Absolutely HORRIBLE staff at this restaurant. Aside from our server, Mia, who was our saving grace from the rude "greeting" our group received upon arrival, this was, without a doubt, the worst establishment I've ever set foot in. If you have a bigger group, DO NOT even attempt to go here, unless you want to be greeted with passive aggressive servers with terrible attitudes. I served tables for several years, so I understand how hectic it can be to have a larger group walk in, but we were from out of town, attending a softball tournament and needed a quick place to grab lunch. The sign in the entrance said "Please seat yourself," even though the place was absolutely jam packed, so we waited patiently for a couple tables to open up (mind you, we weren't even remotely concerned with our group sitting all together; we understood how busy it was for the lunch rush) but, to our luck, 2 bigger tables opened up near each other, so we claimed them, as we were just following the directions of the sign to "seat ourselves." I asked the servers, who were clearing the tables, if it was ok for us to sit down, because I could see how busy they were. I was told it was "fine," but next time, we needed to call ahead. Well, we checked the website beforehand to see if that was something we needed to do and it wasn't specified, so we figured a sports bar of that capacity could handle a few families just trying to kill time between softball games. As we were trying to get settled, there were 3 servers and the bartender who began complaining about our arrival to each other, within ear shot of all us. To say it was uncomfortable is an understatement. The entirety of our visit was met with dirty glances and obvious conversations about us, that the servers weren't even attempting to mask. And, this didn't just happen to us. Towards the end of our visit, a few families from another softball organization came in and was "greeted" with the same exact experience we were given. I don't expect a whole heck of a lot when I go out to eat, as I have been that person serving and I have a great deal of empathy and understanding of the position and the industry. There was zero excuse for the treatment we received from the staff who didn't attend to us. Again, I want to praise our actual server, Mia, for being patient and kind to us; however, her service will simply not be enough to ever convince me or the other people from our party to set foot in...
Read moreI like the food at this place. It is as good as any other dine in place around here. The hyvee half off coupons that are usable certain days I just fold back in and order an appetizer. Tasty food.good value. Have eaten here for years. Like the late night snacks too. Yummmyyyy. Beer is cold. Wait staff polite and prompt. Special orders not a fuss. Excellent place to watch a variety of video stuff. The chairs are dated and could use new modern ones. They have been the same ones for years. Just like many places that keep using the same furniture forever. Otherwise it is a great selection. One item to note is you used yo get three pieces of fish now you only get two and the price is still over the value bite per price. Portions of all other food is good. The home made soup is excellent. The chili is not consistent made but more magical whimsical let's see if we can make some chili. Ine time its great another time it's too hot. Sometimes it's got too much pour components into the cooker and call it chili. I like the chili so I always ask for a sample to see what kind of goldilox food I am going to get today. Ohh one last item. Those silly rolls they have. Pfftt... wirthlessy. They taste like old pie crust. The foods great though. I did say that a bunch. Ok that's the as my son calls it. Fat boy needs more...
Read moreDisappointed. I've been coming here for the better part of 30 years. The food has recently been disappointing. We went last night, it was about 8:30pm and they were out of Prime Rib, which is ok because it was our fault for being there later. The only other steak on the menu was a New York Strip. It was cut very thin and overcooked, when I asked for medium rare, it came out closer to medium well. There was no seasoning or flavor, my baked potato tasted like it had been in the warmer the entire day. The shrimp add on was the best part of that meal and they came out luke warm. We ordered the Meatball Marinara for an appetizer, the meatballs had the consistency of sponges as if they had been in the warmer too long.
Our server, Kelsey, was the best part of our experience. Which is sad to say because Big Red Keno has rarely disappointed me. There has been declining consistency of quality. I hope they can get a cook in there that cares about consistency...
