putting a little more care towards the people who make things run smoothly on a daily basis rather than how much money the restaurant is making in a single night. change your values Tommy’s.
oh, I almost forgot. Before leaving I went back up to Daniela and said, “it was great seeing you tonight, I hope there isn’t any animosity” and she responds, “well I wish I could say the same to you.” ….like ….what did I do? how rude.
and just to add a little more credibility, I have been a server for over 6 years at 5 different restaurants. Tommy’s by far is the most difficult/militaristic and least family oriented of that bunch…for a...

My husband and I went there to pick up the food several times ever since the Covid started back in March. We go there to support local businesses but didn’t get much in return ; especially this place which is absurd.
Either ordering online or call in, we had to wait in the car for at least 45 minutes for the order to be brought out to us even though we went to pick up the food on time. Not once but 3 times including yesterday night 09/02/2020. Order# 2040010 for pick up time 6:45 pm.
Besides we had to wait that long for the food to come out, the order was mixed up with other customers or we didn’t get all of our food that we ordered. We ordered at the max 4 items each time but it seems so difficult for Tommy’s Tavern at Freehold to keep up.
Tonight we ordered Ahi Tuna Wraps, Ahi Tuna Salad, Shrimp Tempura and Chicken Penne Vodka Pizza. When the food was brought out to us, it seemed that they got it right this time. But Nope! when we got home, the shrimp tempura was missing !!!!
I am so upset and speechless as it happens to us for 3 times already. So I called to let them know that I didn’t get all of my order and I want my money back. I had to speak with 2 staffs for the credit before I can speak to the manager.
That is not cool! The first 2 staffs that I spoke with should have known better and be willing to credit the money to me without any hesitation.
We asked them not to charge us at all because it happened several times to us already and we wasted so much time waiting for the food but the manager refused to do so. She will only credit me back for the shrimp tempura.
Again folks, they don’t care how you feel when you didn’t get all of your food! Beware of this!!
And the back of the restaurant is packed by all drinkers. It seems to me that social distancing is not being...
Read moreI've been wanting to come here since it opened. The place is always packed and there is usually a line waiting to get in. My wife a I finally decided to go.
We got there early so we were seated right away. The hostess said something but between the mask and the ridiculously loud music, we have no idea what it was. We had the same issue when the server came over.
The food is very expensive. We were hoping that high price meant high quality. I ordered a hickory burger. $19!! That's a lot for a burger and fries. I expected it to be amazing. My wife got a chicken sandwich for $18.
The food came out fairly quickly and nice and hot. Their fries are the crunchy on the outside type, not the soggy, drippy style. But how was it? Eh. It was ok. It was all cooked very nicely and seasoned well but nothing about it stood out. There was nothing unique about the food, or the entire experience for that matter. Certainly not enough to justify a $19 burger.
I will say this tho: I got a Dogfishhead 60 minute IPA, which is $8 but $2 off on Thursday. So not everything was overpriced. It was good too.
In the end it was nothing special. It's just like any other place in the Freehold area. They loose a point for the loud music and a point for overpricing but get a half point back for their beer specials and a half point for our awesome server, Julio. He did a great job.
If you want to give it a shot, Tommy's isnt bad. But it's basically overpriced Moore's...
